Factor VII Deficiency: Clinical Phenotype, Genotype and Therapy

2017

Factor VII deficiency is the most common among rare inherited autosomal recessive bleeding disorders, and is a chameleon disease due to the lack of a direct correlation between plasma levels of coagulation Factor VII and bleeding manifestations. Clinical phenotypes range from asymptomatic condition—even in homozygous subjects—to severe life-threatening bleedings (central nervous system, gastrointestinal bleeding). Prediction of bleeding risk is thus based on multiple parameters that challenge disease management. Spontaneous or surgical bleedings require accurate treatment schedules, and patients at high risk of severe hemorrhages may need prophylaxis from childhood onwards. The aim of the c…

Adverse Events in Treatment of Inherited Factor VII Deficiency: Final Analysis of the STER

2012

Abstract Abstract 2279 Introduction No evidence-based guidelines are available for the treatment of Factor VII deficiency. Replacement therapy (RT) is still influenced by different factors as rarity of the disorder, availability and supply of products and economic reasons. All RTs are not exempt of side effects and scanty data is available about the safety of the products currently used. Aim of this study was to analyze adverse events (AEs) of RTs for congenital Factor VII deficiency, as reported in Seven Treatment Evaluation Registry (STER). Design and Methods FVII deficiency patients treated for bleeding episodes, prophylaxis, and surgery were investigated for RT-related AEs over a period…

Total Plasma Exchange for the Management of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura in a 13-Year-Old Female – A Case Presentation

2021

Abstract Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare thrombotic microangiopathy, affecting preferentially young women in their fourth decade. Intensive care admission is often required due to organ dysfunction development risk and for specific critical care measures (Plasma Exchange-PEX). In this article, we will discuss our experience with PEX in the treatment of TTP. Case report: A previously healthy 13-year-old female presented with neurological impairment, and suspicion of stroke. The head computed tomography (CT) scan revealed absence of acute intracranian pathology, and biological evaluation displayed severe thrombocytopenia and haemolytic anemia. After 24 hours, the …

Tryptophan immunoadsorption during pregnancy and breastfeeding in patients with acute relapse of multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica.

2017

Background: Up to every fourth woman with multiple sclerosis (MS) or neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) suffers a clinically relevant relapse during pregnancy. High doses of steroids bear some serious risks, especially within the first trimester of pregnancy. Immunoadsorption (IA) is an effective and more selective treatment option in disabling MS relapse than plasma exchange. Data on the use of IA during pregnancy and breastfeeding are scarce. Methods: In this retrospective multicenter study, we analyzed the safety and efficacy of IA treatment in acute relapses during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The primary outcome parameter - change of acute relapse-related disability after IA…

Transitions in a stratified Kolmogorov flow

2016

We study the Kolmogorov flow with weak stratification. We consider a stabilizing uniform temperature gradient and examine the transitions leading the flow to chaotic states. By solving the equations numerically we construct the bifurcation diagram describing how the Kolmogorov flow, through a sequence of transitions, passes from its laminar solution toward weakly chaotic states. We consider the case when the Richardson number (measure of the intensity of the temperature gradient) is $$Ri=10^{-5}$$ , and restrict our analysis to the range $$0<Re<30$$ . The effect of the stabilizing temperature is to shift bifurcation points and to reduce the region of existence of stable drifting states. The…

Oxide or carbide nanoparticles synthesized by laser ablation of a bulk Hf target in liquids and their structural, optical, and dielectric properties

2016

International audience; Laser ablation of a bulk Hf target in deionized (DI) water, ethanol, or toluene was carried out for the production of nanoparticles' colloidal solutions. Due to the interaction of the ablation plasma plume species with the species which are produced by the liquid decomposition at the plume-liquid interface, hafnia (HfO2) nanoparticles are synthesized in DI water, hafnium carbide (HfC) nanoparticles in toluene, and a mixture of these in ethanol. The hafnia nanoparticles are in the monoclinic low temperature phase and in the tetragonal and fcc high temperature phases. Their size distribution follows log-normal function with a median diameter in the range of 4.3–5.3 nm.…

Determination of trimethylamine-N-oxide in combination withl-carnitine andγ-butyrobetaine in human plasma by UPLC/MS/MS

2015

An ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS/MS) method was developed and validated for the quantification of trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) simultaneously with TMAO-related molecules L-carnitine and γ-butyrobetaine (GBB) in human blood plasma. The separation of analytes was achieved using a Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC)-type column with ammonium acetate-acetonitrile as the mobile phase. TMAO determination was validated according to valid US Food and Drug Administration guidelines. The developed method was successfully applied to plasma samples from healthy volunteers.

Determination of Calcium in Certain Fertilizers by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry: Studies of Some Spectral and Interelement…

1997

Abstract Four analytical wavelengths (393.366, 396.847, 317.933, and 422.673 nm) were used to determine Ca in 2 fertilizers by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Matrix effects were studied by adding to real fertilizer solutions fertilizer elements that are known or believed to interfere with Ca determination. Matrix effects were calculated by multiple linear regression. Interference was caused by S, K, or B. At 422.673 nm, the interference of B and K is a spectral effect, and at 396.847 and 317.933 nm, the interference of S and K is an interelement effect. At 393.366 nm, no linear interference was found. The best wavelength for determining Ca in fertilizers …

Iron Determination in Fertilizers by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry: Study of Spectral and Interelement Effects at Different…

1996

Abstract Four analytical wavelengths of iron (238.204, 239.562, 259.940, and 240.488 nm) were tested for determination of Fe in fertilizers by inductively cou pled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP AES). Variations in measurements were caused by the changing interference pattern at different wave lengths evaluated by multiple linear regression. Thus, results obtained with different wavelengths are not comparable. Ca, P, and K were typical ele ments causing interference in almost all examined Fe wavelengths. Wavelength Fe II 238.204 nm is the best wavelength for determination of Fe in fertiliz ers by ICP-AES. Method accuracy is ± 8% at the ex amined Fe levels in fertilizers.

Determination of Boron in Fertilizers by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry: Studies of Some Spectral Interferences at Different…

1995

Abstract The most sensitive analytical wavelengths of boron cannot be used in the determination of boron in fertilizers by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry because of spectral interference by potassium, phosphorus, and iron. For the 4 wavelengths of boron investigated, it was noticed that, at the same wavelength, the pattern of spectral interference changes according to fertilizer composition. The spectral interference patterns at the 4 analytical boron wavelengths were studied by adding matrix elements typically found in fertilizers to real fertilizer samples. When levels of added matrix elements correlate less than 0.2 to each other, the effect of added matrix eleme…
