As differing airway diameters throughout the ventilatory cycle can influence gas inflow this study intends to investigate the influence of volume and timing of a He gas bolus with respect to the beginning of the tidal volume on inspiratory gas distribution. Transporter (TAP)- and proteasome-independent presentation of a melanoma-associated tyrosinase epitope.

The melanosomal protein tyrosinase is considered as a target of specific immunotherapy against melanoma. Two tyrosinase-derived peptides are presented in association with HLA-A2.1 [Wolfel et al., Eur. J. Immunol., 24, 759-764 (1994)]. Peptide 1-9 (MLLAVLYCL) is generated from the putative signal sequence. The internal peptide 369-377 is posttranslationally converted at residue 371, and its presentation is dependent on functional TAP transporters and proteasomes [Mosse et al., J. exp. Properties of modified hepatitis B virus surface antigen particles carrying preS epitopes

The current hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccines contain the small (S) and middle (M) viral envelope proteins in particulate form but lack the large (L) protein. Although these particles elicit protective immunity to HBV, inclusion of the immunogenic preS1 region of the L protein may enhance their efficacy. To present preS1-derived epitopes on secretable subviral particles we rearranged the HBV envelope ORF by fusing part or all of the preS1 region to either the N or C terminus of the S protein. Flip angle considerations in (3)helium-MRI.

3Helium-MRI ((3)He-MRI) can be used for analysis of lung function, e. g. dynamic imaging of ventilation and gas diffusion within the lung, assessment of intrapulmonary oxygen concentrations and their time course. During imaging, the irreversible signal loss due to depolarizing radio frequency excitations can be described using the flip angle (FA) alpha. This parameter has to be quantified in order to account for it during quantitative assessment of the (3)helium signal intensity and its temporal development. This technical report reviews two different methods to determine alpha. Limitations and possible error sources of each method are discussed.

Abstract We have studied aspects of absolute finite strain of sandstones and the deformation history above and below the Glarus Thrust in eastern Switzerland. The dominant deformation mechanism is solution mass transfer (SMT), which resulted in the formation of a semi-penetrative cleavage. Our analysis indicates that the Verrucano and Melser sandstones, which lie above the thrust, were deformed coaxially, with pronounced contraction in a subvertical Z direction and minor extension in a subhorizontal X direction, trending at ∼200°. Ribonuclease H levels in herpes simplex virus-infected cells.

Two forms of ribonuclease H (RNase H) have been identified both in uninfected and Herpes Simplex virus (HSV-)infected BHK cells. Identical RNase H species were detected in control- as well as in infected cells. RNase H I and II have not been found to be associated both with host cell DNA polymerase alpha and beta and HSV-induced DNA polymerase. Infection of BHK cells with HSV type 1 does not lead to a pronounced alteration of RNase H II activity but to an increase (3-fold) of the extractable RNase H I activity. The region 0.7615-0.796 m.u. of the HSV-1 genome determines suppression of humoral antibody formation against herpes simplex virus.

The influence of genetic properties of parts of the HSV-1 genome on suppression of humoral antibody formation was investigated by using intratypic recombinants. The deleted strain HFEM (HSV-1) induces suppression. The MluI DNA fragment (coordinates 0.7615–0.796 m.u.) derived from the antibody inducing strain F1 (HSV-1) was transfected into the deleted strain HFEM to produce the recombinant virus R-MlCI and shown to restore antibody formation, as demonstrated by neutralization- and ELISA-tests.
