Artikkelissa tarkastellaan luku- ja kirjoitustaitokampanjoita käsittelevän kansainvälisen dokumenttiaineiston perusteella sitä, millaisia merkityksiä sisältyy lukuja kirjoitustaidottomuuden määrittelyyn yhteiskunnalliseksi ongelmaksi, ja asetetaan kyseenalaiseksi tässä aineistossa ilmenevä yleismaailmallinen ideologia. Lisäksi pohditaan luku- ja kirjoitustaidon mahdollisista emansipatorista merkitystä kehitysmaiden oloissa.

El artículo analiza unos fragmentos de un corpus de diez entrevistas médicas, grabadas entre abril y julio de 2009 en el Instituto Valenciano de Infertilidad de Barcelona, caracterizadas por la presencia de un médico de habla española, uno o dos pacientes italianos y una intérprete. Se examina cómo cambia la alineación verbal de esta última, dependiendo de las diferentes situaciones comunicativas que tiene que afrontar. AbstractAmphiregulin (AR) involvement in liver fibrogenesis and hepatic stellate cells (HSC) regulation is under study. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its more severe form non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) may progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular cancer (HCC). Our aim was to investigate ex vivo the effect of AR on human primary HSC (hHSC) and verify in vivo the relevance of AR in NAFLD fibrogenesis. hHSC isolated from healthy liver segments were analyzed for expression of AR and its activator, TNF-α converting enzyme (TACE). Severe Tremor After Cotrimoxazole-Induced Elevation of Venlafaxine Serum Concentrations in a Patient With Major Depressive Disorder

: We describe a female patient who was an extensive metabolizer of cytochrome P450 isoenzyme (CYP) 2D6 and an intermediate metabolizer of CYP2C19 (genotype: CYP2C19 *1/*2). She exhibited high serum concentrations of venlafaxine and O-desmethylvenlafaxine and developed severe tremor after comedication with cotrimoxazole (sulfamethazole/trimethoprim). Venlafaxine is mainly metabolized by O- and N-demethylation. O-demethylation is catalyzed by the highly polymorphic CYP2D6 and N-demethylation by several enzymes, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4. Effects of steatosis on drug-metabolizing capability of primary human hepatocytes.

Abstract The suitability of liver grafts discarded for transplantation because of macrosteatosis for preparing human hepatocyte cultures for in vitro drug metabolism studies has been examined. Lower cell viability and yield of isolation procedure were obtained from fatty livers (>40% steatosis) with respect to normal tissue. Significant reductions in 7-ethoxycoumarin O-deethylation (ECOD) and testosterone oxidations were found in hepatocytes prepared from steatotic livers. The potential impact of lipid accumulation on P450 enzymes was studied in vitro by incubation of cultured hepatocytes with long chain free fatty acids (FFA). Dual specificity phosphatase DUSP1 (otherwise known as mitogen-activated phosphatase 1 or MKP-1) dephosphorylates MAPKs, particularly p38, and negatively regulates innate immunity. Recent studies have shown that the DUSP1 gene is transcriptionally up-regulated by glucocorticoids (GCs) and that the antiinflammatory action of GCs is impaired in DUSP1-/- mice. Here we show that GC-mediated dephosphorylation of ERK-1 and ERK-2 activated by IgE receptor cross-linking is unimpaired in bone marrow-derived mast cells (BMMCs) of DUSP1-/- mice. Distinct subsets of regulatory T cells during pregnancy: is the imbalance of these subsets involved in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia?

Abstract Regulatory T cells (CD4 + CD25 + FoxP3 + -Treg cells) are important regulators of tolerance induction during pregnancy. We now found that the number of CD4 + CD25 + FoxP3 + -Treg cells decreases during normal course of pregnancy and even more so in women affected by preeclampsia. The functional activity of these CD4 + CD25 + -Treg cells was significantly reduced in comparison to those of healthy pregnants. Further analysis revealed two Treg subsets that differed with regard to the FoxP3 and CD25 expression. The percentage of both, CD4 + CD25 + FoxP3 high+ -Treg and CD4 + CD25 high+ FoxP3 + , was maximal in the first and second trimenon, but declined severely in the third trimenon. …
