Epistemic uses of the pretérito pluscuamperfecto in La Paz Spanish

This paper explores epistemic-evidential uses of the pluperfect, i.e. pretérito pluscuamperfecto, in La Paz Spanish. The pretérito pluscuamperfecto displays functions of a reported evidential form, conforming to results from previous studies on Argentinian Spanish (Bermúdez 2008; Speranza 2014) and, furthermore, is used according to a previously unnoticed inferential evidential function. Using theoretical frameworks from Kockelman (1957) and Bergqvist (2018), this paper describes the configuration of participant roles and event types implied in the different evidential functions of the pretérito pluscuamperfecto.

Institutions and educators are massively and uncritically integrating digital curricular materials in their teaching praxis. This article aims to uncover whether health and fitness APP images convey or legitimize stereotypes linked to bodies, focusing on gender, race, somatotype and physical activity practice. We also analyse whether these apps are adequate for the recommended age or whether they are designed by physical education professionals. For that purpose, we designed a descriptive, comparative study based on content analysis on a sample of 373 images from 128 apps selected through a PRISMA review and a pilot test. In retrospective radon measurements, the 22-y half life of 210Pb is used as an advantage. 210Pb is often considered to be relatively immobile in glass after alpha recoil implanted by 222Rn progenies. The diffusion of 210Pb could, however, lead to uncertain wrong retrospective radon exposure estimations if 210Pb is mobile and can escape from glass, or lost as a result of cleaning-induced surface modification. This diffusion was studied by a radiotracer technique, where 209Pb was used as a tracer in a glass matrix for which the elemental composition is known. Weeds are usually considered as harmful for crops but they are essential for biodiversity. Indicators were already developed using the model FLORSYS (Colbach et al., 2014) to evaluate the cropping system in term of harmfullness or benefits related to weed flora. We thus propose a new indicator to evaluate the potential of pesticide retention by weed flora and its impact on pesticide transfer into the environment. The indicator is divided in two parts i) herbicide application efficiency (herbicides interception by weeds), ii) plant uptake for the others pesticides. The author carries out a comparative analysis of Wacław Berents “Winter Crop” (Ozimina) and Thomas Manns “The Magic Mountain” (Der Zauberberg). Although the two compared novels are of different historical and cultural backgrounds, she shows things that they have in common. The analysis does not concentrate on the interrelations that were realised at the time but on tracking down the sources of the two writers’ imagination, intellectual fascinations, disturbing similarities (and obvious differences) that led to building up the world they created and also in the finesse of their language.
