Mechanical properties of aluminum, zirconium, hafnium and tantalum oxides and their nanolaminates grown by atomic layer deposition

ABSTRACT The mechanical properties of two different metal oxide nanolaminates comprised of Ta 2 O 5 and Al 2 O 3 , HfO 2 or ZrO 2 , grown on soda–lime glass substrate by atomic layer deposition, were investigated. Ta 2 O 5 and Al 2 O 3 layers were amorphous, whereas ZrO 2 and HfO 2 possessed crystalline structure. Thickness of single oxide layers was varied between 2.5 and 15 nm. The total thickness of the laminate structures was in the range of 160–170 nm. The hardness values of single layer oxides on glass ranged from 6.7 GPa (Ta 2 O 5 ) to 9.5 GPa (Al 2 O 3 ). Structural Infrared Analysis of Ultra Nanosized Crystals of Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia

This paper describes the characterization of ultra nanosized crystals as monoclinic, tetragonal, cubic or mixed phases of ZrO2. Nanopowders are produced using the microwave method, which allows control of the ratio of zirconium to yttrium to yield various crystallographic structures. The synthesized ultra nanosized particles have very broad XRD peaks. In particular, the similarity of the XRD peaks of tetragonal and cubic nanocrystals makes it difficult to distinguish between these two crystals. Abstract Crystalline ZrO2 nanoparticles were prepared from zirconium isopropoxide by slow hydrolysis and subsequent hydrothermal treatment of solutions containing various amounts of sodium hydroxide at 180 °C. Whereas moderately basic solutions lead to the formation of nanoparticles of monoclinic ZrO2 with plate-like morphology, and nanoparticles of the cubic ZrO2 high-temperature polymorph with diameters of approx. 5 nm were obtained from strongly basic solutions. Kinetic modelling of the Zymomonas mobilis Entner-Doudoroff pathway: insights into control and functionality.

Zymomonas mobilis, an ethanol-producing bacterium, possesses the Entner-Doudoroff (E-D) pathway, pyruvate decarboxylase and two alcohol dehydrogenase isoenzymes for the fermentative production of ethanol and carbon dioxide from glucose. Using available kinetic parameters, we have developed a kinetic model that incorporates the enzymic reactions of the E-D pathway, both alcohol dehydrogenases, transport reactions and reactions related to ATP metabolism. On the high resolution spectroscopy and intramolecular potential function of SO2

Abstract Two weak stretching bands, ν 1  + 3 ν 3 and 3 ν 1  +  ν 3 , of the sulfur dioxide molecule have been recorded at high resolution and analyzed for the first time with using a Fourier transform Bruker IFS-120 HR interferometer. About 1000 transitions with J max .  = 51, K a max . = 16 , and 900 transitions with J max .  = 53, K a max . = 16 have been assigned to the bands ν 1  + 3 ν 3 and 3 ν 1  +  ν 3 , respectively. Analysis of the recorded spectra was made using the model of isolated vibrational states. Analysis of highly excited 'hot' bands in the SO2 molecule: ν2 + 3ν3 - ν2 and 2ν1 + ν2 + ν3 - ν2

International audience; We set up a variational procedure of assignments of transitions and we applied it to the analysis very weak 'hot' bands, v(2) + 3v(3) - v(2) and 2v(1) + v(2) + v(3) - v(2), of the SO2 molecule. As the first step of the study, the 'cold' bands, 3v(3) and 2v(1) + v(3), are re-analysed and transitions belonging to those bands are assigned up to the values of quantum numbers J(max.) = 60, K-a(max.) = 19, and J(max.) = 69, K-a(max.) = 20 for the bands 3v(3) and 2v(1) + v(3), respectively. This has lead investigators to reconsider what can be awaited from this class of drugs. The 2 COX isoenzymes share structural and enzymatic similarities, but are specifically regulated at the molecular level and may be distinguished apart in their functions, although some physiological overlap between them does occur. Portlandite solubility and Ca 2+ activity in presence of gluconate and hexitols

The current paper investigates the impact of gluconate, D-sorbitol, D-mannitol and D-galactitol on calcium speciation at high pH values by i) solubility measurements of portlandite (Ca(OH)2) and ii) potentiometric titration measurements of calcium salt solutions. Thermodynamic modeling was used to fit the chemical activities of Ca2+ and OH- ions and thus to determine the strength and kind of the different Ca-organic-hydroxide complexes.
