Synthesis and antiviral activity of scopadulane-rearranged diterpenes.
2009
A new bioactive diterpene skeleton resulting from a backbone rearrangement is described. Activity of the rearranged product and several derivatives against Herpes Virus Simplex type 2 is reported.
Contribution à l’étude de la fraction insaponifiable de trois huiles d’olive issues des variétés Guasto, Rougette et Blanquette plantés dans l’est al…
2010
The sterol profile of three Algerian virgin olive oils produced from Guasto, Blanquette and Rougette cultivar’s, varieties grown in the East of the country, was established by gas chromatography using a flame ionization detector and coupled to mass spectrometry. Four sterol compounds were identified and characterized in the three oils which are, sitosterol always predominant (43-66%), delta 5-avenasterol (8-13%), stigmasterol (≤ 1,5%) and campesterol (1-2%); one methyl sterol (4-methylsterol) : citrostadienol (4-7%) and two triterpenic alcohols : 24-methylene cycloartanol (10-33%) and cycloartenol (3-13%). These results vary according to campany and variety. Our study shows that most of the…
Sterol Composition in Infant Formulas and Estimated Intake.
2015
Sterol contents in infant formulas (IFs) from the European market were determined, and their intakes by infants between 0 and 6 months were evaluated. Total animal sterols (mg/100 mL) ranged from 1.71 to 5.46, cholesterol being the main animal sterol (1.46-5.1). In general, cholesterol and desmosterol were lower than the human milk (HM) values indicated by other authors. Total plant sterol (mg/100 mL) ranged from 3.1 to 5.0. β-Sitosterol, the most abundant phytosterol, ranged from 1.82 to 3.01, followed by campesterol (0.72-1.15), stigmasterol (0.27-0.53), and brassicasterol (0.14-0.28). Cholesterol intake (mg/day) ranged from 9 to 51 and plant sterol intake (mg/day) from 19 to 50. The ster…

Methane-derived carbonate conduits from the late Aptian of Salinac (Marne Bleues, Vocontian Basin, France): Petrology and biosignatures
2015
Abstract Peculiar carbonate bodies occur in distinct marl layers of the Marnes Bleues Formation (Aptian–Albian, Vocontian Basin, Southern France). The carbonate conduits exhibit pipe- or sausage-like forms and a central channel. Their sizes range between 30 and 60 cm in length and 5–10 cm in diameter. The conduit carbonates consist of automicrite authigenically formed within the sediment. Millimeter-sized aggregates of framboidal pyrite are abundant within the conduit automicrites, probably representing former colonies of sulfate reducing bacteria. The central channel reflects former pathways of reduced fluids in the carbonate conduit. Ni-enrichments at the margins of the central cavity are…
Pesticide Effects on Eel Metabolism
1995
Previous works on endosulfan eel toxicology in this laboratory demonstrated that 0.041 mg/liter of endosulfan was the 50% lethal concentration of 96 hr exposure. Eels of species Anguilla anguilla were exposed to two sublethal endosulfan concentrations: 8.2 μg/liter (1/5 LC50) and 4.1 μg/liter (1/10 LC50), and the experiment was done at different exposure times: 12, 24, 48, 72, and 96 hr. Muscle glycogen content decreased significantly (P < 0.05) at 24, 48, 72, and 96 hr exposure to 8.2 μg/liter pesticide; levels did not decline at any time when animals were exposed to 4.1 μg/liter. Muscle lactate levels in fish did not change significantly while lactate levels in eel blood increased at 12, …
Efficient differentiation of embryonic stem cells into mesodermal precursors by BMP, retinoic acid and Notch signalling
2012
The ability to direct differentiation of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells into specific lineages not only provides new insights into the pathways that regulate lineage selection but also has translational applications, for example in drug discovery. We set out to develop a method of differentiating ES cells into mesodermal cells at high efficiency without first having to induce embryoid body formation. ES cells were plated on a feeder layer of PA6 cells, which have membrane-associated stromal-derived inducing activity (SDIA), the molecular basis of which is currently unknown. Stimulation of ES/PA6 co-cultures with Bone Morphogenetic Protein 4 (BMP4) both favoured self-renewal of ES cells and…
