Character of particle-hole excitations in94Ru deduced fromγ-ray angular correlation and linear polarization measurements
2014
Linear polarization and angular correlations of gamma-rays depopulating excited states in the neutron-deficient nucleus Ru-94(44)50 have been measured, enabling firm spin-parity assignments for several excited states in this nucleus. The deduced multipolarities of strong transitions in the yrast structure were found to be mostly of stretched M1, E1, and E2 types and, in most cases, in agreement with previous tentative assignments. The deduced multipolarity of the 1869 keV and the connecting 257 and 1641 keV transitions indicates that the state at 6358 keV excitation energy has spin parity 12(1)(-) rather than 12(3)(+) as proposed in previous works. The presence of a 12(1)(-) state is interp…
First observation of excited states inHg17595
2009
Excited states of the neutron-deficient nucleus Hg-175, populated using fusion-evaporation reactions, are reported for the first time. The spin and parity of the ground state has been determined to ...
Low-lying resonances from chiral unitary dynamics
2003
Abstract The s-wave meson-baryon interaction is studied using the lowest-order chiral lagrangian in a unitary coupled-channels Bethe-Salpeter equation. The resonances belonging to the low-lying J P = 1 2 − octet, the N (1535), Λ(1620) and Ξ(1620), together with the Λ(1405) singlet, are generated dynamically through multiple meson-baryon scattering. The Λ(1405) appears as a mixture of K N and πΣ quasibond states, while the Λ(1670) is a K Ξ quasibond state. Arguments are given to assigne J P = 1 2 − to the unmeasured spin and parity of the Ξ(1620).
POLARIZED ELECTRONS AND POSITRONS AT THE MESA ACCELERATOR
2011
We suggest starting an accelerator physics project called the Mainz Energyrecovering Superconducting Accelerator (MESA) as an extension to the experimental facilities at the institute for nuclear physics. MESA may allow us to introduce an innovative internal target regime based on the ERL principle. A second mode of operation will be to use an external polarized electron beam for parity violating experiments. Furthermore, MESA could also allow us to establish a CW source of polarized positrons.
Parity-violating electron scattering at MAMI
2003
A measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in elastic scattering of polarized electrons on protons is currently running within the A4 Collaboration at the MAMI facility in Mainz. The aim is to reveal the contribution of strange quarks to the form factors of the nucleon at a Q 2 = 0.23 GeV2. The expected asymmetry without strangeness is around 5.4 × 10−6. After 600 hours of asymmetry data taking, an accuracy of 1 × 10−6 has been achieved.
First observation of the beta decay of117Pd and the discovery of a new isotope119Pd
1991
In this paper we wish to report the first direct observations of the beta decays of117Pd and of a new isotope119Pd. The measuredβ-half-life is 4.3±0.3 s for117Pd. For119Pd, the existence of two beta-decaying states with the same half-life but of opposite parity cannot be excluded. The measured half-life for119Pd is 0.92±0.13 s. The observed beta half-lifes are in good agreement with the QRPA predictions. The observed level structure of117Ag and119Ag are discussed in the frame of the level systematics of the known odd Ag isotopes closer to stability.
Lepton conservation and time reversal in β-decay
1959
It was investigated which conclusions can be inferred from β-decay experiments taking into account experimental errors but without making theoretical assumptions.
Physics at the electron accelerator MAMI
1995
Abstract An overview of physics at the Mainz Microtron facility MAMI is given. After a short description of the essential parameters of the accelerator, selected results of three different collaborations A1, A2, and A3, each centered around one major experimental facility, are presented. The A1 collaboration has installed a setup of three large acceptance magnetic spectrometers. Results presented are high momentum components (pm ≤ 700MeV/c) in 16O(e, e′p), L T separation and LT interference structure functions in p(e, e′π+), and angular distribution of p(e, e′p)π0 at π0 threshold. The A2 collaboration has installed a broad band tagger for experiments with nonpolarized and polarized photons.…
Constraints on Models for the Higgs Boson with Exotic Spin and Parity inVH→Vbb¯Final States
2014
We present constraints on models containing non-standard-model values for the spin J and parity P of the Higgs boson H in up to 9.7 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. These are the first studies of Higgs boson J(P) with fermions in the final state. In the ZH -> llb (b) over bar, WH -> l nu b (b) over barb, and ZH -> nu nu b (b) over bar final states, we compare the standard model (SM) Higgs boson prediction, J(P) = 0(+), with two alternative hypotheses, J(P) = 0(-) and J(P) = 2(+). We use a likelihood ratio to quantify the degree to which our data are incompatible with non-SM J(P) predictions for a range…
The muX project
2021
The project is conducting a series of muonic X-ray measurements in medium- and high-Z nuclei at PSI, utilizing a high-purity germanium detector array, in-beam muon detectors, and a modern digital data-acquisition system. A novel hydrogen target for muon transfer was developed, enabling measurements with as little as a few micrograms of target material. First measurements with radioactive Cm and Ra targets were conducted, aimed at determining their nuclear charge radii. These serve as important input for upcoming atomic parity violation experiments. The apparatus is also used to perform a feasibility study of an atomic parity violation experiment with the 2s-1s2s−1s muonic X-ray transition. …
