A fuel cell-based hybrid power supply for portable electronics devices
2008
A fuel cell - supercapacitor hybrid power supply for portable applications is designed. To ensure system level simulation, each component is accurately modeled and simulation results are reported. A Digital Still Camera is selected as specific load device, although the choice of a specific application does not influence the proposed control technique performances but only dictates the power supply specifications. The fuel cell and the power management system are modeled in PSIM. © 2008 IEEE.
Direct Metal‐Free Chemical Vapor Deposition of Graphene Films on Insulating Substrates for Micro‐Supercapacitors with High Volumetric Capacitance
2019
Direct, metal‐free synthesis of graphene films on insulating substrates in a controlled manner is of great importance for applications in (opto)electronic and energy storage devices. Graphene films are fabricated on fused silica substrates without metal catalyst via chemical vapor deposition (CVD), using propionic acid as a carbon source. Film‐thickness is readily adjustable between 5 and 45 nm by changing the deposition time and flow rate of the precursor, displaying sheet resistance in the range of 0.27–1.86 kΩ□−1. The resulting graphene films are directly integrated into micro‐supercapacitors without film transfer or liquid‐phase processing, and demonstrate ultrahigh operation rates up t…

Power management of a battery/supercapacitor system for E-mobility applications
2019
Hybrid Energy Storage Systems (HESS) have been very popular in recent years in different applications, from electric vehicles (EVs) to smart grids and renewable energies, due to the growing need to accumulate electricity. The concept of hybridization arises from the requirement of both high energy and specific power. The battery/supercapacitor (SC) system offers great advantages in a DC bus, giving the opportunity to provide high amounts of power to the loads. In this paper, a system composed of two bidirectional DC-DC converters, one connected to a battery pack and one to a stack of supercapacitors, is presented for a DC bus in electrical mobility (E-Mobility) applications. The proposed co…
A fuel cell-supercapacitor power supply for portable applications
2008
Due to the increasing number and complexity of the available functions, modern handheld devices require higher and higher current slew rates. Customers' requirements lead to a growing interest in longer-lasting power, fast transient response power supply systems and minimization of system weight, volume and cost. Fuel cell based hybrid systems are designed to meet all requirements. In this paper, a fuel cell-supercapacitor hybrid power supply for portable applications is proposed. The power management subsystem is designed and simulation results are shown to test the efficiency of the control algorithm. ©2008 IEEE.
Optimal Integration of Hybrid Supercapacitor and IPT system for a Free Catenary Tramway
2017
The aim of the presented paper is the study of an optimal integration of Supercapacitor based storage system and Inductive Power Transfer system for the free-catenary operation of a tramway. The paper starts from the definition of the Inductive Power transfer pad system and proposed an optimal integration strategy for the correct size of on-board supercapacitors and the inductive energy transfer.
Bottom-Up, On-Surface-Synthesized Armchair Graphene Nanoribbons for Ultra-High-Power Micro-Supercapacitors
2020
Bottom-up-synthesized graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with excellent electronic properties are promising materials for energy storage systems. Herein, we report bottom-up-synthesized GNR films employed as electrode materials for micro-supercapacitors (MSCs). The micro-device delivers an excellent volumetric capacitance and an ultra-high power density. The electrochemical performance of MSCs could be correlated with the charge carrier mobility within the differently employed GNRs, as determined by pump–probe terahertz spectroscopy studies.
Resistive state triggered by vortex entry in YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ nanostructures
2014
We have realized YBa2Cu3O7-delta nanowires and nano Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (nanoSQUID). The measured temperature dependence of the wire resistances below the superconducting transition temperature has been analyzed using a thermally activated vortex entry model valid for wires wider than the superconducting coherence length. The extracted zero temperature values of the London penetration depth, lambda(0) similar or equal to 270 +/- 15 nm, are in good agreement with the value obtained from critical current modulations as a function of an externally applied magnetic field in a nanoSQUID implementing two nanowires.
Effect of boron doping in the microwave surface resistance of neutron irradiated melt-textured Y1.6Ba2.3Cu3.3O7−x samples
2012
We report on the microwave surface resistance of melt-textured Y_1.6Ba_2.3Cu_3.3O_7-x samples, doped with different amount of B_2O_3 and, subsequently, irradiated by thermal neutrons at the fluence of 1.476 \times 10^17 cm^-2. The microwave surface resistance has been measured as a function of temperature and DC magnetic field. The experimental results are quantitatively discussed in the framework of the Coffey and Clem theory, properly adapted to take into account the d-wave nature of cuprate superconductors. By fitting the experimental data at zero DC field, we have highlighted the effects of the induced defects in the general properties of the samples, including the intergranular region.…
