Apicomplexan parasites encompass several human- and animal-pathogenic protozoans such as Plasmodium falciparum, Toxoplasma gondii, and Eimeria tenella. E. tenella causes coccidiosis, a disease that afflicts chickens, leading to tremendous economic losses to the global poultry industry. The considerable increase in drug resistance makes it necessary to develop new therapeutic strategies against this parasite. Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) are key molecules in cell-cycle regulation and are therefore prominent target proteins in parasitic diseases. Abstract The FT-MIR/FT-FIR and NIR-FT-Raman spectra of orthorhombic α -Zn 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ·4H 2 O (α-hopeite) and monoclinic Zn 2 Fe(PO 4 ) 2 ·4H 2 O (phosphophyllite), including deuterated samples, have been measured in the polycrystalline state at room temperature and below. The distribution of vibrational levels was related to the results of complete unit-cell group analyses. The number of uncoupled OD stretching modes of α-hopeite (isotopically dilute samples) strongly exceeds that expected from the number of hydrogen positions of the structure reported. AbstractTriosephosphate Isomerase is a glycolytic enzyme catalyzing the interconversion of Dihydroxyacetone phosphate to Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. The active site is comprised of three distinct loops loop-6, loop-7 and loop-8. Based on loop-6 and loop-7 conformation we describe the enzyme as Open TIM and Closed TIM. Various NMR, X-ray crystallography and QM/MM simulation techniques have provided glimpses of individual events of what is essentially a dynamic process. Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) is a key contributor to the morbidity and mortality after allogeneic hematopoetic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Regulatory Foxp3(+) CD4(+) T cells (Treg) suppress conventional T cell activation and can control GvHD. In our previous work, we demonstrate that a basic mechanism of Treg mediated suppression occurs by the transfer of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) to responder cells. ABSTRACT The detection of Listeria monocytogenes from food is currently carried out using a double enrichment. For the ISO methodology, this double enrichment is performed using half-Fraser and Fraser broths, in which the overgrowth of L. innocua can occur in samples where both species are present. In this study, we analyzed the induction of phages and phage tails of Listeria spp. in these media and in two brain heart infusion (BHI) broths (BHIM [bioMérieux] and BHIK [Biokar]) to identify putative effectors. Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory process of the pancreatic gland that eventually may lead to a severe systemic inflammatory response. A key event in pancreatic damage is the intracellular activation of NF-κB and zymogens, involving also calcium, cathepsins, pH disorders, autophagy, and cell death, particularly necrosis.
