Augmented reality (AR) picturebooks combine printed children's literature with augmented reality. This study examines the shared reading of the Finnish AR picturebook Mur, eli karhu (2016) by Kaisa Happonen and Anne Vasko. The main aim of the study is to explore the playful reading experience of three Finnish families with children between the ages of 4 and 6. Three main categories of engagement with the book are discussed in the article: interpretation, negotiation, and play. The paper reports the initial findings of the first phase of the research and development project PICCORE – Picture Communication in Reception Centres. The goal was to map the use of pictures and other visual modes of communication at reception centres in Finland using an ethnographic, multimodal research approach. Self-depiction of feminine authors conveys something original in a field where it usually is a way to express a private fantasy. From feminist comics of the 70s to the most recent porn comics, authors’ bodies are not sex objects anymore, they are the subject of a narration. Self-depiction is a new material for porn-comics and gives sincerity to the stories, it may be a way to express political views. Pētījums reaģē uz galējās interpretācijas problemātiku un ierosina skatīt Čārlza Pīrsa zīmju teoriju kā instrumentu, kas ļauj analizēt nozīmes radīšanas un interpretācijas procesualitāti noteiktas situācijas un kultūras kontekstā. Tiek pētīti četri atšķirīgi attēlu gadījumi (Hilma af Klinta, Sajs Tvomblijs, Gerhards Rihters un Vija Celmiņa), piemērojot mainīgos konteksta lielumus un Pīrsa zīmju klasifikācijas.
