Harnack estimates for degenerate parabolic equations modeled on the subelliptic $p-$Laplacian

Abstract We establish a Harnack inequality for a class of quasi-linear PDE modeled on the prototype ∂ t u = − ∑ i = 1 m X i ⁎ ( | X u | p − 2 X i u ) where p ⩾ 2 , X = ( X 1 , … , X m ) is a system of Lipschitz vector fields defined on a smooth manifold M endowed with a Borel measure μ, and X i ⁎ denotes the adjoint of X i with respect to μ. Our estimates are derived assuming that (i) the control distance d generated by X induces the same topology on M ; (ii) a doubling condition for the μ-measure of d-metric balls; and (iii) the validity of a Poincare inequality involving X and μ. Nonlinear Robin problems with unilateral constraints and dependence on the gradient

We consider a nonlinear Robin problem driven by the p-Laplacian, with unilateral constraints and a reaction term depending also on the gradient (convection term). Using a topological approach based on fixed point theory (the Leray-Schauder alternative principle) and approximating the original problem using the Moreau-Yosida approximations of the subdifferential term, we prove the existence of a smooth solution.

Three solutions for a mixed boundary value problem involving the one-dimensional p-Laplacian

AbstractThis paper deals with two mixed nonlinear boundary value problems depending on a parameter λ. For each of them we prove the existence of at least three generalized solutions when λ lies in an exactly determined open interval. Usefulness of this information on the interval is then emphasized by means of some consequences. Our main tool is a very recent three critical points theorem stated in [Topol. Methods Nonlinear Anal. 22 (2003) 93–104].

On a mixed boundary value problem involving the p-Laplacian

In this paper we prove the existence of infinitely many solutions for a mixed boundary value problem involving the one dimensional p-Laplacian. A result on the existence of three solutions is also established. The approach is based on multiple critical points theorems.

Local and nonlocal weighted pLaplacian evolution equations with Neumann boundary conditions

In this paper we study existence and uniqueness of solutions to the local diffusion equation with Neumann boundary conditions and a bounded nonhomogeneous diffusion coefficient g ≥ 0, {ut = div (g|∇u|p-2∇u) in ]0; T[×Ωg|∇u|p-2u·n = 0 on ]0; T[×∂Ω; for 1 ≤ p < ∞. We show that a nonlocal counterpart of this diffusion problem is ut(t; x)= ∫ω J(x-y)g(x+y/2)|u(t; y)-u(t; x)| p-2 (u(t; y)-u(t; x)) dy in ]0; T[× Ω,where the diffusion coefficient has been reinterpreted by means of the values of g at the point x+y/2 in the integral operator. The fact that g ≥ 0 is allowed to vanish in a set of positive measure involves subtle difficulties, specially in the case p = 1.

A nonlocal p-Laplacian evolution equation with Neumann boundary conditions

In this paper we study the nonlocal p-Laplacian type diffusion equation,ut (t, x) = under(∫, Ω) J (x - y) | u (t, y) - u (t, x) |p - 2 (u (t, y) - u (t, x)) d y . If p &gt; 1, this is the nonlocal analogous problem to the well-known local p-Laplacian evolution equation ut = div (| ∇ u |p - 2 ∇ u) with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. We prove existence and uniqueness of a strong solution, and if the kernel J is rescaled in an appropriate way, we show that the solutions to the corresponding nonlocal problems converge strongly in L∞ (0, T ; Lp (Ω)) to the solution of the p-Laplacian with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. AbstractBoundary-value problems for second-order operator differential equations with two boundary-value conditions are studied for the case where the companion operator is similar to a block-diagonal operator. This case is strictly more general than the one treated in an earlier paper, and it provides explicit closed-form solutions of boundary-value problem in terms of data without increasing the dimension of the problem.

An elliptic equation on n-dimensional manifolds

We consider an elliptic equation driven by a p-Laplacian-like operator, on an n-dimensional Riemannian manifold. The growth condition on the right-hand side of the equation depends on the geometry of the manifold. We produce a nontrivial solution by using a Palais–Smale compactness condition and a mountain pass geometry.
