P-56LOCAL BLOCKADE OF THE MU OPIOID RECEPTOR REVEALS THE DUAL MOTOR EFFECT OF ETHANOL IN pVTA

2015

Previous electrophysiological and behavioral data have revealed the existence of ethanol opposite effects (excitatory and inhibitory) on the posterior ventral tegmental area (pVTA) dopamine (DA) neurons activity. These activating and depressing effects of ethanol could be the result of two concurrent and opposing mechanisms, one increasing and the other reducing GABA release …

Heroic memory and polis: Achilles and Athens in Zosimus’ Historia Nova

2013

At the time when most people believe in the intercession of the holy man to save the city from barbarians or natural disasters, heroic memory still seems to be venerated by the last pagans. Two passages from Zosimus’ Historia Nova (IV 18 and V 6) tell us how Achilles saved Athens. The first time, the city was spared the earthquake that devastated much of Greece during the empire of Valens; the second time, the city was preserved from Alaric’ ravages in 396-397, thanks to the supernatural precence of Athena Promachos too. These events, told only by Zosimus, are of great importance in the historian’ view, according to whom the neglect of Roman ancestral religion brought about the decline of th…

Opioid epidemic spread from Northern and Eastern Europe to Mediterranean Area.

2021

The addiction to illicit opioid and the misuse of prescription synthetic opioids pain relievers and fentanyl analogs generated an opioid epidemic in North America over the last two decades that affected public health with a constantly rising number of overdoses deaths. This health treat moved to Europe with a significant increase starting from 2015 involving mainly norther and eastern countries and finally also the Mediterranean area. The "lock down" isolation and economic recession caused by COVID-19 pandemic showed a resurgence in opioid use and harms.

Breakthrough Pain (BTP) in Opioid-Tolerant Cancer Patients: A Pan-European Open-Label Multicentre Study with Fentanyl Buccal Tablet (FBT)

2012

ABSTRACT BTP, a transitory exacerbation of pain that occurs on a background of otherwise controlled persistent pain, is a common problem in cancer patients. FBT is indicated for the treatment of BTP in adults with cancer already receiving maintenance opioid therapy for chronic cancer pain and should be titrated to an effective dose that provides adequate analgesia and minimises undesirable events. In this study, patients entered a screening period and were randomized during an open-label titration period to a starting FBT dose of 100 µg (group A) or 200 µg (group B) to identify the FBT effective dose and then treated in an open-label period (for 8 BTP episodes). Patients' inclusion followed…

2p-shell admixtures in pion single charge exchange on 13C

1991

Abstract The pion charge exchange process 13 C (π + , π 0 ) 13 N(gs) is calculated with an extended nuclear wave function for the A=13 system that includes configurations outside the 1p-shell. A small amount of 2p-shell admixtures leads to an improved description of the experimental excitation function. We also find a strong sensitivity of the differential cross sections as well as asymmetry to contributions from higher shells.

Analyse de l'activité de glaciéristes dans une perspective de conception de matériel de progression pour l'escalade et la montagne : contribution à l…

2015

The aim of the present thesis is twofold: first, it gives an overview onice climbers’ activity, based on an enactive empirical research program of cognitive anthropology, while developing a technological research program toevaluate appropriation situations and perspectives for design. The first part of this work focuses on the link between innovation and practice while identifying the relationship between the climbers and the technical object in order to build a technological research program focusing on the appropriation of objects. The second part is an epistemic work inculding two steps: a) to produce knowledge on the mediation role of ice axes for novice climbers and b) to develop desig…

Counter anion binding in the phenoxyimine, salan and metallocene olefin polymerization catalysts activated with perfluorophenylborate

2012

Abstract Ion pair separation is a process that may influence the activity of homogeneous catalysts of olefin polymerization. We have studied the energy of separation for selected titanium and zirconium metallocene and post-metallocene catalytic ion pairs by means of DFT, dispersion-corrected DFT and Paired Interacting Orbitals method (PIO). Unusually weak cation–anion interactions in the bis(phenoxyimine) systems were attributed to strong electron-donating properties of the phenoxyimine ligands. Energy decomposition analysis (EDA) revealed that almost 70% of the counter ion binding energy results from electrostatic interactions. The PIO method made it possible to analyze the nature of the c…
