Simultaneous Anodic Dissolution and Passivation of Nickel in Moderate Acid Medium

The EQCM results show that nickel electrodissolution and nickel passivation occur simultaneously in a sulphate acid media of pH = 3.5. Mass balances have been done from the instantaneous F(dm/dQ) function. The fitting of the experimental i = f(E) and -dm/dt = g(E) curves to the theoretical equations allow to obtain information about the kinetic parameters and the molecular mass of the species involved in the electrochemical processes.

Fuzzy Control Strategy for Cooperative Non-holonomic Motion of Cybercars with Passengers Vibration Analysis

The cybercars are electric road wheeled non-holonomic vehicles with fully automated driving capabilities. They contribute to sustainable mobility and are employed as passenger vehicles. Non-holonomic mechanics describes the motion of the cybercar constrained by non-integrable constraints, i.e. constraints on the system velocities that do not arise from constraints on the configuration alone. First of all there are thus with dynamic nonholonomic constraints, i.e. constraints preserved by the basic Euler-Lagrange equations (Bloch, 2000; Melluso, 2007; Raimondi & Melluso, 2006-a). Homoclinic Solutions of Nonlinear Laplacian Difference Equations Without Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz Condition

The aim of this paper is to establish the existence of at least two non-zero homoclinic solutions for a nonlinear Laplacian difference equation without using Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type-conditions. The main tools are mountain pass theorem and Palais-Smale compactness condition involving suitable functionals.
Path integral method for first-passage probability determination of nonlinear systems under levy white noise

In this paper the problem of the first-passage probabilities determination of nonlinear systems under alpha-stable Lévy white noises is addressed. Based on the properties of alpha-stable random variables and processes, the Path Integral method is extended to deal with nonlinear systems driven by Lévy white noises with a generic value of the stability index alpha. Furthermore, the determination of reliability functions and first-passage time probability density functions is handled step-by-step through a modification of the Path Integral technique. Comparison with pertinent Monte Carlo simulation reveals the excellent accuracy of the proposed method.
Emergence and Phylodynamics of Citrus tristeza virus in Sicily, Italy

Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) outbreaks were detected in Sicily island, Italy for the first time in 2002. To gain insight into the evolutionary forces driving the emergence and phylogeography of these CTV populations, we determined and analyzed the nucleotide sequences of the p20 gene from 108 CTV isolates collected from 2002 to 2009. Bayesian phylogenetic analysis revealed that mild and severe CTV isolates belonging to five different clades (lineages) were introduced in Sicily in 2002. Complementary electrochemical, spectrophotometric and electron microsopic investigations were made in addition to the conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopic (CEMS) measurements to learn more about the mechanism of corrosion of low carbon steel samples in aqueous sulfate and sulfite containing sulfate solutions (pH 3.5, 6.5 and 8.5). Passivation of iron in pure sulfate solution was studied in detail in earlier papers. The passivation of low carbon steel was studied in aqueous solution of 0.5 M Na2SO4+0.001 M NaHSO3 at pH=3.5 and 6.5. The found major components at pH-3.5 were: γ-FeOOH and Fe3C, and also FeSO4.H2O could be identified on the surface of the low carbon steel as a minor component. At pH-6.5, the passive film contained only amorphous iron(III)-oxide or oxyhydroxide.
Electrochemical and conversion electron mössbauer study of corrosion induced by acid rain

Abstract The passivation of low carbon steel was studied in aqueous solution of 0.5M Na2SO4 +0.001M NaHSO3 (pH 3.5, 6.5 and 8.5) which can be considered as a model of acid rain. The used conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) with the complementary electrochemical investigations proved that the sulfite ions induce pitting corrosion at pH 3.5 and 6 5 while the measurements showed much weaker pitting at pH 8.5. The compositions and thicknesses of the passive films formed during the electrochemical treatments are determined from the CEM spectra. COMPASS RICH-1 is a large size gaseous Imaging Cherenkov Detector providing hadron identification in the range from 3 to 55 GeV/c, in the wide acceptance spectrometer of the COMPASS Experiment at CERN SPS. It uses a 3 m long C(4)F(10) radiator, a 21 m(2) large VUV mirror surface and two kinds of photon detectors: MAPMTs and MWPCs with CsI photocathodes, covering a total of 5.5 m(2). It is in operation since 2002 and its performance has increased in time thanks to progressive optimization and mostly to a major upgrade which was implemented in 2006.
