Optical measurements of an acylated azacrown at the air-water interface

1991

In this study, a cyclame derivative bearing four aliphatic chain substituents shows, like many amphiphiles, solid-condensed as well as liquid-expanded phases. In contrast to the classical amphiphiles, the onset of its phase transition is characterized by a bump-like shape whose amplitude is a function of the compression speed. Ellipsometry which is very sensitive to the monolayer physical state changes, and fluorescence microscopy which has contributed significantly to the understanding of the phenomena occurring in the phase transition region have been used to investigate the monolayer behavior of this compound. This study shows that in the liquid-expanded state, the film is homogeneous an…

Assessment of pro-oxidant activity of natural phenolic compounds in bio-polyesters

2018

Abstract In this work, natural phenolic compounds, such as Vanillic Acid (VA), Ferulic Acid (FA) and Thymol (Th), at very high concentrations, have been considered as pro-oxidant agents for Polylactic acid (PLA). Specifically, thin films of neat PLA and PLA-based systems containing 2 and 3 wt% of VA, FA and Th have been produced and subjected to accelerated degradation in different environmental conditions. Preliminary characterizations, through rheological, mechanical, optical and morphological analysis, of the formulated PLA-based systems show that the VA and FA, even less the Th, are able to exert a plasticizing action during the processing and subsequently, the PLA crystallinity and rig…

Optical suppression of ferroelectricity in polysiloxane copolymers with chiral and photochromic side groups

1998

The ferroelectricity of surface-stabilized aligned films of polysiloxane copolymers containing chiral esters and photochromic azobenzene moieties within the side groups is suppressed on UV irradiation and is rebuilt on visible irradiation. The liquid crystalline polymer (Sc* 64 SA 80 i) shows ferroelectric behavior below 64°C. The photoinduced modification of supramolecular order and the corresponding changes in its dynamics are studied by polarized UV/vis spectroscopy and broad band dielectric spectroscopy (10−2–105 Hz). The dielectric measurements show that UV irradiation causes a loss of ferroelectricity within an interval of 10 K below the phase transition temperature. The photochemical…

Photoelectrochemical Bisphenol S Sensor Based on ZnO‐Nanoroads Modified by Molecularly Imprinted Polypyrrole

2019

Molecularly imprinted polymers are important tools for the design of sensors and other molecular recognition based analytical systems. In this paper the development of a photoelectrochemical sensor for selective bisphenol determination is reported. The sensor is based on a glass/ZnO/MIP‐Ppy structure consisting of glass modified by a ZnO layer (glass/ZnO), which is functionalized by molecularly imprinted conducting polymer polypyrrole (MIP‐Ppy). The sensitivity of the sensor to bisphenol is in the range of 0.7–12.5 µm. Selectivity tests to other bisphenolic compounds are performed. Some aspects of a photoinduced response mechanism in glass/ZnO/MIP‐Ppy nanostructures are predicte…

Synthesis and properties of new phosphorus-functionalized bithiophene materials

2003

The synthesis and reactivity of the novel dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]-phosphole system and its potential use in polymeric sensory materials was investigated. Due to the nucleophilic nature of the phosphorus atom, these materials were found to be easily tunable. Classical reactions at the phosphorus center were performed to modify the electronic structure of the system and the corresponding changes were detected by UV/Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. Depending on the oxidation state of the central phosphorus atom or its substitution pattern, the dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]-phospholes show varying wavelengths for absorption and emission allowing to distinguish between different compounds by means o…

Synthesis and luminescence of poly(phenylacetylene)s with pendant iridium complexes and carbazole groups

2010

Poly(phenylacetylene)s containing pendant phosphorescent iridium complexes have been synthesized and their electrochemical, photo- and electroluminescent properties studied. The polymers have been synthesized by rhodium-catalyzed copolymerization of 9-(4-ethynylphenyl)carbazole (CzPA) and phenylacetylenes (C∧N)2Ir(κ2-O,O′-MeC(O)CHC(O)C6H4CCH-4) (C∧N = κ2-N,C1-2-(pyridin-2-yl)phenyl (IrppyPA) or κ2-N,C1-2-(isoquinolin-1-yl)phenyl (IrpiqPA)). In addition, organic poly(phenylacetylene)s with pendant carbazole groups have been synthesized by rhodium-catalyzed copolymerization of CzPA and 1-ethynyl-4-pentylbenzene. Complex (C∧N)2Ir(κ2-O,O′-MeC(O)CHC(O)Ph) (IrpiqPh; C∧N = 2-(isoquinolin-1-yl)phen…

Streufunktionen polymolekularer Substanzen bei der inelastischen Lichtstreuung

1976
