Testing a portable laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy system on geological samples.
2012
9 pages; International audience; This paper illustrates the potentialities of a home-made portable LIBS (laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy) instrument in Earth sciences, more particularly in geochemically recognizing (i) tephra layers in lacustrine sediments and (ii) fossilization processes in ammonites. Abundances for selected lines of Al, Ca, Fe, Ti, Ba and Na were determined in lacustrine chalk sediments of the Jura, where the Laacher See Tephra (LST) layer is recorded. A statistical treatment of elemental maps produced from the section of a sedimentary column containing the LST event allows instrumental conditions to be optimized. Accumulating spectra from close shot positions gives …

IL CASO STUDIO DI ALCUNE PGM: IMPLICAZIONI PER LE SPECIE DI LEPIDOTTERI NON BERSAGLIO NELLE AREE PROTETTE SICILIANE
2012
Daugule K. (2015). Matemātiskās spēles trigonometrijas satura apguvē. Maģistra darbs. Rīga: Latvijas Universitāte. – 54.lpp., 16.att., 1.tab., 29.bibliogr. nos. latviešu, angļu un vācu valodā. Darbs sastāv no ievada, 5 daļām, secinājumiem un 22 pielikumiem.
Equivalent detector models for the simulation of efficiency response of an HPGe detector with PENELOPE code
2019
Monte Carlo simulation of response of an HPGe detector is a widely used technique to evaluate counting efficiencies. It is particularly useful when calibration standards with the same shape and composition of the sample under examination are not available. The result of the simulation depends on the more or less detailed knowledge of the characteristics of the detector, able to define a "model" of the same detector. To highlight parts not well defined in the manufacturer's certification, a detector X-ray analysis is usually performed, except in cases when it is not possible to dismantle the shielding structure with the loss of previous calibration data. In this work, in absence of some data…
Autoregulation of NFATc1/A Expression Facilitates Effector T Cells to Escape from Rapid Apoptosis
2002
AbstractThreshold levels of individual NFAT factors appear to be critical for apoptosis induction in effector T cells. In these cells, the short isoform A of NFATc1 is induced to high levels due to the autoregulation of the NFATc1 promoter P1 by NFATs. P1 is located within a CpG island in front of exon 1, represents a DNase I hypersensitive chromatin site, and harbors several sites for binding of inducible transcription factors, including a tandemly arranged NFAT site. A second promoter, P2, before exon 2, is not controlled by NFATs and directs synthesis of the longer NFATc1/B+C isoforms. Contrary to other NFATs, NFATc1/A is unable to promote apoptosis, suggesting that NFATc1/A enhances eff…
PTHrP in differentiating human mesenchymal stem cells: Transcript isoform expression, promoter methylation, and protein accumulation
2013
Human PTHrP gene displays a complex organization with nine exons producing diverse mRNA variants due to alternative splicing at 5' and 3' ends and the existence of three different transcriptional promoters (P1, P2 and P3), two of which (P2 and P3) contain CpG islands. It is known that the expression of PTHrP isoforms may be differentially regulated in a developmental stage- and tissue-specific manner. To search for novel molecular markers of stemness/differentiation, here we have examined isoform expression in fat-derived mesenchymal stem cells both maintained in stem conditions and induced toward adipo- and osteogenesis. In addition, the expression of the splicing isoforms derived from P2 …
Comparative architectural aspects of regions of conserved synteny on human chromosome 11p15.3 and mouse chromosome 7 (including genes WEE1 and LMO1)
2001
Human chromosome 11p15.3 is associated with chromosome aberrations in the Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome and implicated in the pathogenesis of different tumor types including lung cancer and leukemias. To date, only single tumor-relevant genes with linkage to this region (e.g. LMO1) have been found suggesting that this region may harbor additional potential disease associated genes. Although this genomic area has been studied for years, the exact order of genes/chromosome markers between D11S572 and the WEE1 gene locus remained unclear. Using the FISH technique and PAC clones of the flanking markers we determined the order of the genomic markers. Based on these clones we established a PAC cont…
Novel NG2-CreERT2 knock-in mice demonstrate heterogeneous differentiation potential of NG2 glia during development
2014
NG2 (nerve/glia antigen-2) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein and also known as chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4. In the parenchyma of the central nervous system, NG2-expressing (NG2(+) ) cells have been identified as a novel type of glia with a strong potential to generate oligodendrocytes (OLs) in the developing white matter. However, the differentiation potential of NG2 glia remained controversial, largely attributable to shortcomings of transgenic mouse models used for fate mapping. To minimize these restrictions and to more faithfully mimic the endogenous NG2 expression in vivo, we generated a mouse line in which the open reading frame of the tamoxifen-inducible form of the Cre D…
