Laser driven parametric amplification in the xuv and soft-x-ray spectral range
2011
We present the first experimental realization of a new x-ray laser scheme based on strong-field parametric amplification of high-order harmonic radiation. With a simple semi-classical model, we can identify the most important experimental parameters, the spectral range and the small signal gain in gases. Using a single amplifier stage a small signal gain of 8000 has been obtained in Argon for the spectral range of 40-50 eV, using 350 fs, 7 mJ pulses at 1.05 µm. In Helium, we observed a small signal gain of 280 around 300 eV using 6 fs, 1.5 mJ pulses at 800 nm.
Design of Radiation-Hardened Rare-Earth Doped Amplifiers through a Coupled Experiment/Simulation Approach
2013
International audience; We present an approach coupling a limited experimental number of tests with numerical simulations regarding the design of radiation-hardened (RH) rare earth (RE)-doped fiber amplifiers. Radiation tests are done on RE-doped fiber samples in order to measure and assess the values of the principal input parameters requested by the simulation tool based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach. The proposed simulation procedure is validated by comparing the calculation results with the measured degradations of two amplifiers made with standard and RH RE-doped optical fibers, respectively. After validation, the numerical code is used to theoretically investigate the …
AMPLIFIED RIBOSOMAL DNA RESTRICTION ANALYSIS (ARDRA) BAKTERI DENGAN POTENSI ANTIMIKROB YANG BERASOSIASI DENGAN SPONS Jaspis sp.
2010
<p><em>Sponges</em><em> are one of the components that compose coral reef which have a potential bioactive substance that has not been utilized. Sponges are generally able to survive in marine waters were nutrients are poor because of associations with other organisms, especially bacteria. This study aimed to isolate and characterize bacteria (endosymbiont and ectosimbion) that produce antimicrobial compounds, and analyze genetic diversity based on Amplified Ribosomal DNA Restriction Analysis (ARDRA). The results of isolation obtained 138 bacterial isolates, which are 70 endofit isolates and 68 surfaces isolates respectively. The results obtained, based on antimicrob…
Evaluating diagnostic indicators of urogenital Schistosoma haematobium infection in young women: A cross sectional study in rural South Africa
2018
BackgroundUrine microscopy is the standard diagnostic method for urogenital S. haematobium infection. However, this may lead to under-diagnosis of urogenital schistosomiasis, as the disease may present itself with genital symptoms in the absence of ova in the urine. Currently there is no single reliable and affordable diagnostic method to diagnose the full spectrum of urogenital S. haematobium infection. In this study we explore the classic indicators in the diagnosis of urogenital S. haematobium infection, with focus on young women.MethodsIn a cross-sectional study of 1237 sexually active young women in rural South Africa, we assessed four diagnostic indicators of urogenital S. haematobium…
Vasoactive peptide urotensin II in plasma is associated with cerebral vasospasm after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and constitutes a potential …
2019
National audience; OBJECTIVECerebral vasospasm (VS) is a severe complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Urotensin II (UII) is a potent vasoactive peptide activating the urotensin (UT) receptor, potentially involved in brain vascular pathologies. The authors hypothesized that UII/UT system antagonism with the UT receptor antagonist/biased ligand urantide may be associated with post-SAH VS. The objectives of this study were 2-fold: 1) to leverage an experimental mouse model of SAH with VS in order to study the effect of urotensinergic system antagonism on neurological outcome, and 2) to investigate the association between plasma UII level and symptomatic VS after SAH in huma…
A genomic study of the inter-ORF distances in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
2006
The genome of eukaryotic microbes is usually quite compacted. The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is one of the best-known examples. Open reading frames (ORFs) occupy about 75% of the total DNA sequence. The existence of other, non-protein coding genes and other genetic elements leaves very little space for gene promoters and terminators. We have performed an in silico study of inter-ORF distances that shows that there is a minimum distance between two adjacent ORFs that depends on the relative orientation between them. Our analyses suggest that different kinds of promoters and terminators exist with regard to their length and ability to overlap each other. The experimental testing of some p…

Serotypes, Antibiotic Resistance, and Class 1 Integrons in Salmonella Isolates from Pediatric Cases of Enteritis in Tehran, Iran
2011
The present study was conducted to investigate serotype distribution, antimicrobial resistance patterns, carriage of class 1 integron, and clonality of Salmonella strains isolated from patients aged 0-12 years in Tehran, Iran, during 2007-2008. A total of 139 Salmonella isolates were studied. Salmonella serotypes Enteritidis, Infantis, and Typhimurium included 84.9% of isolates, Enteritidis accounting for 41.7%. The most prevalent resistances were to doxycycline (64.7%), nalidixic acid (61.2%), tetracycline (51.8%), and streptomycin (42.8%). Fifty-three (38.1%) isolates contained class 1 integron. Eight different gene cassettes were identified, aadA1 being the most frequently encountered. P…
A Neural Network model for the Evaluation of Text Complexity in Italian Language: a Representation Point of View
2018
Abstract The goal of a text simplification system (TS) is to create a new text suited to the characteristics of a reader, with the final goal of making it more understandable. The building of an Automatic Text Simplification System (ATS) cannot be separated from a correct evaluation of the text complexity. In fact the ATS must be capable of understanding if a text should be simplified for the target reader or not. In a previous work we have presented a model capable of classifying Italian sentences based on their complexity level. Our model is a Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) Neural Network capable of learning the features of easy-to-read and complex-to-read sentences autonomously from a anno…
