El Discurso sobre el microscopio del Dr. José Ortí Moles (1650-1728) es el texto de una conferencia impartida en Valencia a finales del siglo XVII. Su autor un conocido jurista, dramaturgo y poeta fue invitado por alguna de las academias a las que perteneció ¿del Conde de la Alcudia? ¿Valenciana? a disertar sobre un tema que supuestamente dominaba como amateur. La exposición superficial, obsoleta, sesgada hacia la metáfora político-moral y basada en la obra de los jesuitas PP. Kircher, Schott y Milliet Dechales nos proporciona un magnífico testimonio del estado de conocimientos y del grado de aspiraciones intelectuales alcanzado por las academias valencianas de notables. El objetivo de este artículo es presentar los resultados de una investigación realizada en Italia sobre el tema de las consecuencias existenciales y psicológicas del trabajo precario entre los jóvenes altamente cualificados. Para facilitar la comprensión del contexto italiano, se describe el marco legislativo y las principales características del mercado laboral precario italiano. Roles of a conserved proline in the internal fusion peptide of Ebola glycoprotein

AbstractThe structural determinants underlying the functionality of viral internal fusion peptides (IFPs) are not well understood. We have compared EBOwt (GAAIGLAWIPYFGPAAE), representing the IFP of the Ebola fusion protein GP, and EBOmut (GAAIGLAWIPYFGRAAE) derived from a non-functional mutant with conserved Pro537 substituted by Arg. P537R substitution did not abrogate peptide-membrane association, but interfered with the ability to induce bilayer destabilization. Structural determinations suggest that Pro537 is required to preserve a membrane-perturbing local conformation in apolar environments.

Phoma tracheiphila is the causal agent of a tracheomycotic disease of citrus called mal secco causing the dieback of twigs and branches. This pathogen is of quarantine concern; therefore, fast and reliable protocols are required to detect it promptly. A specific primer pair and a dual-labeled fluorogenic probe were used in a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with the Cepheid Smart Cycler II System (Transportable Device TD configuration) to detect this fungus in citrus samples. Real-time PCR assay was compared to modified conventional PCR assay. Tomando como pretexto la teoría política de Walzer, el presente artículo pretende mostrar la necesidad de política en los tiempos y sociedades actuales. A pesar de lo depauperada y defenestrada que ésta pudiera parecer, sigue siendo necesario articular su papel en nuestras sociedades y mostrar su rol clave para librarnos de problemas tan omnipresentes como puede ser la corrupción en nuestros días. Para ello trataremos de indagar en cuál es el papel de la política y cómo es su relación con la sociedad civil y otras esferas de actuación, poniendo en valor su necesidad.

En el presente artículo se analizan los modelos mentales y las concepciones alternativas que tienen los estudiantes de distintos niveles educativos sobre el sistema linfático como componente del sistema circulatorio. Se establece una relación con las dificultades que se salvaron a lo largo de la historia en la adquisición de dichos conocimientos. Los resultados muestran una deficiente relación entre los sistemas linfáticos y sanguíneos, una falta de conocimientos tanto anatómicos como fisiológicos del sistema linfático y una dificultad para ampliar el modelo explicativo del transporte de nutrientes en los organismos animales, exclusivamente centrado en el sistema sanguíneo. Phenotypic and genotypic evaluation of slime production by conventional and molecular microbiological techniques.

Twenty-nine staphylococcal isolates from different clinical samples were tested for slime production: phenotypic characterization was carried out using Christensen test (tube test) and Congo red agar plate test (CRA plate test), while the presence and expression of icaA and icaD genes were evaluated by real-time PCR. In 79.3% of studied strains there was a concordance between slime production and presence of icaA and icaD genes, and between lack of slime production and absence of both or only one of the tested genes.
