R-Parity Breaking in Minimal Supergravity

1999

We consider the Minimal Supergravity Model with universality of scalar and gaugino masses plus an extra bilinear term in the superpotential which breaks R-Parity and lepton number. We explicitly check the consistency of this model with the radiative breaking of the electroweak symmetry. A neutrino mass is radiatively induced, and large Higgs-Lepton mixings are compatible with its experimental bound. We also study briefly the lightest Higgs mass. This one-parameter extension of SUGRA-MSSM is the simplest way of introducing R-parity violation.

Implications of parity violation in atoms for gauge theories

1977

The knowledge to be gained on neutral currents from parity-violating observables in heavy atoms is studied. After isolating the relevant couplings, the major part of the analysis is done within the framework ofSU 2 ⊗U 1 unified gauge theories of weak and electromagnetic interactions. The leptonic and hadronic sectors of these models are studied separately, by means of the available information from neutrino physics, to impose restrictions on the mass of the neutral intermediate boson and on the unification angle. The observable in atoms, which provides a link between the two sectors, is found to be powerful in discriminating among models.

New physics constraints from atomic parity violation in Cs133

2021

Our improved calculation of the nuclear spin-independent parity violating electric dipole transition amplitude ($E{1}_{\mathrm{PV}}$) for $6s{^{2}S}_{1/2}\ensuremath{-}7s{^{2}S}_{1/2}$ in $^{133}\mathrm{Cs}$ in combination with the most accurate (0.3%) measurement of this quantity yields a new value for the nuclear weak charge ${Q}_{W}=\ensuremath{-}73.71(26{)}_{ex}(23{)}_{th}$ against the Standard Model (SM) prediction ${Q}_{W}^{\mathrm{SM}}=\ensuremath{-}73.23(1)$. The advances in our calculation of $E{1}_{\mathrm{PV}}$ have been achieved by using a variant of the perturbed relativistic coupled-cluster theory, which treats the contributions of the core, valence, and excited states to $E{1…

Measurement of the Michel parameters and the nu(tau) helicity in tau lepton decays

2001

A measurement of the Michel parameters and the average $\nu_\tau$ helicity in $\tau$ lepton decays is described. The data was collected with the ALEPH detector at LEP during the years 1991 to 1995. A total integrated luminosity of 155\,$\text{pb}^{-1}$ is analysed. The Michel parameters $\rho_l$, $\xi_l$, $(\xi\delta)_l$ ($l=e,\mu$), and $\eta_\mu$ are determined for the leptonic deca ys, and the chirality parameters $\xi_\pi$, $\xi_\rho$, and $\xi_{a_1}$ for the hadronic final states. Under the assumptions of $e$\bis $\mu$ universality and $\xi_\pi=\xi_\rho=\xi_{a_1}$, the values $\rho_l=0.742\pm 0.016, \eta_l=0.01 2\pm 0.026,\break (\xi\delta)_l=0.776\pm 0.051, \xi_l=0.986\pm 0.074$, and …

Discreteness effects on a sine-Gordon breather

1991

We employ collective-variable theory to describe the dynamics of a breather excitation in its center-of-mass frame in continuous and discrete systems of one spatial dimension. The exact equations of motion for the collective variable and coupled phonon field are derived for any system which supports breatherlike excitations that have even spatial parity where the collective variable represents half the distance between the breather subkinks. We then specialize the theory to the sine-Gordon (SG) case. For the continuum SG system we derive the exact effective potential in terms of the collective variable and discuss the relativistic effects on the breather subkinks which are quite different t…

Neutron skin studies of medium and heavy nuclei

2014

The recent PREX experiment at JLab has demonstrated the sensitivity of parity violating electron scattering to the neutron density, meanwhile outlining its major experimental challenges. On the other side, intermediate energy photons are an ideal probe for studying the properties of strongly interacting matter from the nuclear scale down to the sub-nuclear components of the nucleus. Among others coherent pion photoproduction can provide information on the existence and nature of neutron skins in nuclei. The simultaneous combination of different techniques allows a systematic determination across the periodic table thus benchmarking modern calculation. Recently a systematic investigation of …

Symmetries in harmonic generation by a two-color field: an application to a simple model atom

1999

We show that the parity of the order of the harmonics generated by a bichromatic field with commensurate frequencies may be related to the invariance properties of the time-dependent Hamiltonian with respect to some suitable transformations. To simplify the mathematical treatment, we have used a simple model atom to perform calculations that show the effects of the relative phase of the driving fields. Harmonic generation has been described as a two-step process that involves replicas of the Stark levels. In agreement with other previous treatments in which other model atoms were used, we have found that a small contamination of the fundamental harmonic can produce significant modifications…

Robustness of quantum memories based on Majorana zero modes

2012

We analyze the rate at which quantum information encoded in zero-energy Majorana modes is lost in the presence of perturbations. We show that information can survive for times that scale exponentially with the size of the chain both in the presence of quenching and time-dependent quadratic dephasing perturbations, even when the latter have spectral components above the system's energy gap. The origin of the robust storage, namely the fact that a sudden quench affects in the same way both parity sectors of the original spectrum, is discussed, together with the memory performance at finite temperatures and in the presence of particle exchange with a bath.

CP symmetry and thermal effects on Dirac bi-spinor spin–parity local correlations

2018

Intrinsic quantum correlations supported by the $SU(2)\otimes SU(2)$ structure of the Dirac equation used to describe particle/antiparticle states, optical ion traps and bilayer graphene are investigated and connected to the description of local properties of Dirac bi-spinors. For quantum states driven by Dirac-like Hamiltonians, quantum entanglement and geometric discord between spin and parity degrees of freedom - sometimes mapped into equivalent low energy internal degrees of freedom - are obtained. Such \textit{spin-parity} quantum correlations and the corresponding nonlocal intrinsic structures of bi-spinor fermionic states can be classified in order to relate quantum observables to th…

Decoherence and robustness of parity-dependent entanglement in the dynamics of a trapped ion

2001

We study the entanglement between the 2D vibrational motion and two ground state hyperfine levels of a trapped ion, Under particular conditions this entanglement depends on the parity of the total initial vibrational quanta. We study the robustness of this quantum coherence effect with respect to the presence of non-dissipative sources of decoherence, and of an imperfect initial state preparation.
