Assessment of DEMO WCLL breeding blanket primary heat transfer system isolation valve absorbed doses due to activated water

2020

Abstract Within the framework of the activities foreseen by the EUROfusion action on the cooling water activation assessment for a DEMO reactor equipped with a Water Cooled Lithium Lead Breeding Blanket (WCLL BB), the University of Palermo is involved in the investigation of the absorbed dose induced by the decay of nitrogen radioisotopes produced by water activation, in the main components (e.g. isolation valves) of both First Wall (FW) and Breeder Zone (BZ) cooling circuits. The aim of this work is to assess the spatial distribution of the absorbed dose in the DEMO Upper Pipe Chase (UPC), focusing the attention on the space neighbouring a typical isolation valve of the Primary Heat Transf…

A computational procedure for the investigation of whipping effect on ITER High Energy Piping and its application to the ITER divertor primary heat t…

2015

Abstract The Tokamak Cooling Water System of nuclear facility has the function to remove heat from plasma facing components maintaining coolant temperatures, pressures and flow rates as required and, depending on thermal-hydraulic requirements, its systems are defined as High Energy Piping (HEP) because they contain fluids, such as water or steam, at a pressure greater than or equal to 2.0 MPa and/or at a temperature greater than or equal to 100 °C, or even gas at pressure above the atmospheric one. The French standards contemplate the need to consider the whipping effect on HEP design. This effect happens when, after a double ended guillotine break, the reaction force could create a displa…

Axial dispersion model for solid flow in liquid suspension in system of two mixers in total recycle

2006

The measurement of residence time distribution of solid particles in solid-liquid suspension is experimentally difficult. However, the twin system approach is particularly suited for the assessment of particle RTD in flow systems as it allows overcoming some of the usual difficulties generally encountered in this kind of measurement. Twin system consists of two vessels and external piping in total recycle. Experimental results from this system can be evaluated using Z-transforms to derive particle RTD for subsequent testing of alternative flow models. Recently, the axial dispersion model was applied using the "advection diffusion equation" (sometimes called the"diffusion with bulk flow equa…

Flowers, Water accumulation and Corporate Social Responsibility: Certification of the Production of Roses and Claims for Environmental Justice in Ecu…

2018

EXPRESSION OF PIPPIN PROTEIN AND CELL DIFFERENTIATION.

2008

We previously described a CSD-containing protein that seemed to bind mRNAs encoding histone variants and was present both in the nucleus and in the cytoplasm of specific populations of brain cells. Since other CSD-containing proteins have the ability to interact both with RNA and chromatin, we investigated the possibility that PIPPin binds to chromatin and indeed found that about 50% of nuclear PIPPin cannot be extracted from nuclei with salt and is instead extracted with acid, together with histones. Interestingly, a major fraction of chromatin-bound PIPPin is sumoylated and sumoylation seems to be controlled by thyroid hormones, both in vivo and in vitro. In order to study the functions o…

Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil of Mentha pulegium Growing Wild in Sicily and its Activity on Microorganisms Affecting Historical Art Crafts

2017

The chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of Mentha pulegium L. (Linné) collected in Sicily was evaluated by GC and GC-MS. The main components were pulegone (50.6%), piperitenone (27.8%) and menthone (6.9%). Comparison of this oil with other studied oils of different populations is discussed. The oil showed good antibacterial and antifungal activities against some microorganisms that infest historical art works.

On the zopiclone enantioselective binding to human albumin and plasma proteins. An electrokinetic chromatography approach

2011

In this work, a methodology for the chiral separation of zopiclone (ZPC) by electrokinetic chromatography (EKC) using carboxymethylated-β-cyclodextrin as chiral selector has been developed and applied to the evaluation of the enantioselective binding of ZPC enantiomers to HSA and total plasma proteins. Two mathematical approaches were used to estimate protein binding (PB), affinity constants (K(1)) and enantioselectivity (ES) for both enantiomers of ZPC. Contradictory results in the literature, mainly related to plasma protein binding reported data, suggest that this is an unresolved matter and that more information is needed. Discrepancies and coincidences with previous data are highlighte…

Platform switching on wide-diameter external hex implants: a finite element analysis.

2012

Objectives: The objective of this work was to use finite element analysis to compare the effect of forces coming to bear on abutments 4.1 or 5.0 mm in diameter connected to a 5.0 mm implant (i.e. with or without platform swit - ching). Study design: A 3D CAD model of a 5 x 11.5 mm external hex implant was developed, complete with a connection screw and either of two abutments, one 4.1 and the other 5 mm in diameter, to assess the influence of two loading conditions, i.e. 200 N loaded either axially or off center on the top of the abutment. Results and conclusions: In the symmetrically loaded models, greater stresses were transmitted to the bone in the area below the neck of the implant in t…
