Photoluminescent Detection of Human T-Lymphoblastic Cells by ZnO Nanorods.
2020
The precise detection of cancer cells currently remains a global challenge. One-dimensional (1D) semiconductor nanostructures (e.g., ZnO nanorods) have attracted attention due to their potential use in cancer biosensors. In the current study, it was demonstrated that the possibility of a photoluminescent detection of human leukemic T-cells by using a zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO NRs) platform. Monoclonal antibodies (MABs) anti-CD5 against a cluster of differentiation (CD) proteins on the pathologic cell surface have been used as a bioselective layer on the ZnO surface. The optimal concentration of the protein anti-CD5 to form an effective bioselective layer on the ZnO NRs surface was selected. …
Room temperature synthesis of lanthanum phosphates with controlled nanotexture as host for Ln(III) through the Epoxide Route
2022
AbstractHerein, the Epoxide Route, a one-pot room temperature alkalinization method based on the reaction between a nucleophile and an epoxide, has been employed to synthesize LaPO4 in the form of a Rhabdophane phase. The intrinsic features of this synthetic approach allow the reaction to be followed by pH monitoring, making possible the identification of the different precipitation steps involved in the formation of the solid. Once demonstrated the effectiveness of this chemical methodology, the size and shape of the LaPO4 particles were controlled by varying the identity and proportion of the organic co-solvents employed to perform the reaction. By these means, crystalline particles with …

Design and Characterization of Effective Ag, Pt and AgPt Nanoparticles to H₂O₂ Electrosensing from Scrapped Printed Electrodes.
2019
The use of disposable screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) has extraordinarily grown in the last years. In this paper, conductive inks from scrapped SPEs were removed by acid leaching, providing high value feedstocks suitable for the electrochemical deposition of Ag, Pt and Ag core-Pt shell-like bimetallic (AgPt) nanoparticles, onto screen-printed carbon electrodes (ML@SPCEs, M = Ag, Pt or AgPt, L = metal nanoparticles from leaching solutions). ML@SPCEs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results were compared to those obtained when metal nanoparticles were synthesised using standard solutions of metal salts (MS@…
Experimental and Theoretical Investigations of Structural Trends for Selenium(IV) Imides and Oxides: X-ray Structure of Se3(NAd)2
2004
The thermal decomposition of Se(NAd)2 (Ad = 1-adamantyl) in THF was monitored by 77Se NMR and shown to give the novel cyclic selenium imide Se3(NAd)2 as one of the products. An X-ray structural determination showed that Se3(NAd)2 is a puckered five-membered ring with d(Se−Se) = 2.404(1) Å and |d(Se−N)| = 1.873(4) Å. On the basis of 77Se NMR data, other decomposition products include the six-membered ring Se3(NAd)3, and the four-membered rings AdNSe(μ-NAd)2SeO and OSe(μ-NAd)2SeO. The energies for the cyclodimerization of E(NR)2 and RNEO (E = S, Se; R = H, Me, tBu, SiMe3), and the cycloaddition reactions of RNSeO with E(NR)2, RNSO2 with Se(NR)2, and S(NR)2 with Se(NR)2 have been calculated at…
Inhibition of denitrification and N2O emission by urine-derived benzoic and hippuric acid
2006
Abstract Hippuric acid (HA) in cattle urine acts as a natural inhibitor of soil N2O emissions. As HA concentration varies with diet, we determined critical HA levels. We also tested the hypothesis that the inhibition occurs because the HA breakdown product benzoic acid (BA) inhibits denitrification rates. During a 64-day incubation, we quantified emissions from artificial urine varying in HA, BA and glycine (Gly) concentrations, added to a sandy pasture soil. Increasing HA concentration from 0.4 to 5.6 mmol kg−1 soil significantly decreased the average N2O flux by 54%. At 3.9 mmol kg−1 soil, denitrification levels were 50% reduced for BA as compared to Gly. We conclude that HA inhibits both…
Silica as a green exfoliant agent for graphene oxidepolymer nanocomposites prepared in the melt
2017
For the first time, solid-state exfoliant agents were used to hinder the re-aggregation of graphene oxide (GO) during melt processing with polyamide 6 (PA6). This technique drastically reduces the time and difficulty related to solvent (removal, disposal, etc.), and avoids water consumption, since in this case 150 mL of water under mild operative conditions are enough to prepare the amount of GOS necessary for the realization of almost 100 grams of PA6- GOS nanocomposites with outstanding ultimate properties.
Effect of the Si doping on the properties of AZO/SiC/Si heterojunctions grown by low temperature pulsed laser deposition
2020
Abstract The structural and photoelectrical properties of Al-doped ZnO (AZO)/SiC/p-Si and AZO/SiC/n-Si heterojunctions, fabricated at low temperature by pulsed laser deposition, were investigated by means of a number of techniques. Raman analysis indicates that SiC layers have the cubic 3C-SiC phase, whilst X-ray diffraction measurements show that AZO films exhibit a hexagonal wurtzite structure, highly textured along the c-axis, with average crystallites size of 35.1 nm and lattice parameter c of 0.518 nm. The homogeneous and dense surface morphology observed by scanning electron microscopy was confirmed by atomic force microscopy images. Moreover, UV–Vis-NIR spectra indicated a high trans…
Particle radiation in microelectronics
2012
The unavoidable presence of particle radiation in space and on the ground combined with constantly evolving technology necessitates a deep understanding of the basic mechanisms underlying radiation effects in materials and electronic devices. This thesis provides an overview of the different radiation environments, with a review of the interaction mechanisms between energetic particles and matter. In this work a new semi-empirical model for estimating the electronic stopping force of solids for heavy ions is introduced. Radiation effects occurring in microelectronics due to particle radiation are also discussed with a brief introduction to radiation hardness assurance (RHA) testing of elect…
Pulicaria glutinosa Extract: A Toolbox to Synthesize Highly Reduced Graphene Oxide-Silver Nanocomposites
2015
A green, one-step approach for the preparation of graphene/Ag nanocomposites (PE-HRG-Ag) via simultaneous reduction of both graphene oxide (GRO) and silver ions using Pulicaria glutinosa plant extract (PE) as reducing agent is reported. The plant extract functionalizes the surfaces of highly reduced graphene oxide (HRG) which helps in conjugating the Ag NPs to HRG. Increasing amounts of Ag precursor enhanced the density of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) on HRG. The preparation of PE-HRG-Ag nanocomposite is monitored by using ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). The as-prepared PE-HRG-Ag nanocomposities display excellent surfac…
