Reduced-dose of doublet chemotherapy combined with anti-EGFR antibodies in vulnerable older patients with metastatic colorectal cancer: Data from the…

2022

Abstract Objectives To assess the toxicity patterns and effectiveness of doublet chemotherapy when administered at reduced doses of 20% (FOLFOX or FOLFIRI) in combination with anti-EGFR antibodies (cetuximab or panitumumab) in old, vulnerable patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Patients and methods We performed a retrospective observational study of RAS and BRAF wild-type, vulnerable patients aged ≥70 years with previously untreated mCRC. The primary endpoint was safety, and secondary endpoints were overall response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). Results One hundred and eighteen patients were collected from 14 selected Italian centres.…

Implementation of a strategy involving a multidisciplinary mobile unit team to prevent hospital admission in nursing home residents: protocol of a qu…

2020

IntroductionNursing home residents represent a particularly vulnerable population experiencing high risk of unplanned hospital admissions, but few interventions have proved effective in reducing this risk. The aim of this research will be to verify the effects of a hospital-based multidisciplinary mobile unit (MMU) team intervention delivering urgent care to nursing home residents directly at their bedside. Methods and analysisFour nursing homes based in the Parma province, in Northern Italy, will be involved in this prospective, pragmatic, multicentre, 18-month quasiexperimental study (sequential design with two cohorts). The residents of two nursing homes will receive the MMU team care int…

Visual And Refractive Outcomes In Hyperopic Pseudophakic Patients Implanted With A Trifocal Intraocular Lens

2019

Purpose To assess visual and refractive results after bilateral implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) in patients with hyperopia. Methods In a retrospective nonrandomized study, 196 eyes of 98 patients had bilateral implantation of a trifocal IOL. The Barrett Universal II formula was used for IOL power calculation. Eyes were divided into two groups for their analysis: low-moderate, with IOL power ranging from 22 to 26 D, and high, with IOL power ranging from 25 to 34 D. Refractive error was used to assess predictability, and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and uncorrected distance visual acuity values were used to assess efficacy and safety of the surgery. Results Six mo…

Appraisal of Burden of Caregivers to Chronically Rehabilitated Patients with Spinal Cord Injuries in a Tertiary Neurological Center in Nepal

2021

The care of a patient with a spinal cord injury is part of healthcare systems. It causes a substantial physical and emotional drain on the caretakers who often are in short supply and thus may lack adequate training, preparation, and support. Long hours of assisting a chronically handicapped patient with activities of daily living and exercises decrease the rehabilitator's quality of life and take a psychological toll that increases a risk of burnout syndrome. The present study found a significant caregiving burden among care providers of chronically dependent patients with spinal cord injuries. Additionally, financial drain escalates the issue in this rather neglected health and quality of…

Ground reaction force patterns during gait in patients with lower limb lymphedema

2016

Although gait problems have been reported in patients with lower limb lymphedema (LLL), the gait pattern (GP) changes have not been documented yet. However, it is possible that patients with LLL show abnormal GP that can be related to biomechanical complications related to osteoarthritis or falls affecting the quality of life. Ground reaction force analysis during gait allows objective assessment of the patients and it can be used to plan a rehabilitation approach. Objective: To analyze the GRF during gait in patients LLL. Methods: An experimental descriptive study was realized with twenty-three LLL patients, both unilateral and bilateral and classified as moderate and severe, participated …

Abstract 16304: Readiness for Physical Activity in Patients With Heart Failure

2020

Introduction: Little attention has been given to assessing the physical readiness and psychological readiness (motivation & self-efficacy) in patients with heart failure (HF). The aim of this study is to explore the readiness for PA (physical and psychological) in patients with HF and factors related. Method: A cross-sectional study with 163 patients included (mean age 66±16, 50% female, 63% NYHA I, 37% NYHA II) assessing background and clinical data, physical activity (IPAQ-s), depression and anxiety (HADs), quality of life (SF36). Readiness for PA was assessed with physical readiness based on the PA Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and psychological readiness was measured with the Exe…

Depression and recovery of daily life autonomy in patients with stroke receiving home rehabilitative treatment.

2009

Background : The object of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of post stroke depression and its possible role as a predictive negative factor in patients receiving home rehabilitation treatment. Methods : We analyzed 103 patients with stroke by correlating comorbidities, clinical and blood test parameters and characteristics of the lesion with depression class identified according to the Hamilton scale and the outcome of the rehabilitation program. Results : A significant association between hypertension and post-stroke severe depression emerged in the female patients. Conclusions : Since the literature offers conflicting data, our results may contribute a stimulus for further studie…

The aim was to give an overview on recent findings from animal to human studies that were conducted by several research groups engaged in the alcoholism field in Germany for longer periods. Results of his animal studies were presented by J. Wolfgramm; G. Buchringer reported on epidemiologic and psychotherapeutic research advances on alcohol-related disorders in Germany. L. G. Schmidt summarized results of novel diagnostic and therapeutic appro…

2018

Background Orthognathic surgery is the cornerstone of the treatment of dentofacial deformities, which have a great psychological and social impact on the life of the patient. Patient satisfaction and the impact on quality of life have recently become clinical parameters of growing importance. The aim of this study was to undertake a transcultural adaptation, translation to Spanish and validation of this version of the questionnaire OQLQ, used to measure quality of life in the context of Spanish culture. Material and methods Validation of the OQLQ questionnaire to the Spanish language was carried out through the methodology of translation and back translation, conceptual equivalence and pilo…
