Background The Norwegian version of the Kidscreen-27, a measure of generic health-related quality of life, has not yet been validated. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Norwegian Kidscreen-27, in 10 year-old children. Methods The Kidscreen-27 consists of five domains and was validated in a cross-sectional study of 1085 school children (52.5 % boys). In addition a subsample of 56 children also had repeated measures in order to study test-retest reliability. Glochidium larvae and juveniles of the endangered freshwater pearl mussel Margaritifera margaritifera may be sensitive to low pH and metal exposure, but to our knowledge, no tolerance tests have been performed. Therefore, we exposed glochidia, fish-attached glochidia, and juveniles of the pearl mussel to low pH and increased iron (Fe) and aluminum (Al) by using realistic pH (6.0–4.5), Fe (0.5–2.0 mg L−1), and Al (0.25–1.0 mg L−1) levels periodically observed in this study site. Survival of glochidia decreased with decreasing pH, increasing Fe, and increasing Al, as well as with increasing Fe + Al concentration in a 72 h exposure. AbstractIn recent years, severe haze events often occurred in China, causing serious environmental problems. The mechanisms responsible for the haze formation, however, are still not well understood, hindering the forecast and mitigation of haze pollution. Our study of the 2012–13 winter haze events in Beijing shows that atmospheric water vapour plays a critical role in enhancing the heavy haze events.
