A study of thin surface layers by multilayer Mössbauer spectroscopy /MMS/

1990

A stacking Mossbauer technique, MMS has been applied for studying thin surface layers. The surface layers formed on the57Fe film in aqueous solutions of corrosion inhibitors, such as zinc phosphate and barium metaborate, and in distilled water was studied by this method. It has been found that the corrosion is much slower in the presence of zinc phosphate and barium metaborate. XPS analysis suggests the formation of a mixed iron zinc phosphate on the surface of the57Fe film after corrosion in a zinc phosphate solution.

Mesoporous iron phosphate/phosphonate hybrid materials

2014

Abstract Relatively high surface area pure mesoporous iron-phosphorus oxide-based derivatives have been synthesized through an S + I − surfactant-assisted cooperative mechanism by means of a one-pot preparative procedure from aqueous solution and starting from iron atrane complexes and phosphoric and phosphonic acids. A soft chemical extraction procedure allows opening the pore system of the parent as-prepared materials by exchanging the surfactant without mesostructure collapse. The nature of the pore wall can be modulated from iron phosphate up to hybrids involving approximately 30% of organophosphorus entities (phosphonates or diphosphonates). X-ray powder diffraction, transmission elect…

Study of the Chemical Conversion of Aluminum Alloys by Coupling CFDE and EQCM

2004

The ability of the channel flow double electrode (CFDE) technique and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) for studying in situ chromate phosphate conversion coating on 5182 aluminum alloys was explored. It was first demonstrated that aqueous Cr(VI) can be analyzed quantitatively with the CFDE technique by reduction into Cr(III) on a graphite electrode. Samples used for EQCM were quartz plated by physical vapor deposition using a 5182 alloy target, allowing thin layers of aluminum alloys with a similar chemical composition to be obtained. EQCM was adapted in order to account for the hydrodynamic conditions in an industrial process, by placing the quartz in a flow cell. In orde…

Conductimetric study of struvite crystallization in water as a function of pH

2017

Abstract The main objective of this work was to investigate the best pH for phosphorus removal from synthetic aqueous solutions using chemical precipitation of struvite, at constant temperature. The experimental approach, developed in the present study, consisted to precipitate struvite in synthetic wastewater containing PO 4 3− , NH 4 + and Mg 2+ ions in an equal molar ratio, using a stirred tank with continuous monitoring by conductimetry, at 25 °C. Different laboratory experiments were used to evaluate the effects of pH in the range of 8.5 till 11.8, on size, shape, and purity of the precipitated crystals. Struvite crystals were characterized by Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning ele…

Influence of chloride anions on the electrodeposition and electroactivity of the polymer matrix in polypyrrole, poly( N -methylpyrrole) and polypyrro…

2004

We report electrochemical studies on the influence of a small concentration of chloride ions on the electroactivity of the polymer matrix of polypyrrole (PPy), poly(N-methylpyrrole) [p(N-MePy)] and a poly(titanocene-propyl-pyrrole) derivative, p(Tc3Py) [Tc(CH2)3NC4H4; Tc=CpCp′TiCl2; Cp=C5H5; Cp′=C5H4] in acetonitrile (AN), tetrahydrofuran (THF) and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). The polymer films were obtained on Pt disc electrodes from AN solutions of the monomers containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6) as the supporting electrolyte and then transferred to the corresponding monomer-free solution. Studies in Cl−-containing solutions have shown that the p(Tc3Py) matrix…

Synthesis, characterization and thermal behavior of nine new -type quaternary ammonium tetrafluoroborate or hexafluorophosphate salts prepared by met…

2008

Abstract Nine new quaternary ammonium tetrafluoroborate or hexafluoroborate salts were prepared from analogous bromide or chloride salts using anion exchange reaction in which the corresponding bromide or chloride salt was treated with HBF4 or HPF6 acid in aqueous solutions. The characterizations were performed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as by elemental analysis. The single crystals of three tetrafluoroborate and two hexafluorophosphate salts were obtained by slow evaporation from a methanol/ethyl acetate solution and the crystal structures were determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Four of the compounds crystallized in the orthorhombic and one in the monoclinic cr…

The biomaterial polyphosphate blocks stoichiometric binding of the SARS-CoV-2 S-protein to the cellular ACE2 receptor

2020

The effect of the polyanionic polymer of inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) involved in innate immunity on the binding of the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein to the cellular ACE2 receptor was studied. The RBD surface comprises a basic amino acid stretch of four arginine residues which interact with the physiological polyP (polyP40) and polyP3. Subsequently, the interaction of RBD with ACE2 is sensitively inhibited. After the chemical modification of arginine, an increased inhibition by polyP, at a 1 : 1 molar ratio (polyP : RBP), is measured already at 0.1 μg mL−1. Heparin was ineffective. The results suggest a potential therapeutic benefit of polyP against SARS-C…

Cationic Mn12 Single-Molecule Magnets and Their Polyoxometalate Hybrid Salts

2003

A carboxy-substituted alkylammonium salt, namely, (4-carboxybenzyl)tributylammonium hexafluorophosphate, ZHPF(6), was prepared and used as incoming carboxylate ligand in a ligand-exchange reaction with [Mn(12)O(12)(O(2)CCH(3))(16)(H(2)O)(4)] (1) to afford a new Mn(12) single-molecule magnet (SMM), [Mn(12)O(12)(Z)(16)(H(2)O)(4)][PF(6)](16) (2), bearing 16 cationic units appended in the periphery. This compound behaves as a single-molecule magnet, exhibiting an out-of-phase ac magnetic susceptibility chi' '(M) signal that shows a single maximum in the 3.1-5.4 K temperature range. The frequency dependence of the maximum follows an Arrhenius law, with an effective energy barrier for reorientati…

The influence of electron delocalization upon the stability and structure of potential N-heterocyclic carbene precursors with 1,3-diaryl-imidazolidin…

2010

Targeting N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) with increased π-acceptor character featuring N-fluorophenyl substituents, the molecular 2-chloro-1,3-bis(fluorophenyl)imidazolidine-4,5-diones (1a–c) were isolated from the condensation of the corresponding formamidine with oxalyl chloride. These formal adducts of NHCs with hydrogen chloride demonstrated reactivity akin to that of alkyl halides: 1,3,1′,3′-tetrakis(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-[2,2′]diimidazolidinyl-4,5,4′,5′-tetraone (2b) was formed via the reductive coupling of 1b, while 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-4,5-dioxoimidazolidin-2-yl acetate (3c) was formed as the result of a metathesis reaction with mercury(II) acetate. Chloride abstraction resu…
