Projections from the posterolateral olfactory amygdala to the ventral striatum: neural basis for reinforcing properties of chemical stimuli
2007
Abstract Background Vertebrates sense chemical stimuli through the olfactory receptor neurons whose axons project to the main olfactory bulb. The main projections of the olfactory bulb are directed to the olfactory cortex and olfactory amygdala (the anterior and posterolateral cortical amygdalae). The posterolateral cortical amygdaloid nucleus mainly projects to other amygdaloid nuclei; other seemingly minor outputs are directed to the ventral striatum, in particular to the olfactory tubercle and the islands of Calleja. Results Although the olfactory projections have been previously described in the literature, injection of dextran-amines into the rat main olfactory bulb was performed with …
Abstract PD3-6: ConvertHER: Evolution of genomic alterations from primary to metastatic breast cancer
2015
Abstract Background: Changes in breast cancer receptor status over disease progression and treatment have been described to a point that could alter response to therapy. There is growing interest in delivering biomarker/genomically-based targeted therapies. We aimed to determine the concordance of genomic alterations between primary (P) and metastatic (M) breast cancer in a prospective collection study. Methods: Targeted capture and next-generation sequencing was performed on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples, profiling 202 cancer relevant genes in 61 pairs (primary and corresponding recurrence/metastasis). Tumors were classified at baseline as [hormone receptor (HR)+/HER2-, H…
Abstract 4330: Immune checkpoint expression score is an independent prognostic biomarker in resectable non-small cell lung cancer
2015
Abstract BACKGROUND Immune checkpoints blockade, which activate antitumor immunity, has demonstrated promising clinical results in NSCLC. In this study we have investigated the prognostic role of immune checkpoint expression markers and its correlation with immune-cells infiltration and clinico-pathological characteristics in a cohort of resectable NSCLC patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS RNA was isolated from fresh-frozen lung specimens (tumor and normal lung) (n = 178). RTqPCR was performed to analyze the expression of CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1 by the use of hydrolysis probes. Relative gene expression was assessed by Pfaffl formula and normalized by the use of CDKN1B, GUS and ACTB as endogenous …
Association of immune-regulatory (FoxP3+)-T-cell tumor infiltration status with benefit from chemoimmunotherapy with gemcitabine, oxaliplatin, 5-FU/F…
2009
3045 Background: GOLFIG is a novel chemoimmunotherapy regimen, combining gemcitabine, oxaliplatin, 5-FU/FA with immunoadjuvant GM-CSF and aldesleukine, which resulted safe and very active in colon cancer patients. Antitumor activity and immunity feedback to the treatment resulted strictly correlated. The best outcome was observed in patients showing autoimmunity signs, rise in central-memory-T cells, and decline in peripheral and tumor infiltrating immuno-regulatory T (Treg) cells. On these bases, we investigated a possible correlation between Treg tumor infiltration at diagnosis and clinical outcome of these patients. Methods: An immunohistochemistry study was carried out to quantify the …
CASP8 SNP D302H (rs1045485) is associated with worse survival in MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma patients
2014
Background Neuroblastoma is a pediatric cancer that exhibits a wide clinical spectrum ranging from spontaneous regression in low-risk patients to fatal disease in high-risk patients. The identification of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may help explain the heterogeneity of neuroblastoma and assist in identifying patients at higher risk for poor survival. SNPs in the TP53 pathway are of special importance, as several studies have reported associations between TP53 pathway SNPs and cancer. Of note, less than 2% of neuroblastoma tumors have a TP53 mutation at diagnosis. Patients and Methods We selected 21 of the most frequently studied SNPs in the TP53 pathway and evaluated their assoc…
Prognostic Impact of Immune Microenvironment Markers in Tumor and Stroma in Resectable Nsclc
2014
ABSTRACT Aim: Tumor-infiltrating immune cells have been proved to play an important role in tumor progression. In this study we have analyzed the expression of 11 immune related genes in both tumor and stroma samples of resectable NSCLC patients. Methods: In this retrospective study FFPE samples from 117 early-stage NSCLC patients of primary tumor tissue were used. The most representative areas of tumor and tumor stroma of each sample were carefully micro-dissected. RT-PCR using hydrolysis probes (TaqMan, Applied Biosystems) was performed to assess the expression of Treg markers such as: CD127, CD25, FOXP3, CTLA-4, IL-10, TGFB-1, LAG-3, GITR and TNFA as well as CD4 and CD8. Relative gene ex…
EP912 Characterization of the tumour microenvironment in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC): prognostic value of the lymphocytic infiltration p…
2019
Introduction/Background Lymphocytic infiltration areas (immunoreactive), frequently found in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC), are associated with a better prognosis and increased survival. The cross-talk between tumour cells and lymphocytes conditions the capacity of the immune system (IS) to cope with the tumour in the so-called immune-checkpoints. Therefore, assessing IS-related genes and infiltration patters might provide valuable prognostic biomarkers. Methodology This retrospective study includes 57 samples from patients with HGSOC who underwent cytoreductive surgery at Hospital General (Valencia). Clinical variables, the features of the lymphocytic infiltration (pattern, loca…
Improved performance in flexible organic solar cells by using copolymeric phase-separation modulators
2018
One of the main problems related to the low performance of the organic solar cells (OSCs), concerns the low mobility of the materials constituting the heterojunction. Indeed, the poor charge transport in the active layer is the principal cause of a competition between separation and recombination of the photogenerated carriers. In this regard, a major obstacle to enhance OSCs efficiency is developing strategies to optimize the exciton dissociation and, consequently, the charge collection at the electrodes. Donor and acceptor systems must be well mixed on the length scale of 5 – 20 nm (exciton diffusion length) to meet the criteria for efficient exciton dissociation. In addition, the network…
Rosa Cetro et Lorella Sini (éds), 2021. Fake news, rumeurs, intox…
