The influence of the “hot”-dimer adsorption mechanism on the kinetics of a monomer-dimer surface reaction

1993

“Hot” dimers are molecules which after adsorption dissociate and each of the remaining “hot” monomers fly apart up to a maximum distance R from the original adsorption site. The influence of the “hot”-dimer adsorption mechanism on relevant aspects of the bimolecular catalyzed reaction of the type A − (1/2)B2(“hot”) → AB is studied by means of the Monte-Carlo simulation technique. The temporal evolution of both the reactant's coverages as well as the rate of AB-production is evaluated and discussed. Due to the enhanced probability of “hot” species for encounters with other adsorbed particles, the rate of AB-production becomes faster when increasing R. This behavior may be relevant in the dyn…

Luminescence of localized states in silicon dioxide glass. A short review

2011

Abstract The target is the description of the properties of localized states in silica glass, which relate to aspects of short-to-intermediate-range order. It has been observed that laser light interaction with localized states of silica glass leads to the creation of luminescence centers. Created luminescence centers, excited with laser light, provide intra-center luminescence of oxygen deficient centers (ODC) comprising a blue band at 2.7 eV and a UV band at 4.4 eV. Structurally, these ODCs are understood to comprise twofold-coordinated silicons that are commonly part of some larger local structure, and their luminescence bands can be suppressed by reaction with chlorine or hydrogen. Besi…

The Marine Sponge-Derived Inorganic Polymers, Biosilica and Polyphosphate, as Morphogenetically Active Matrices/Scaffolds for the Differentiation of …

2014

The two marine inorganic polymers, biosilica (BS), enzymatically synthesized from ortho-silicate, and polyphosphate (polyP), a likewise enzymatically synthesized polymer consisting of 10 to >100 phosphate residues linked by high-energy phosphoanhydride bonds, have previously been shown to display a morphogenetic effect on osteoblasts. In the present study, the effect of these polymers on the differential differentiation of human multipotent stromal cells (hMSC), mesenchymal stem cells, that had been encapsulated into beads of the biocompatible plant polymer alginate, was studied. The differentiation of the hMSCs in the alginate beads was directed either to the osteogenic cell lineage by …

An X-ray powder diffraction study of lanthanum–strontium ferromanganites

2001

Abstract Various lanthanum–strontium ferromanganites (La 1− x Sr x )(Mn 1− y Fe y )O 3± δ (LSMF) with x =0.2, 0.5 and 0.7 and y =0.2, 0.5 and 0.8 were prepared by a glycine–nitrate combustion route and conditioned into two different oxygenation states which are likely to be encountered in cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). Crystal symmetries for both the low and the fully oxygenated states were determined by X-ray diffractometry. Most perovskite compositions crystallized in either cubic or rhombohedral symmetry with the exception of La 0.5 Sr 0.5 Mn 0.2 Fe 0.8 O 3± δ , where a transition from rhombohedral to cubic occurred in going from the full to the low oxygenation stat…

Study of low-pressure suspension plasma spray nanostructured coating : structural characteristics and application in solid oxide fuel cell

2021

Suspension plasma spraying (SPS) has attracted more and more attention in terms of the preparation of nanostructured / sub-microstructured ceramic coatings. However, conventional SPS techniques are conducted under atmospheric pressure, which inevitably causes some disadvantages. Recently, a novel suspension spraying technology – low-pressure suspension plasma spraying (LPSPS) – was proposed, in which the sus-pension spraying process is conducted under low environmental pressure. Benefit from the significant impact of low pressure on the coating deposition, LPSPS is expected to improve the disadvantage of SPS as well as to obtain distinct coating structures not achievable in conventional SPS…

Bleaching in vital teeth : combined treatment vs in-office treatment

2019

Background The aim of this study was to verify that there will be greater whitening in teeth treated with combined bleaching than in those that have been applied a clinical one and to evaluate the efficiency of the clinical treatment, those cases in which it is not able, or it is not wanted, to carry out the home phase. Material and Methods They were used 66 extracted anterior human teeth, which were divided into two study groups. On the one hand, the clinical group (ClG) consisted of 33 teeth, which were treated with a clinical guideline using 37.5% hydrogen peroxide in a single session of 4 applications of 8 minutes. On the other hand, the combinate group (CoG) consisted of 33 teeth, whic…

Rapid chemical evolution of tropospheric volcanic emissions from Redoubt Volcano, Alaska, based on observations of ozone and halogen-containing gases

2013

Abstract We report results from an observational and modeling study of reactive chemistry in the tropospheric plume emitted by Redoubt Volcano, Alaska. Our measurements include the first observations of Br and I degassing from an Alaskan volcano, the first study of O 3 evolution in a volcanic plume, as well as the first detection of BrO in the plume of a passively degassing Alaskan volcano. This study also represents the first detailed spatially-resolved comparison of measured and modeled O 3 depletion in a volcanic plume. The composition of the plume was measured on June 20, 2010 using base-treated filter packs (for F, Cl, Br, I, and S) at the crater rim and by an instrumented fixed-wing a…

ERYTHROPOIETIN FOR THE TREATMENT OF SUBARACHNOID HEMORRAGE: A FEASIBLE INGREDIENT FOR A SUCCESS MEDICAL RECIPE

2015

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) following aneurysm bleeding accounts for 6% to 8% of all cerebrovascular accidents. Although an aneurysm can be effectively managed by surgery or endovascular therapy, delayed cerebral ischemia is diagnosed in a high percentage of patients resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. Cerebral vasospasm occurs in more than half of all patients after aneurysm rupture and is recognized as the leading cause of delayed cerebral ischemia after SAH. Hemodynamic strategies and endovascular procedures may be considered for the treatment of cerebral vasospasm. In recent years, the mechanisms contributing to the development of vasospasm, abnormal reactivity of cerebr…

Influence of composition(CO2 and Sugar) on aroma release and perception of mint-flavored carbonated beverages

2009

The aim of the present work was to identify and quantify physical mechanisms responsible for in-nose aroma release during the consumption of mint-flavored carbonated beverages in order to better understand how they are perceived. The effect of two composition factors (sugar and CO(2)) was investigated on both the sensory and physicochemical properties of drinks by studying in vitro and in vivo aroma release. Sensory results revealed that the presence of CO(2) increased aroma perception regardless of the sugar content. In agreement with volatility parameters, in vivo measurements showed that carbonated drinks released a greater quantity of aroma compounds in the nose space than non-carbonate…
