Intégrer des informations en escamots dans les textes techniques : quels effets sur les processus cognitifs ?
1998
Though computerized sytems now offer a wide range of options for accessing and displaying text or text-picture information, little is known about their effects on the user's cognitive processes. In this paper, we investigate the effect of a computer-specific display (pop-up window) which consists in displaying some pieces of information in windows that appear only under user's action. Experiments were carried out to compare the pop-up window device with other devices used on paper. The experiments dealt with text only as well as text-picture documents and involved various tasks. Results are discussed from a theoretical and a practical point of view.

Sense of quality of life and self-discrepancy - differences between social science and technology students
2020
The main purpose of the research is to determine personality predictors related to a new model of the sense of quality of life in a diverse group of students. The study is based on the self-discrepancy theory developed by Higgins, and the Personality and Axiological Model developed by Mróz. Method. Sixty four (64) pedagogy students and 62 electrical engineering students were the subjects of the research. The Adjective Check List test (ACL), the Modified Quality of Life Questionnaire as well as interview and observation were applied in the research. Results. Individuals with low self-discrepancy achieved significantly better results in Competences, Relationships, and Autonomy as part of the …
Highmann's Theorem on Discrete Sets
2006
In this paper we investigate properties of different classes of discrete sets with respect to the partial-order of subpicture. In particular we take in consideration the classes of convex polyominoes and L-convex polyominoes. In the first part of the paper we study closure properties of these classes with respect the order and we give a new characterization of L-convex polyominoes. In the second part we pose the question to extend Higman’s theoremto discrete sets. We give a negative answer in the general case and we prove that the set of L-convex polyominoes is well-partially-ordered by using a representation of L-convex polyominoes in terms of words of a regular language.
Three Halves of a Whole : Redefining East and West in UNESCO’s East-West Major Project 1957-1966
2017

In 1946 Julian Huxley, UNESCO’s rst Director-General, suggested that two opposing philosophies of life were confronting each other from the East and the West, setting the focus on the cultural aspect of this polarisation and de ning the possibility of an East- West conflict as the main threat to world peace. A decade later, in 1957, UNESCO launched The Major Project on the Mutual Appreciation of Eastern and Western Cultural Values to promote its ideas of intercultural understanding as a means to maintaining peace. The core concepts of the Project, East and West, were not strictly defined. Here East and West, as concepts, fit Reinhart Koselleck’s definition of Grundbegri…

Językowy obraz świata w dolnośląskich oronimach pochodzących od nazw roślin i zwierząt
2019
The subject matter of analysis is oronyms, i.e. the names of mountains and hills deriving from the names of plants and animals. The names of mountains can perform the function of localization (a relation between an object and the toponym), characterization (the topographic character of an object, the shape of an object, the quality of substrate, the fauna and flora in an area), they can express the relation between an object and a man (possessive names) and they can be a reflection of material or spiritual culture. Names deriving from the names of flora and fauna are predominantly created on the basis of metonymy which makes use of the contiguity principle, replacing objects with the names …
Grzech pierworodny w kontekście ewolucyjnego obrazu świata
2021
Modern science portrays the genesis of man as just another link in the chain of evolution - first cosmic and then biological evolution. In such a worldview there is no place for a Garden ofEden or a miraculously innocent couple. Also, violence, suffering and death have accompanied humanity from the very beginning. The aim ofthis paper is to show that the Christian doctrine oforiginal sin does not conflict with the scientific worldview, provided, however, that it is properly understood. Within the evolutionary model ofthe world, original sin can be defined as the refusal to take a certain step that at some point should have been taken and that was made possible by Gods call. The failure to …
Ergonomie des documents techniques informatisés : expériences et recommandations sur l'utilisation des organisateurs para-linguistiques
1998
Despite an increasing development, the design of computerized documents is still based on intuitive or esthetics concerns, rather than on experimental evidence. However a large body of literature has investigated the effects of various display factors, both on a perceptual and on a cognitive level. We propose here a review of research and its implication on the design of computerized documents.
