On-line removal of mass interferences in palladium determination by ICP-MS using modified capillaries coupled to micro-flow nebulizers

This paper describes a novel approach developed for on-line removal of interferences within modified capillaries coupled to micro-flow nebulizers, for palladium determination by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). A strong cation exchanger [2-(4-chlorosulfophenyl)ethyltrichlorosilane)] was covalently bound to the silica capillary that was coupled to a microconcentric nebulizer (MCN) or to a direct injection nebulizer (DIN). The modified surface of the capillary was able to selectively retain copper and yttrium from aqueous samples at pH 7.5 during the sample introduction step, while Pd was not retained and 105Pd could be determined in the absence of interferent elements. …

Determination of uranium in tap water by ICP-MS

A fast and accurate procedure has been developed for the determination of uranium at microg L(-1) level in tap and mineral water. The method is based on the direct introduction of samples, without any chemical pre-treatment, into an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). Uranium was determined at the mass number 238 using Rh as internal standard. The method provides a limit of detection of 2 ng L(-1) and a good repeatability with relative standard deviation values (RSD) about 3% for five independent analyses of samples containing 73 microg L(-1) of uranium. Determination of ruthenium in photographic emulsions - Development and comparison of different sample treatments and mass spectrometric methods

Different sample treatment procedures were combined with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and negative thermal ionisation mass spectrometry (NTI-MS) for the determination of ruthenium traces in photographic emulsions. Determination of arsenic and antimony in milk by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry

Abstract A highly sensitive procedure has been developed for total arsenic and antimony determination in milk samples by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry after microwave-assisted sample digestion. The discrete introduction of 2 ml of digested sample in the automated continuous flow hydride generation system allows us to reduce drastically the sample and HCl consume and to determine several elements from a same sample digestion. Abstract A new procedure is proposed for a direct determination of ethanol in plasma and whole blood. Bromide/bromate speciation by NTI-IDMS and ICP-MS coupled with ion exchange chromatography

Two different mass spectrometric methods, negative thermal ionization isotope dilution mass spectrometry (NTI-IDMS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), off-line and on-line coupled with anion exchange chromatography, have been developed for simultaneous bromide and bromate determinations in water samples. A sensitive and fast method for direct determinations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in bulk samples and in chromatographically separated fractions by inductively coupled plasma isotope dilution mass spectrometry (ICP−IDMS) is developed. A 13C-enriched spike solution of benzoic acid is used for the isotope dilution step. Equal ionization efficiencies are obtained for carbon, independent of the type and molecular weight of the dissolved organic substance, which is the most important precondition for DOC determinations by ICP−IDMS.
