Factors affecting the UV-Transparency of Molecular Sieves

1994

The optical properties in the UV-region of several types of molecular sieves were studied. The initial onset of absorption around 280 nm which was observed for basically all samles synthesized without special precautions is not due to an early onset of band gap absorption, but might be correlated to the crystal size as well as structural defects within the crystals, e.g. E'-center or peroxy-radical. Using template free synthesis procedures which lead to small crystals containing few defect sites, we were able to synthesize molevular sieves which were almost completely transparent down to 200 nm. Such crystals can become very important in the development of technical luminophores.

Coexistence of spin-crossover and antiferromagnetic coupling phenomena in the novel dinuclear Fe(II) complex [Fe(dpa)(NCS)2]2bpym

2003

Abstract The iron(II) spin crossover dinuclear compound [Fe(dpa)(NCS) 2 ] 2 bpym where dpa = 2,2 ′ -dipyridylamine and bpym = 2,2 ′ -bipyrimidine has been synthesized and characterized. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility and 57 Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy data provide evidence for a rather complete and continuous S=2 ( HS )↔S=0 (LS) spin-crossover behavior taking place in the temperature range 400–50 K (T 1/2 =245 K ) without the presence of a plateau at 50% of conversion. The absence of such plateau, which is characteristic of all dinuclear compounds so far studied, is interpreted in terms of synergetic effect between intramolecular and intermolecular interactions.

Synthesis And Sorptive Properties Of Dodecasil 1 H With An Acessible Pore System

1994

Abstract The synthesis of Dodecasil 1H was studied in the system SiO2/1-adamantylamine/NH3/water with the objective of controlling the particle size and the morphology of the crystals. Since nucleation occurs in a very early stage of the synthesis, the heating rate to the final temperature have a strong influence on both parameters. Using seed crystals and such a heating programme, the expensive template 1-adamantylamine can be reduced to so small amounts, that a nearly template free pore system is achieved. The emptiness of the pore system was demonstrated from adsorption measurement using He and H2.

Transfer of plasmid DNA into cells with microelectroporation arrays on a chip

2000

The possibility to transfer pure DNA into bacterial cells forms the basis for the genetic engineering of the cell. Electroporation is a powerful and easy technique to introduce plasmid DNA into cells. Its drawback for use with high-throughput approaches is that with standard electroporation chambers the reactions have to carried out one after the other and the electroporation cuvettes are expensive. To obtain the possibility of high-throughput electroporation reactions Escherichia coli cells were electroinjected in parallel with different plasmids in reactions as small as 100 nl on a microstructured array of electrodes, forming hundred separate electroporation units on a chip of a square in…

Translocation of cdk2 to the nucleus during G1-phase in PDGF-stimulated human fibroblasts.

1997

We studied the subcellular distribution of cdk2 in synchronized, PDGF-stimulated human fibroblasts (FH109). After contact inhibition and serum depletion, more than 95% of FH109 cells were arrested in G0/G1-phase. PDGF-AB led to a 16-fold increase in proliferation compared with untreated cells. Cell cycle progression was studied by flow cytometric analysis, [3H]thymidine incorporation, and phosphorylation of the retinoblastoma gene product, pRB. Using Western blot analysis after subcellular fractionation, we revealed that after PDGF stimulation the phosphorylated (Thr 160), i.e., activated, form of cdk2 (33 kDa) first appeared in the nucleus at late G1-phase and persisted throughout until to…

Treatment of multiple traumatized anterior teeth associated with an alveolar bone fracture in a 20-year-old patient: A 3-year follow up

2014

Intrusive luxation is a type of recognizable luxation injury represented by a deeper axial displacement of the tooth toward the alveolar bone. Treatment strategies include waiting for the tooth to return to its position, immediate surgical repositioning, and repositioning through dental traction by orthodontic devices. The aim of this case report was to present the management of severe dental trauma and later restoration following IADT. A 20-year-old patient was presented after fainting at home four hours before, resulting in a dento-alveolar trauma. Clinical examinations revealed a traumatic intrusion, in 1.2, 1.1 and 2.1, uncomplicated crown fractures in 1.1 and 2.1 and a complicated crow…

Second Generation of Freescoo Solar DEC Prototypes for Residential Applications

2015

Freescoo is an innovative all-in-one compact solar Desiccant Evaporative Cooling (DEC) air conditioner concept. Results of the first prototype developed were presented at SHC Conference last year. Now a second generation of freescoo prototypes for applications in residential and small office buildings have been installed in Italy at ENEA Casaccia and at UNIPA. The thermodynamic cycle is based on the use of fixed and cooled adsorption beds and advanced evaporative cooling concepts. The adsorption bed, which is a fin and tube heat exchanger packed with silica gel grains, allows simultaneous dehumidification and cooling of the process air. The indirect evaporative cooling process, operated dow…

Analysis of organic pollutants in water at trace levels using fully automated solid-phase extraction coupled to high-performance liquid chromatography

1997

A method has been developed for the determination of trace levels of 32 pesticides, 19 explosives and 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in water in three individual steps. Solid-phase enrichment (SPE) is coupled to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a fully automated system. The organic pollutants are enriched on reusable cartridges packed with adsorbent materials: pesticides and explosives on a mixed bed of divinylbenzene-ethylvinylbenzene copolymers (LiChrolut EN®) and perfluorinated polyethylene (PolyF®), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on C18-modified silica (Zorbax® ODS1). Thermally assisted desorption (TAD) has been shown to increase the recovery of analyt…
