Paediatric oral formulations: comparison of two extemporaneously compounded suspensions from tacrolimus capsules

2011

Study objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the stability of tacrolimus in extemporaneously compounded liquid formulations. Methods: Two sets of liquid formulations were prepared using two different vehicles: one set in sterile water and in simple syrup (1:1) and one set using equal volumes of commercially available suspending agent (Ora-Plus) and simple syrup. The concentration of tacrolimus in each formulation was 0.5 mg/mL. The preparations containing Ora-Plus were stored at 25°C, the formulations that were prepared with sterile water and simple syrup were stored under refrigeration at 4°C. Results: Samples were collected at regular time intervals over a period of 56 d…

From Face-to-Face to Online UDeL Camps: Supporting Staff at Higher Education Institutions in Developing Universal Design for eLearning (UDeL)

2021

The TINEL Project is running a series of camps for staff at higher education institution to support them in developing inclusive eLearning. The first camp was conducted face-to-face, but the coronavirus pandemic meant that the second camp was conducted online. This created a case study in inclusive eLearning in itself and allowed us to experience and reflect on the challenges and opportunities of inclusive online teaching and learning. This paper presents the structure and content of the two camps, our reflections on moving from a face-to-face to an online situation and our elaboration how the UDL principles apply to eLearning to create Universal Design for eLearning (UDeL). We found that b…

Screening for Bacillus thuringiensis Crystal Proteins Active against the Cabbage Looper, Trichoplusia ni

2000

Abstract Toxicity tests were performed to find among Cry1 and Cry2 Bacillus thuringiensis crystal proteins those with high activity against the cabbage looper. Tests were performed with neonate larvae on surface-contaminated artificial diet. The crystal proteins found to be toxic were, from higher to lower toxicity: Cry1Ac, Cry1Ab, Cry1C, Cry2Aa, Cry1J, and Cry1F (LC50 of 1.1–4.1, 3.4–4.4, 12, 34, 87, and 250 ng/cm2, respectively). Cry1B, Cry1D, and Cry1E can be considered nontoxic (LC50 higher than 2500 ng/cm2). Cry1Aa was moderately toxic to nontoxic, depending on the source (LC50 of 420 ng/cm2 from PGS and 8100 ng/cm2 from Ecogen). In vitro binding assays with trypsin-activated 125I-labe…

Mechanism of Resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis Toxin Cry1Ac in a Greenhouse Population of the Cabbage Looper, Trichoplusia ni

2007

ABSTRACT The cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni , is one of only two insect species that have evolved resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis in agricultural situations. The trait of resistance to B. thuringiensis toxin Cry1Ac from a greenhouse-evolved resistant population of T. ni was introgressed into a highly inbred susceptible laboratory strain. The resulting introgression strain, GLEN-Cry1Ac-BCS, and its nearly isogenic susceptible strain were subjected to comparative genetic and biochemical studies to determine the mechanism of resistance. Results showed that midgut proteases, hemolymph melanization activity, and midgut esterase were not altered in the GLEN-Cry1Ac-BCS strain. The pattern of…

Etanola tvaiku iedarbības novērtējums uz nodarbinātajiem uzņēmumā SIA “Jaunpagasts Plus”

2017

Descriptive literature review of the added value of virtual realities in vocational education and training

2020

Tarkastelemme tässä katsaus artikkelissa virtuaalitodellisuusteknologian (VR) hyödyntämistä ammattikasvatuksen kentällä viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana. Tavoitteenamme on selvittää, minkälaista empiiristä tutkimusta aiheesta on tehty ja minkälaista lisäarvoa VR tuottaa ammattikasvatukselle 13 tutkimusartikkelin perusteella. Tulosten perusteella tutkimus VR:n hyödyntämisestä ammattikasvatuksessa on yhtäältä lisääntynyt, mutta toisaalta empiirisiä tuloksia on vielä suhteellisen vähän. Tutkimus on toistaiseksi keskittynyt käyttökokemuksiin erilaisia VR-sovelluksia hyödynnettäessä. Havaitsemamme lisäarvo liittyy erityisesti reaalimaailman rajoitusten ylittämiseen ja erilaisten oppimisprosessie…

When is there more employment, with individual or collective wage bargaining?

2019

Abstract In a standard Diamond-Mortensen-Pissarides labour market with frictions, the authors seek to determine when there is more employment with individual wage bargaining than with collective wage bargaining, using a wage equation generated by the standard total surplus sharing rule. Using a Cobb-Douglas production function, they find that if the bargaining power of the individual is high compared to the bargaining power of the union, there is more unemployment with individual wage setting and vice versa. When the individual worker and the union have the same bargaining power, if the cost of opening a vacancy is sufficiently high, there is more unemployment with individual wage setting. …

Accessing the gluonic structure of light nuclei at a future electron-ion collider

2020

We show how exclusive vector meson production off light ions can be used to probe the spatial distribution of small-$x$ gluons in the deuteron and $^3$He wave functions. In particular, we demonstrate how short range repulsive nucleon-nucleon interactions affect the predicted coherent $J/\Psi$ production spectra. Fluctuations of the nucleon substructure are shown to have a significant effect on the incoherent cross section above $|t|\gtrsim 0.2\,\mathrm{GeV}^2$. By explicitly performing the JIMWLK evolution, we predict the $x$-dependence of coherent and incoherent cross sections in the EIC energy range. Besides the increase of the average size of the nucleus with decreasing $x$, both the gro…
