The energy barrier to magnetisation relaxation in single-molecule magnets (SMMs) proffers potential technological applications in high-density information storage and quantum computation. Leading candidates amongst complexes of 3d metals ions are the hexametallic family of complexes of formula [Mn6O2(R-sao)6(X)2(solvent)y] (saoH2=salicylaldoxime; X=mono-anion; y=4–6; R=H, Me, Et, and Ph). The recent synthesis of cationic [Mn6][ClO4]2 family members, in which the coordinating X ions were replaced with non-coordinating anions, opened the gateway to constructing families of novel [Mn6] salts in which the identity and nature of the charge balancing anions could be employed to alter the physical…

Synthesis, crystal structure, DFT and biological activity of E-pyrene-1-carbaldehyde oxime and E-2-naphthaldehyde oxime

2020

Abstract The aldoximes E-pyrene-1-carbaldehyde oxime 1 and E-2-naphthaldehyde oxime 2 were synthesized, in ca. 90% yield, by treatment of pyrene-1-carbaldehyde or 2-naphthaldehyde, respectively, with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and sodium carbonate in MeOH. Compounds 1 and 2 were characterized by IR, 1H and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopies, elemental analyses and single crystal X-ray diffraction (in the case of 1). The studied system (compound 1) showed significant amounts of H⋯H (44.4%), C⋯H (25.4%) and C⋯C (13.3%) intermolecular interactions in addition to the short N⋯H (5.9%) and O⋯H (6.2%) intermolecular interactions. These interactions affect the molecular packing of the studied system in th…

A two-dimensional coordination polymer constructed from binuclear copper(II) metalloligands and manganese(II) ions: Synthesis, crystal structure and …

2016

Abstract The self-assembly process between the binuclear [Cu2(HL)(L)]− complex and the manganese(II) ion affords a two-dimensional coordination polymer of formula [Mn{Cu2(HL)(L)}2(H2O)2]n (1) (H3L = 3-hydroxyiminomethylsalicylic acid) where parallel ladder-like motifs of defective double cubanes of bis(phenoxo)dicopper(II) units as rods and anti-syn carboxylato bridges as rungs act as ligands towards tetraaqua-manganese(II) entities through the deprotonated oxime groups. The topology of 1 is compared with the one of another compound, [Mn{Cu2(HL)(L)}2(H2O)4]·4H2O·2DMF (1′) which was obtained in different conditions by Okawa et al. (J. Chem. Soc., Dalton Trans. (2001) 3119). Magnetic suscepti…

Regulation of kynurenine biosynthesis during influenza virus infection.

2017

Influenza A viruses (IAVs) remain serious threats to public health because of the shortage of effective means of control. Developing more effective virus control modalities requires better understanding of virus–host interactions. It has previously been shown that IAV induces the production of kynurenine, which suppresses T-cell responses, enhances pain hypersensitivity and disturbs behaviour in infected animals. However, the regulation of kynurenine biosynthesis during IAV infection remains elusive. Here we showed that IAV infection induced expression of interferons (IFNs), which upregulated production of indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase (IDO1), which catalysed the kynurenine biosynthesis. Furt…

Clinical outcome of concomitant vs interrupted BRAF inhibitor therapy during radiotherapy in melanoma patients

2018

Background: Concomitant radiation with BRAF inhibitor (BRAFi) therapy may increase radiation-induced side effects but also potentially improve tumour control in melanoma patients. Methods: A total of 155 patients with BRAF-mutated melanoma from 17 European skin cancer centres were retrospectively analysed. Out of these, 87 patients received concomitant radiotherapy and BRAFi (59 vemurafenib, 28 dabrafenib), while in 68 patients BRAFi therapy was interrupted during radiation (51 vemurafenib, 17 dabrafenib). Overall survival was calculated from the first radiation (OSRT) and from start of BRAFi therapy (OSBRAFi). Results: The median duration of BRAFi treatment interruption prior to radiothera…

Olesoxime improves cerebral mitochondrial dysfunction and enhances Aβ levels in preclinical models of Alzheimer's disease.

2019

Abstract Background Approved drugs for Alzheimer's disease (AD) only have a symptomatic effects and do not intervene causally in the course of the disease. Olesoxime (TRO19622) has been tested in AD disease models characterized by improved amyloid precursor protein processing (AβPP) and mitochondrial dysfunction. Methods Three months old Thy-1-AβPPSL (tg) and wild type mice (wt) received TRO19622 (100 mg/kg b.w.) in supplemented food pellets for 15 weeks (tg TRO19622). Mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels were determined in dissociated brain cells (DBC). Respiration was analyzed in mitochondria isolated from brain tissue. Citrate synthase (CS) activ…

Controlled synthesis of poly(acetone oxime acrylate) as a new reactive polymer: Stimuli-responsive reactive copolymers

2007

Abstract Acetone oxime acrylate has been synthesized as a new active ester monomer. Free radical polymerization yielded a reactive polymer soluble in various organic solvents, such as chloroform, dioxane, DMSO, acetone, methanol, dichloromethane, DMF, and ethanol. Controlled radical polymerization of acetone oxime acrylate was successfully conducted using the RAFT, NMP and Iniferter method. Partly polymer analogous reaction with N-isopropylamine resulted in the reactive copolymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acetone oxime acrylate), which featured a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of 61 °C in water. Further, the reactivity of the copolymer was exemplary proven by complete reacti…

Evaluation of the pulse wave arrival time as a marker for blood pressure changes in critically ill infants and children

1995

Objective. Pulse arrival time (PAT), which is the interval between the R wave of the electrocardiogram (ECG) and the arrival of the pulse wave peripherally, has been reported to be suitable for use as an indirect measure of blood pressure change. The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in critically ill infants and children, the degree to which 1/PAT covaries with systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressure, as well as heart rate.Methods. A laboratory device was used to calculate PAT in real time from the ECG and the plethysmographic curve of pulse oximetry used for routine monitoring. Calculated PAT and corresponding blood pressures and heart rate were stored on hard disk. A total of 1…

RCBF-quantification with 99mTc-HMPAO-SPECT: theory and first results.

1989

The activity concentrations of 99mTc-HMPAO in brain after intravenous injection were evaluated in 25 patients using SPECT. With additional first pass studies of heart and brain with the short lived isotope 195mAu, the cardiac output and the mean cerebral transit times of the patients were measured a short time before the HMPAO injection. The time dependence of 99mTc-HMPAO activity in the brain was registered during the first 5 min after injection over both hemispheres. Using a simplified three compartment model it was possible to calculate the mean retention fraction of HMPAO in brain from the time activity curves. It could be shown that the regional cerebral blood flow in ml/min per 100 g …
