Opioid switching from and to tapentadol extended release in cancer patients: conversion ratio with other opioids

Objectives: The aim of this exploratory study was to assess the conversion ratios between tapentadol and other opioids in patients requiring an opioid switching. Methods: A prospective study was carried out in a convenience sample of consecutive patients admitted to an acute palliative care unit and a home care unit for a period of 1 year. Patients who were switched from/to tapentadol were selected. The initial ratio between tapentadol and other opioids, expressed as oral morphine equivalents was 1:3.3. [EN] An in situ electrochemical contact probe methodology for characterising tomato samples is proposed. It is based on the record of the voltammetric response of antioxidant compounds when glassy carbon electrodes are inserted into the pericarp of fresh tomato specimens cut in half. The absence of pretreatment and in situ sampling avoid sample contamination and the oxidation of air-sensitive compounds thus increasing the representativity of the analytical data relative to conventional electrochemical analysis. Atherosclerosis development is accelerated in chronic renal failure (CRF) and is the major cause of death in this clinical condition. An increased oxidative stress and an endothelial dysfunction, with their complex interrelationships, are relevant aspects of atherogenesis in CRF patients and might be targets for treatment. Many studies have underlined the cardiovascular protection provided by a moderate wine consumption. Abstract Three phenolic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds: 7-methylaromadendrin, isoprenylhydroquinone glucoside, and 3.5-dicaffeoylquinic acid methyl ester, all isolated from Western Mediterranean Asteraceae species, have been studied for their inhibitory activity against protein carbonylation, a harmful post-translational modification of peptide chains associated with degenerative diseases. All compounds have proven to be effective, with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) values in the micromolar range, against bovine serum albumin carbonylation caused by hypochlorite, peroxynitrite, and phorbol ester-induced leukocyte oxidative burst.

Ten new compounds, eight of them pimarane derivatives (1-8), together with a menthane dimer (9) and a totarane diterpenoid (10), were isolated from the leaves and wood of Tetraclinis articulata. The structures of 1-10 were established by using spectroscopic techniques, including 2D NMR spectra. Abstract Background Viability in a non dividing state is referred to as chronological life span (CLS). Most grape juice fermentation happens when Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast cells have stopped dividing; therefore, CLS is an important factor toward winemaking success. Results We have studied both the physical and chemical determinants influencing yeast CLS. Low pH and heat shorten the maximum wine yeast life span, while hyperosmotic shock extends it. Ethanol plays an important negative role in aging under winemaking conditions, but additional metabolites produced by fermentative metabolism, such as acetaldehyde and acetate, have also a strong impact on longevity. Biosorption of green and black tea polyphenols into Saccharomyces cerevisiae improves their bioaccessibility

Infusions of green tea (GT) and black tea (BT) and the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a natural matrix were employed to check the impact of biosorption on the possible fate of tea polyphenols in the gastrointestinal tract in terms of bioaccessibility and total antioxidant capacity (TEAC and ORAC assays). The maximum biosorption yields obtained were 47.61 ± 11.57 and 99.68 ± 5.25 mg/g from GT and BT infusions, respectively. A significant increase (p < 0.05) in the recovery of phenolic compounds was shown after in vitro digestion.
