Magnetic Hexadecapole γ Transitions and Neutrino-Nuclear Responses in Medium-Heavy Nuclei

Neutrino-nuclear responses in the form of squares of nuclear matrix elements, NMEs, are crucial for studies of neutrino-induced processes in nuclei. In this work we investigate magnetic hexadecapole (M4) NMEs in medium-heavy nuclei. The experimentally derived NMEs,MEXP(M4), deduced from observed M4γtransition half-lives are compared with the single-quasiparticle (QP) NMEs,MQP(M4), and the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model (MQPM) NMEsMMQPM(M4). The experimentally derived M4 NMEs are found to be reduced by a coefficientk≈0.29with respect toMQP(M4) and byk≈0.33with respect toMMQPM(M4). Breakdown transient study of plasma distributions in a 2.45 GHz hydrogen discharge

Plasma distribution transients associated with the breakdown of a 2.45 GHz hydrogen discharge similar to high current microwave ion sources are studied by means of an ultra-fast frame image acquisition system in visible light range. Eight different plasma distributions have been studied by photographing the 2D projections of the discharge through a transparent plasma electrode. The temporal evolution of images in Balmer-alpha and Fulcher band wavelengths have been recorded associated to atomic and molecular excitation and ionization processes. Some unexpected plasma distributions transient behaviors during breakdown are reported.

High-frequency even harmonics generation in a plasma with electron heat flux

It is shown that in a weakly nonuniform plasma with electron heat flux the generation of odd and even harmonics of high frequency radiation is possible. The even harmonics properties qualitatively differ as compared to those of odd harmonics and depend in an essential way on the heat flux value and orientation with respect to the fundamental wave polarization and propagation directions.

Studying exotic nuclides close to the N = Z line at the HIGISOL facility

The ion guide [1, 2] for heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions (HIGISOL) which was developed by Beraud et al. [3] has been implemented at the IGISOL facility in Jyvaskyla [4]. This system was modified over the past 5 years. Figure 1 shows the present set-up. The HIGISOL takes advantage of the different angular distributions of primary beam and reaction products: the primary beam is stopped in front of the stopping chamber and the reaction products enter the stopping chamber through a thin foil passing the beam stop. Suppression of ϒ(1S) at forward rapidity in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

We report on the measurement of the inclusive Υ (1S) production in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV carried out at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4) and down to zero transverse momentum using its μ+μ− decay channel with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. A strong suppression of the inclusive Υ (1S) yield is observed with respect to pp collisions scaled by the number of independent nucleon– nucleon collisions. The nuclear modification factor, for events in the 0–90% centrality range, amounts to 0.30 ± 0.05(stat) ± 0.04(syst). Determination of Qβ values from endpoint energies of beta spectra

Abstract A plastic scintillator telescope is described for determining beta endpoint energies up to 15 MeV. The response function of the telescope was measured using monoenergetic electrons from a betatron. A nonlinear procedure for unfolding the measured beta spectra on the basis of the experimental response function was tested successfully.

Structure and dynamics of sawteeth crashes in ASDEX Upgrade

The crash phase of the sawteeth in ASDEX Upgrade tokamak [Herrmann et al., Fusion Sci. Technol. 44(3), 569 (2003)] is investigated in detail in this paper by means of soft x-ray (SXR) and electron cyclotron emission (ECE) diagnostics. Analysis of precursor and postcursor (1,1) modes shows that the crash does not affect the position of the resonant surface q=1. Our experimental results suggest that sawtooth crash models should contain two ingredients to be consistent with experimental observations: (1) the (1,1) mode structure should survive the crash and (2) the flux changes should be small to preserve the position of the q=1 surface close to its original location. On the correlation between phase-locking modes and Vibrational Resonance in a neuronal model

International audience; We numerically and experimentally investigate the underlying mechanism leading to multiple resonances in the FitzHugh-Nagumo model driven by a bichromatic excitation. Using a FitzHugh-Nagumo circuit, we first analyze the number of spikes triggered by the system in response to a single sinusoidal wave forcing. We build an encoding diagram where different phase-locking modes are identified according to the amplitude and frequency of the sinusoidal excitation.
