Crowdsourcing as a mode of open innovation: Exploring drivers of success of a multisided platform through system dynamics modelling

2020

This article aims to explore drivers of success of a crowdsourcing platform. The study conceptualizes crowdsourcing as a mode of open innovation and places such a concept within the context of the sharing economy. Upon this framework, the paper analyses the case of InnoCentive, a successful crowdsourcing platform where innovation-driven organizations search for solutions to their R&D tasks. The system dynamics model frames main InnoCentive business processes and offers a causal perspective on the relationships between platform performance—in terms of users base—and resources structure. The discussion on simulation outputs is carried out through a dynamic performance management view of p…

Performance Management in Local Government: The Application of System Dynamics to Promote Data Use

2014

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how system dynamics can be used to enrich performance management in local government, focusing specifically on how the development of conceptual and simulation system dynamic models can foster a shared view of the relevant system among stakeholders to overcome factors that limit data use. Responding to this purpose, we present a normative case study on how key drivers can be used to foster a shared view of the residential refuse collection system for supporting policy and process changes. A major finding from our research, however, is that performance management cannot overlook the broader forces of citizenship outcomes that impact the community.

Addressing Patients Mobility through a Dynamic Performance Management perspective: the case of Sicily

A dynamic performance management approach to support local strategic planning

2015

In spite of efforts devoted in the last decades to local strategic planning, such field of research and practice has been frequently characterized by a lack of implementation. We argue here that this phenomenon is due to the limitations of the static and linear approach to local strategic planning in fostering the development of common shared view among policy makers on the relevant system's structure and behavior. By means of a case-study, we illustrate how an approach based on system dynamics modeling applied to Performance Management can be useful to overcome such weaknesses. The proposed approach enhances a better understanding of the causes and effects related to adopted policies, unde…

Lack of Good Governance or hazard of consumers e-Health? Evidence through a dynamic outcome based-performance in the Italian healthcare sector about …

This research aims to analyse the management of the health policies to contain the measles outbreaks in Italy. In particular, this study wants to find out what are the key factors that led to the measles outbreak of 2017 and its previous cyclical trend, analysing the impact of ehealth strategy in the management of the epidemics. Understanding the complexity of this issue will help to evaluate the actual policies of the Italian Ministry of Healthcare and to steer the policy-makers to frame sustainable policies to manage the risk of a measles outbreak. The thesis is structured in four chapters. The first chapter, through a literature review, discusses the evolution of the management of epidem…

'REOFUT' as an Observation Tool for Tactical Analysis on Offensive Performance in Soccer: Mixed Method Perspective

2019

Performance analysis in complex sports like soccer requires the study of the influence of the interaction between both teams during the game on final performance. The mixed methods approach involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data for the same purpose and within the framework of the same study. To build certain observation tools, mixed methods are necessary in order to take advantage of integration between qualitative and quantitative elements. The aim of this study was to develop a new no standard observation tool to analyze soccer offensive performance considering not only the observed team but also some aspects of the opponent behavior, a…

Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS) Does Not Affect Sports People’s Explosive Power: A Pilot Study

2021

Purpose: This study is aimed to preliminary investigate whether transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) could affect explosive power considering genetic background in sport subjects. Methods: Seventeen healthy sports volunteers with at least 3 years of sports activities participated in the experiment. After 2 weeks of familiarization performed without any stimulation, each participant received either 50 Hz-tACS or sham-tACS. Before and after stimulation, subjects performed the following tests: (1) the squat jump with the hands on the hips (SJ); (2) countermovement jump with the hands on the hips (CMJ); (3) countermovement jump with arm swing (CMJ-AS); (4) 15-s Bosco’s test; (5) s…

Introduction of Multiflow for HSDPA

2012

This paper introduces a multi-cell transmission scheme for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) networks, called Multiflow. In this concept, downlink data is transmitted to a user terminal at the border of two cells from one or both of the cells. The cells may belong to same NodeB or to two different NodeBs. The data flows are separated by different scrambling codes used by each associated cell, thus the flows can be treated independently. This provides increased multi-user diversity by means of flexibility in downlink resource management, in addition to the spatial diversity of multiple transmission locations. Another important gain mechanism for this scheme is realized by short-term …

An Information Systems Design Product Theory for Integrated Requirements, Test and Defect Management Systems

2012

Software companies need to develop high-quality products fast and with low cost. Development activities are typically distributed in different places and involve multiple stakeholders in different countries. Testing is an important way to ensure product quality but it is costly and takes ample time and resources. Sourcing testing services from specialized service providers is often the most viable option for software businesses. Flexible and effective test process management is especially vital to support the testing life-cycle when external testing service providers are involved. Yet, the extant literature provides little theoretical guidance for managing the testing life-cycle, including …
