Religion and transnationalism: biographies of South Korean migrants – an empirical perspective

As a result of studying interviews with Korean migrants (miners and nurses who moved to Germany and [some of them] further on to North America) we show how this group finds or “comes to religion”. After presenting a concept of religion, following the model of Ulrich Oevermann, parts of autobiographical narratives are analyzed and the complicated, intertwining and often conflicting relationships between religion and transnationalism are studied; we ask, among other things, if religion is becoming a compensation for moving back and forth between the home country and the country of residence. ABSTRACTThe abduction of two Frenchmen in January 2011 in Niamey's supposedly most secure neighbourhood has led many to question the functioning of the city's security apparatus. This paper analyses Niamey's security landscape, initially from an historical and then from a spatial perspective. It argues that for a comprehensive analysis of security, we must first decentre our perspective on security construction, and thus take informal non-organised modes of policing just as seriously as policing by state and vigilante organisations; and second, take into account the inseparability of sociality and security, a fragile balance of trust and acceptable risk. Experts speak of violence as a psychosocial disease generated in violent environments habituation caused by a lack of democratic consciousness. In this regard, violence is broached in this paper considering it as some kind of atmosphere, especially when it is spread in school. Our contribution includes this perspective and concludes, after analysing the broad outlines of some programs and anti-harassment guidelines, the solution relates to promote social harmony and it goes through a basic premise: both aggressors and assaulted must be aware of their duties and basic rights.
The use of reflection-card by elite youth basketball players, head coach and team manager : effects on players’ performance and perceptions of users

AbstractThe purpose of the present paper was to test the effectiveness of the r-cards in sport performance, and to examine what kind of benefits and challenges the head coach, team manager and female basketball players (N = 12) faced when using the r-cards. Mixed methods were employed to gather specific data to answer the research questions. Inferential statistical analyses were conducted to examine whether players’ performances in terms of their targeted defensive rebound percentage and free-throw percentage differed across the five matches played. Whilst many organizations worldwide have stopped disclosing Intellectual Capital (IC), to the best of our knowledge, the only longstanding NPO still measuring, managing and reporting its IC is a large Italian non-profit organization (NPO), ANPAS Piemonte. The main aim of the article is thus to investigate the reasons why ANPAS Piemonte continues to deal with IC, to examine the determinants of this choice, the costs and the benefits management gets from IC measurement, management and reporting.
