The COMPASS experiment at CERN

The COMPASS experiment makes use of the CERN SPS high-intensitymuon and hadron beams for the investigation of the nucleon spin structure and the spectroscopy of hadrons. One or more outgoing particles are detected in coincidence with the incoming muon or hadron. A large polarized target inside a superconducting solenoid is used for the measurements with the muon beam. Outgoing particles are detected by a two-stage, large angle and large momentum range spectrometer. The setup is built using several types of tracking detectors, according to the expected incident rate, required space resolution and the solid angle to be covered. The high energy polarised muon beam available at CERN with the option of using positive or negative muons with opposite polarisation gives COMPASS an excellent possibility to study generalised parton distributions via deeply virtual Compton scattering. In a first step we propose to use an unpolarised proton target to study the slope of the t dependence of the differential cross section as a function of xB j to observe a possible shrinkage of the nucleon with increasing xB j. An elliptic equation on n-dimensional manifolds

We consider an elliptic equation driven by a p-Laplacian-like operator, on an n-dimensional Riemannian manifold. The growth condition on the right-hand side of the equation depends on the geometry of the manifold. We produce a nontrivial solution by using a Palais–Smale compactness condition and a mountain pass geometry.

Prevalence of tick-borne pathogens in ticks collected from migratory birds in Latvia.

Migratory birds act as hosts and long-distance vectors for several tick-borne infectious agents. Here, feeding Ixodes ticks were collected from migratory birds during the autumn migration period in Latvia and screened for the presence of epidemiologically important non-viral pathogens. A total of 93 DNA samples of ticks (37 larvae and 56 nymphs) removed from 41 birds (order Passeriformes, 9 species) was tested for Lyme borreliosis spirochaetes, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Rickettsia spp., and Babesia spp. Borrelia burgdorferi DNA was detected in 18% of the tick samples, and a majority of infected ticks were from thrush (Turdus spp.) birds. MUSIC-based modal channel estimation for wideband OFDM-OQAM

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) over wideband frequency selective multipath channels suffers from inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI) that degrade its performance. Channel estimation and equalization are needed to combat these interferences. In this paper a novel channel estimator for passband OFDM-OQAM signaling over wideband multipath channels, which is based on multiple signal classification (MUSIC) with the Spatial Smoothing technique is presented. Numerical simulation results are presented in the low number of subcarriers, i.e. wideband, scenario.

Up to 10% of germ cell tumor patients require salvage high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell support, achieving cure rates in the range of 10-60%. Stem cell mobilization may be difficult in these patients because of multiple lines of treatment known to seriously hamper stem cell recovery. Plerixafor significantly enhances the success of the CD34+ cell harvest, even in cases where prior mobilization attempts have failed. Introduction The antibody-drug conjugate polatuzumab vedotin (Pola) has recently been approved in combination with bendamustine and rituximab (Pola-BR) for patients with r/r diffuse LBCL (DLBCL). Methods To characterize the efficacy of Pola-BR in a real-world setting, we retrospectively analyzed data from 97 patients with r/r LBCL who were treated with Pola in 24 German centers within the national CUP.
