Neutrino oscillation studies with IceCube-DeepCore

2016

IceCube, a gigaton-scale neutrino detector located at the South Pole, was primarily designed to search for astrophysical neutrinos with energies of PeV and higher. This goal has been achieved with the detection of the highest energy neutrinos to date. At the other end of the energy spectrum, the DeepCore extension lowers the energy threshold of the detector to approximately 10 GeV and opens the door for oscillation studies using atmospheric neutrinos. An analysis of the disappearance of these neutrinos has been completed, with the results produced being complementary with dedicated oscillation experiments. PINGU: a vision for neutrino and particle physics at the South Pole

The Precision IceCube Next Generation Upgrade (PINGU) is a proposed low-energy in-fill extension to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. With detection technology modeled closely on the successful IceCube example, PINGU will provide a 6Mton effective mass for neutrino detection with an energy threshold of a few GeV. With an unprecedented sample of over 60,000 atmospheric neutrinos per year in this energy range, PINGU will make highly competitive measurements of neutrino oscillation parameters in an energy range over an order of magnitude higher than long-baseline neutrino beam experiments. Alpu kreimules herbāriji Latvijas Universitātes Muzejā

1922

Alpu kreimule Pinguicula alpina L. ir rets augs, kurš šobrīd vairs nav sastopams Latvijas flora. Tā vienīgā dabīgā augtene bija uz Staburaga Daugavas krastā. Pļaviņu HES būvniecibas rezultātā tā tika iznīcināta. Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja herbārijā Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās glabājas šā auga herbāriji gan no Latvijas, gan Igaunijas. Šeit atrodas gan senākais ievāktais herbārijs uz Staburaga, gan pēdējais, kas tika šeit ievākts 1961. gadā.

LU Muzeja Botānikas un mikoloģiju kolekciju herbārijā glabājas vairāki alpu kreimules herbāriji, kas ievākti gan Igaunijā, gan Latvijā. Auga vienīgā dabiskā augtene Latvijā bija Staburags, kas tika apludināts līdz ar HES būvniecību. Vēlākos gados tā bija atrodama arī Raunas Staburagā. Alpu kreimules paraugi LU Muzejā glabājas Herbarium Latvicum (RIG II), Herbarium Balticum (RIG I), Herbarium Lakshewitzi (RIG III) un Jāņa Ilstera herbārijā. Herbarium Latvicum glabājas pēdējais uz Staburaga Botāniķes Gaidas Ābeles (dz. 1931. gadā) ievāktais paraugs.
