Changes in the Peripheral Endocannabinoid System as a Risk Factor for the Development of Eating Disorders

2017

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Eating Disorder (ED) is characterized by persistently and severely disturbed eating behaviours. They arise from a combination of long-standing behavioural, emotional, psychological, interpersonal, and social factors and result in insufficient nutrient ingestion and/or adsorption. The three main EDs are: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. We review the role of peripheral endocannabinoids in eating behaviour. DISCUSSION The neuronal pathways involved in feeding behaviours are closely related to catecholaminergic, serotoninergic and peptidergic systems. Accordingly, feeding is promoted by serotonin, dopamine, and prostaglandin and inhibited b…

Pain-induced alterations in the dynorphinergic system within the mesocorticolimbic pathway: Implication for alcohol addiction.

2020

Latest studies have revealed that pain negatively impacts on reward processing and motivation leading to negative affective states and stress. These states not only reduce quality of life of patients by increasing the appearance of psychiatric comorbidities, but also have an important impact on vulnerability to drug abuse, including alcohol. In fact, clinical, epidemiological but also preclinical studies have revealed that the presence of pain is closely related to alcohol use disorders (AUDs). All this evidence suggests that pain is a factor that increases the risk of suffering AUD, predicting heavy drinking behavior and relapse drinking in those patients with a previous history of AUD. Th…

Glutamate and opioid antagonists modulate dopamine levels evoked by innately attractive male chemosignals in the nucleus accumbens of female rats

2017

Sexual chemosignals detected by vomeronasal and olfactory systems mediate intersexual attraction in rodents, and act as a natural reinforcer to them. The mesolimbic pathway processes natural rewards, and the nucleus accumbens receives olfactory information via glutamatergic projections from the amygdala. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the involvement of the mesolimbic pathway in the attraction toward sexual chemosignals. Our data show that female rats with no previous experience with males or their chemosignals display an innate preference for male-soiled bedding. Focal administration of the opioid antagonist b-funaltrexamine into the posterior ventral tegmental area does no…

Cutaneous manifestations of polycystic ovary syndrome

2020

Abstract Hirsutism, acne, and/or female pattern hair loss are common cutaneous manifestations of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, while hirsutism is mainly related to androgen excess, both acne and female pattern hair loss may often depend on cutaneous alterations that are not linked to hyperandrogenism or increased androgen sensitivity. Because both acne and female pattern hair loss cannot be considered a sign of hyperandrogenism, neither should be included in the diagnostic process of PCOS without demonstration of increased levels of circulating androgens. In addition, in patients with androgen-dependent acne, the concomitant proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes in skin may …

Human POMC processing in vitro and in vivo revealed by quantitative peptidomics

2018

ABSTRACTHuman obesity can result from the aberrant production or processing of proopiomelanocortin (POMC) in hypothalamic neurons, but it is unclear which human POMC-derived peptides are most relevant to body weight regulation. To address this question, we analysed both hypothalamic neurons derived from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) and primary human hypothalamic tissue using quantitative liquid chromatography tandem mass spectroscopy (LC-MS/MS). In both in vitro- and in vivo-derived samples, we found that POMC was processed into β-melanocyte stimulating hormone (β-MSH), whose existence in the human brain has been controversial. β-MSH and desacetyl α-MSH (d-α-MSH) were produced at ro…

Rho resonance, timelike pion form factor, and implications for lattice studies of the hadronic vacuum polarization

2020

We study isospin-1 P-wave ππ scattering in lattice QCD with two flavors of O(a) improved Wilson fermions. For pion masses ranging from mπ=265 MeV to mπ=437 MeV, we determine the energy spectrum in the center-of-mass frame and in three moving frames. We obtain the scattering phase shifts using Lüscher’s finite-volume quantization condition. Fitting the dependence of the phase shifts on the scattering momentum to a Breit-Wigner form allows us to determine the corresponding ρ mass mρ and gρππ coupling. By combining the scattering phase shifts with the decay matrix element of the vector current, we calculate the timelike pion form factor, Fπ, and compare the results to the Gounaris-Sakurai repr…

Neuvosto-Viron pioneerijärjestön ja Suomen Demokratian Pioneerien Liiton kanssakäyminen liennytyksestä Prahan kevääseen

2011

Oliko pioneeris…

2-cinnamamido, 2-(3-phenylpropiolamido) and 2-(3-phenylpropanamido)benzamides: synthesis, antiproliferative activity and mechanism of action

2013

Several new 2-cinnamamido, 2-(3-phenylpropiolamido) and 2-(3-phenylpropanamido)benzamides were synthesized by stirring in pyridine the opportune acid chlorides with the appropriate anthranilamide derivatives. Some of the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antiproliferative activity against a panel of 5 human cell lines (K562 human chronic myelogenous leukemia cells, MCF-7 breast cancer cells, HTC-116 and HT26 colon cancer cells and NCI H460 non-small cell lung cancer cells).

Anthropometric characteristics and vertical jump abilities by player position and performance level of junior female volleyball players

2021

Although absolute jump heights should be considered an important factor in judging the performance requirements of volleyball players, limited data is available on age-appropriate categories. The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in specific anthropometric characteristics and jumping performance variables in under−19 female volleyball players in relation to playing position and performance level. The sample of subjects consisted of 354 players who prepared for the U19 Women’s Volleyball European Championship 2020 (17.4 ± 0.8 years, 1.81 ± 0.07 m, 67.5 ± 7.1 kg). Playing positions analyzed were setters (n = 55), opposites (n = 37), middle blockers (n = 82), outside hitter…
