Comparison of the effect of non-polluted and underwater-volcano-polluted seawater on the corrosion resistance of different stainless steels

This work compares the effect of non‐polluted and underwater‐volcano‐polluted seawater on the electrochemical behavior of two different alloys, notably an austenitic stainless steel (SS) and a duplex stainless steel. Polarization measurements, potentiostatic passivation tests, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and capacitance measurements were performed. Results show that the composition of the polluted seawater negatively affects the passivation kinetics of both AISI 316 SS and Alloy 900, decreasing the corrosion resistance of both alloys. Effect of Composition on the Photoelectrochemical Behavior of Anodic Oxides on Binary Aluminum Alloys

The photoelectrochemical behavior of anodic films on Al alloys, containing titanium, tantalum, and tungsten (valve metals), has been studied as a function of alloy composition and anodizing conditions. Photocurrent spectroscopy has been used to get information on bandgap and the flatband potential values of different mixed oxides. Both insulator-like and semiconducting behavior has been observed for anodic oxides grown on Al-W and Al-Ti alloys dependent on alloy initial composition. Some information is not accessible to the deaf and hard-of-hearing in public transportation because it is diffused in an auditory mode with loud speakers. The present study aims to transcribe graphically five messages of disruption and test their understanding by an audience of people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Four graphic formats, more or less involving animation techniques have been developed. All-fiber noninterferometric narrow-transmission-bandpass filter

In-fiber mode engineering based on the combination of Bragg and long-period gratings (LPGs) permits the implementation of noninterferometric transmission filters with narrow passbands using standard single-mode fiber. The design of the bandpass filter is based on the coupling between propagating and counterpropagating cladding modes in two fiber Bragg gratings. A LPG located between the Bragg gratings transfers power from the input fundamental mode to a specific cladding mode and recouples the filtered signal to the output fundamental mode. Structural analysis of extensional faults in the Mâconnais Hills shows that low-intensity extensional phenomena occurred back from the passive margin of the Ligurian Tethys, the axis of which lay some 400 km southeast of the study area in Mid-Jurassic times. Storm-induced rip current directions and coral lens positions suggest that the palaeotopography was maintained by early faulting.

Abstract Stratigraphic studies and facies analysis integrated with a new geological and structural survey of the Meso-Cenozoic units outcropping in the Campania–Lucania Apennines, southern Italy, allowed us to restore the palaeogeographic pattern and the tectonic evolution of the chain during Oligo-Miocene times. The southern Apennines are a N150°-striking and NE-verging fold-and-thrust belt mainly derived from the deformation of the African–Apulian passive margin. Four wide belts with different features have been recognized in the chain area.
