Viivasegmenttiprosessin tunnusten estimointi
2011
Tutkielmassa käsitellään tasossa olevan viivasegmenttiprosessin kahta ensimmäisen kertaluvun tunnusta: intensiteettiä ja pituusjakauman odotusarvoa. Uusina menetelminä esitellään intensiteetin estimoinnissa kahden referenssipisteen käyttö sekä plusotannan aiheuttaman harhan korjaus käyttäen harhalle laskettua odotusarvoa. Pituusjakauman odotusarvon estimoinnissa uutta on sisältymissuhteeseen perustuva estimaattori. Tilastollisena mallina prosessille käytetään Boolen mallia, joka on erikoistapaus germ–grain-mallista. Lisäksi oletetaan viivasegmenttien pituuden noudattavan eksponenttijakaumaa ja suuntakulman suhteessa x-akseliin tasajakaumaa. Tunnuslukujen estimoinnissa tarvittava otanta suor…
Puhetta isyydestä ja osallistumisesta : isyyden diskursiivinen rakentuminen Kaksplus -lehdessä 1970-2010
2014
Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastelen isyyden kulttuurista rakentumista diskursiivisissa käytänteissä 1970-luvulta 2010-luvulle. Tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää, millaista puhetta isyydestä on esiintynyt perhelehden artikkeleissa.
Prior test experience produces changes of t-patterns spatial distribution in the elevated plus maze test
2014
Aim of present research was to investigate in male Wistar rats whether a prior elevated plus maze experience modifies the temporal structure of the behavioral response following a retest applied after 24h. Video files were coded by means of a software coder and event log files generated for each subject were analyzed by means of a specific software for temporal pattern analysis (Theme). Present research shows a clear reduction of the number of t-patterns from trial one to trial two. This reduction is provoked by the disappearance of t-patterns consisting of behavioral elements occurring in the unprotected zones of the maze. The results suggest that the previous experience in the maze causes…

Supervisor leadership style, employee regulatory focus, and leadership performance: A perspectivism approach
2019
[EN] Drawing on regulatory focus theory, this research proposes that transformational leadership performance depends on followers' circumstances. The analysis of 125 people from two Spanish service firms reveals that, apart from transformational leadership, the presence of academic education, intrinsic job satisfaction and high customer contact, and the absence of family responsibilities, are core conditions for the presence of high leadership performance. The first contribution of this study is the direct inference of follower's regulatory focus from the observation of individuals' circumstances. The second contribution is that leaders should consider followers' circumstances to adopt a su…
Data from: Targeting antibiotic resistant bacteria with phages reduces bacterial density in an insect host
2019
Phage therapy is attracting growing interest among clinicians as antibiotic resistance continues becoming harder to control. However, clinical trials and animal model studies on bacteriophage treatment are still scarce and results on the efficacy vary. Recent research suggests that using traditional antimicrobials in concert with phage could have desirable synergistic effects that hinder the evolution of resistance. Here, we present a novel insect gut model to study phage-antibiotic interaction in a system where antibiotic resistance initially exists in very low frequency and phage specifically targets the resistance bearing cells. We demonstrate that while phage therapy could not reduce th…
Behavioral Traits Associated With Resilience to the Effects of Repeated Social Defeat on Cocaine-Induced Conditioned Place Preference in Mice
2020
The relationship between stress and drug use is well demonstrated. Stress-induced by repeated social defeat (RSD) enhances the conditioned place preference (CPP) induced by cocaine in mice. The phenomenon of resilience understood as the ability of subjects to overcome the negative effects of stress is the focus of increasing interest. Our aim is to characterize the behavior of resilient animals with respect to the effects of RSD on the CPP induced by cocaine. To this end, 25 male C57BL/6 mice were exposed to stress by RSD during late adolescence, while other 15 male mice did not undergo stress (controls). On the 2 days following the last defeat, all the animals carried out the elevated plus…
COVID-19: Relationship and Impact on Breastfeeding-A Systematic Review.
2021
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization (WHO). One major problem faced is whether breastfeeding by mothers infected with the virus is safe. The objective of this work is to study the impact that the SARS-CoV-2 virus can have on breastfeeding, and whether the virus or antibodies can be transmitted from mother to child through milk. We carried out a systematic review of studies focusing on the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on breastfeeding by mothers infected with the virus. The bibliographic search was done through Medline (Pubmed), MedlinePlus and Google Scholar. From 292 re…
Pharmacological manipulation of serotonin receptors during brain embryogenesis favours stress resiliency in female rats
2018
Manipulations of the serotonin transmission during early development induce long-lasting changes in the serotonergic circuitry throughout the brain. However, little is known on the developmental consequences in the female progeny. Therefore, this study aimed at exploring the behavioural effects of pre- and postnatal stimulation of the serotonergic system by 5-methoxytryptamine in adolescent female rats on behavioural reactivity and anxiety- like phenotype. Our results show that perinatal 5- methoxythyptamine decreased total distance travelled and rearing frequency in the novel enviroment, and increased the preference for the centre of the arena in the open field test. Moreover, perinatal 5-…
