[Fe(TPT)(2/3){M(I)(CN)2}2]⋅nSolv (M(I) = Ag, Au): new bimetallic porous coordination polymers with spin-crossover properties.
2013
Two new heterobimetallic porous coordination polymers with the formula [Fe(TPT)2/3{MI(CN)2}2]¿nSolv (TPT=[(2,4,6-tris(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine]; MI=Ag (nSolv=0, 1¿MeOH, 2¿CH2Cl2), Au (nSolv=0, 2¿CH2Cl2)) have been synthesized and their crystal structures were determined at 120¿K and 293¿K by single-crystal X-ray analysis. These structures crystallized in the trigonal R-3m space group. The FeII ion resides at an inversion centre that defines a [FeN6] coordination core. Four dicyanometallate groups coordinate at the equatorial positions, whilst the axial positions are occupied by the TPT ligand. Each TPT ligand is centred in a ternary axis and bridges three crystallographically equivalent Fe…
Testing a methodology to improve organizational learning about crisis communication by public organizations
2011
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to test a measurement system with performance indicators to improve organizational learning about crisis communication by public organizations enhancing public safety in large scale emergencies. The tool can be used to conduct a preparedness audit or to evaluate communication performance in a real situation or in an emergency exercise. Evaluation is part of the strategic planning and development of crisis communication.Design/methodology/approach – The construction of the instrument and its theoretical underpinnings are first explained, after which the series of empirical tests that were implemented to scrutinize the clarity and appropriateness of the …
Recent advances in local probe techniques in corrosion research – Analysis of the role of stress on pitting sensitivity
2007
Local probe techniques have been largely applied to predict the spatial distribution of the electrochemical reactions and to quantify the corrosion rate. These local probe techniques are now being developed to capture the temporal information, in-situ and in real-time. Nevertheless only few works have been devoted to investigate with these local probes the role of stress on pitting sensitivity on passive materials. In this paper, a part of the most recent studies based on combination of local electrochemical measurements with finite element mapping of surface stress gradients are reported illustrating the role of inclusions under straining and the mechanical effect of surface preparation on…
Efficacy of removing Thermafil and GuttaCore from straight root canal systems using a novel non-surgical root canal re-treatment system : a micro-com…
2021
The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an XP-endo non-surgical root canal re-treatment system in removing both GuttaCore and Thermafil gutta-percha carrier-based root canal filling materials from straight root canal systems using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) analysis. The study was performed on 20 single-rooted upper teeth, which were randomly allocated into the following study groups: Group A, Thermafil and AH Plus sealer (n = 10)
Effects of Weak Links in the Nonlinear Microwave Response of MgB2 Superconductor
2006
We report experimental results of second-harmonic (SH) response at microwave frequency in several ceramic MgB2 samples, prepared by different methods. The SH signal has been investigated as a function of the temperature and DC magnetic field. The investigation has been carried out at low magnetic fields, where nonlinear processes arising from motion of Abrikosov fluxons are ineffective. We show that the low-temperature SH emission is ascribable to processes involving weak links. Comparison among the peculiarities of the SH signal radiated by the different samples shows that the presence of weak links strongly depends on the sample preparation method, as well as the purity and morphology of …
Standardisation, Reference Materials and Comparative Measurements for Surface Area and Pore Characterisation
1991
Summary This paper reviews current activities to standardise measuring procedures for surface area and pore size determination. Comparative measurements at different laboratories using candidate reference materials revealed that surfaces of highly dispersed materials can be affected remarkably during storing and sample preparation. On account of the fractal nature of these materials, the results depend on the measuring methods. Reference materials of dispersed materials are offered by national and international standardisation administrations and by industrial distributers. The standardisation of measuring methods becomes more and more international (ISO, IUPAC). The survey includes tables …
Chitosomes as drug delivery systems for C-phycocyanin: preparation and characterization.
2010
The aim of this work was to investigate chitosomes, i.e. liposomes coated by a polyelectrolyte complex between chitosan (CH) and xantan gum (XG), as potential delivery system for oral administration of the protein C-phycocyanin. To this purpose several CH-XG-microcomplexes were prepared in aqueous lactic acid at different chitosan-xanthan gum percent ratios and rheological properties of the microcomplexes were studied to analyse the contribution of chitosan and xanthan gum in the reaction of microcomplexation. After establishing the best microcomplexes, chitosomes were prepared by coating C-phycocyanin loaded liposomes with the CH-XG hydrogels using spray-drying or freeze-drying. The chitos…
Different Dissolution Media Lead to Different Crystal Structures of Talinolol with Impact on Its Dissolution and Solubility
2003
During the performance of dissolution tests with immediate and controlled-release talinolol tablets it was detected that the type of the buffer used as dissolution medium had a strong influence on the solubility and the dissolution behavior of the drug. It was proven that talinolol appeared in different crystal structures with strongly differing solubilities when pure water, acetate, or phosphate buffers were employed as dissolution media. The resulting crystal structures were characterized by means of light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray powder diffraction. All methods were adjuvant to detect changes in talinolol crystal structures. The different solubility and di…
Complex interactions between phytochemicals. The multi-target therapeutic concept of phytotherapy.
2010
Drugs derived from natural resources represent a significant segment of the pharmaceutical market as compared to randomly synthesized compounds. It is a goal of drug development programs to design selective ligands that act on single disease targets to obtain highly effective and safe drugs with low side effects. Although this strategy was successful for many new therapies, there is a marked decline in the number of new drugs introduced into clinical practice over the past decades. One reason for this failure may be due to the fact that the pathogenesis of many diseases is rather multi-factorial in nature and not due to a single cause. Phytotherapy, whose therapeutic efficacy is based on th…
Combined use of liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry in sy…
2012
As a suitable way for routine screening of pesticides and control of other organic contaminants in water, the combination of liquid chromatography triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (LC-QqQ-MS/MS) and liquid chromatography-hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) has been applied to the analysis of 63 surface and waste water samples after conventional solid-phase extraction (SPE). The extracts were screened for 43 pesticides or degradation products by LC-QqQ-MS/MS achieving limits of detection (LOD) ranged from 0.04 to 2 ng L(-1). Of the 43 selected pesticides, 33 were detected in water samples. The ESI-QTOF MS instrument was run using two simultaneous acquisi…
