Normal-state bubbles and lamellae in type-I superconductors

International audience; We report an extensive study of the formation of normal-state domains in type-I superconductors. Domain patterns are first considered theoretically. The magnetic interaction between domains is described in the framework of the ``current-loop'' model: the intermediate state is modeled by a set of loops of screening current encircling the domains and interacting as in the free space. This system is shown to be formally equivalent to a set of uniformly magnetized domains. An extension of the current-loop model is proposed to take into account the constraint of the magnetic shielding by the superconducting regions. The influence of topological phase transition on the superfluid density of overdoped copper oxides

We show that a topological quantum phase transition, generating flat bands and altering Fermi surface topology, is a primary reason for the exotic behavior of the overdoped high-temperature superconductors represented by $\rm La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4$, whose superconductivity features differ from what is described by the classical Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory [J.I. Bo\^zovi\'c, X. He, J. Wu, and A. T. Bollinger, Nature 536, 309 (2016)]. Phase diagram of dirty two-band superconductors and observability of impurity-induced $s+is$ state

We investigate the phase diagram of dirty two-band superconductors. This paper primarily focuses on the properties and observability of the time-reversal symmetry-breaking $s+is$ superconducting states, which can be generated in two-band superconductors by interband impurity scattering. We show that such states can appear in two distinct ways. First, according to a previously discussed scenario, the $s+is$ state can form as an intermediate phase at the impurity-driven crossover between $s_{\pm}$ and $s_{++}$ states. Multi-Wavelength VLA Observations of the Young Supernova SN 1993J

We present continuum VLA measurements of SN1993J in M81 taken on 17 and 21 December 2000, about 2820 days after the supernova explosion, spanning the frequency range from 0.32 to 14.9 GHz. These observations aimed at discerning the main absorbing processes acting in SN1993J at late epochs. We discuss three models for the late radio emission of SN1993J: (i) a simple power-law spectrum, (ii) a power-law spectrum free-free absorbed by a screen of homogeneously distributed ionized gas, and (iii) a power-law spectrum free-free absorbed by a “clumpy” medium. Study of the dynamic growth of wetting layers in the confined Ising model with competing surface fields

A two-dimensional magnetic Ising system confined in an L × D geometry () in the presence of competing magnetic fields (h) acting at opposite walls along the D-direction exhibits an interface between domains of different orientation that runs parallel to the walls. In the limit of infinite film thickness () this interface undergoes a wetting transition that occurs at the critical curve Tw(h), so that for T<Tw(h) such an interface is bound to the walls, while for Tw(h)≤T≤Tcb the interface is freely fluctuating around the centre of the film, where Tcb is the bulk critical temperature. Field-free permanent molecular planar alignment

We show the existence of a permanent molecular planar alignment in field-free conditions. We present different control strategies using shaped laser pulses to reach this state. The strategies are robust with respect to the temperature and can be implemented with the state of the art technology. They can be applied not only to linear molecules but also to symmetric or asymmetric top molecules along the most polarizable molecular axis. We propose potential applications of this planar alignment such as the increase of the adsorption on a surface.

Multi-rogue waves solutions to the focusing NLS equation and the KP-I equation

Abstract. We construct a multi-parametric family of quasi-rational solutions to the focusing NLS equation, presenting a profile of multiple rogue waves. These solutions have also been used by us to construct a large family of smooth, real localized rational solutions of the KP-I equation quite different from the multi-lumps solutions first constructed in Bordag et al. Laser cooling of externally produced Mg ions in a Penning trap for sympathetic cooling of highly charged ions

We have performed laser cooling of Mg ions confined in a Penning trap. The externally produced ions were captured in flight, stored and laser cooled. Laser-induced fluorescence was observed perpendicular to the cooling laser axis. Optical detection down to the single ion level together with electronic detection of the ion oscillations inside the Penning trap have been used to acquire information on the ion storage time, ion number and ion temperature. Evidence for formation of ion crystals has been observed. Hydrodynamic Modeling of Accretion Shock on CTTSs

High resolution (R ~ 600) X-ray observations of some classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs) (TW Hya, BP Tau, V4046 Sgr, MP Mus and RU Lupi) have shown the presence of X-ray plasma at T ~ 2–3 × 106 K and denser than n e ~ 1011 cm-3 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5], which suggests an origin different from the coronal one (n e ~ 1010 cm_3). Stationary models demonstrated that X-ray emission from CTTSs could also be produced by the accreting material [6]. We address this issue with the aid of a time-dependent hydrodynamic numerical model describing the impact of an accretion stream onto the chromosphere of a CTTS (see [7] for more details).
