Zoimem esot skumji, ka Merķelis nolēmis atteikties no medicīnas. Viņš norāda, ka Merķeļa “dzīves instruments” esot nedaudz noskaņojies. Merķelim esot jārūpējas, lai viņš justos labi un būtu apmierināts ar dzīvi. Grass saņēmis Merķeļa vēstuli dienā, kad uzzinājis par sava tēva nāvi. Merķelis bieži pieminēts Grasa un viņa drauga J. V. Krauzes (Krause) sarunās. Viņa grāmata [„Die Letten“], ko Krauze iedevis lasīt, pārspējot visas cerības. Kamēr Merķelis ir Vācijā, Grass vēlētos to aicināt viesos pie viņa uz Šveici. Grass paskaidro, kāpēc pametis Vidzemi. Autora rokraksts. Zontāgs raksta Merķelim pēc tam, kad pirms trim mēnešiem saņēmis manuskripta „Latvieši” [Die Letten, vorzüglich in Liefland, am Ende des philosophischen Jahrhunderts. Ein Beytrag zur Völker- und Menschenkunde, Leipzig 1797] ievadu. Rakstītājs saprot, ka no viņa sprieduma par manuskriptu būs atkarīgs Merķeļa viedoklis par Zontāgu. Viņš Merķelim pateicas par draudzīgo delikātumu – par to, ka tas viņu nekompromitē ar sadarbību pie Merķeļa darba. Zontāgs pilsonisku un morālu apsvērumu dēļ atturas no līdzdalības, jo katrs drīkstot un varot to, ko tā stāvoklis pieļaujot. Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy System Validation for Simultaneous EEG-FNIRS Measurements

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) applied to brain monitoring has been gaining increasing relevance in the last years due to its not invasive nature and the capability to work in combination with other well–known techniques such as the EEG. The possible use cases span from neural-rehabilitation to early diagnosis of some neural diseases. In this work a wireline FPGA–based fNIRS system, that use SiPM sensors and dual-wavelength LED sources, has been designed and validated to work with a commercial EEG machine without reciprocal interference.

BACKGROUND The aim was to evaluate the impact of early pregnancy events and complications as predictors of adverse obstetric outcome. METHODS We conducted a literature review on the impact of first trimester complications in previous and index pregnancies using Medline and Cochrane databases covering the period 1980-2008. In a prospective, randomized, blinded trial we have studied the effects of resuscitation upon oxygenation in a group of asphyxiated newly born infants receiving room air or 100% oxygen as the gas source. During the acute phase of asphyxia and until the resuscitation procedure concluded, we determined serial blood gases as well as reduced and oxidized glutathione, enzymes involved in the glutathione redox cycle, and antioxidant enzyme activities. The use of 100% oxygen caused a remarkable increase of partial pressures of oxygen in arterial blood, with values that were frequently above physiological levels (>100 mm Hg). Maģistra darbs rakstīts latviešu valodā uz 28 lapām, satur 18 attēlus un 84 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis: izpētīt, kā mainās redzes asums fotopiskos apstākļos salīdzinot ar mezopiskiem apstākļiem un apstākļos, kad uz dalībnieku tiek izstarota automašīnas luktura gaisma. Metode: uzdevumā redzes asums tika noteikts FrACT programmā uz datora ekrāna. Tests sastāv no baltiem Landolta gredzena optotipiem uz melna fona. Redzes asums tika salīdzināts fotopiskos, mezopiskos un no automašīnas luktura izstarotā ksenona un halogēnās spuldzes apgaismojuma apstākļos.
