Proyectos educativos multidisciplinares y ayuda a la comunidad
2019
This paper relates an experience carried out at a higher education setting, specifically involving 3rd-year students in the Early Childhood Education degree programme. In relation to this, the paper presents an educational model that takes into account the need to develop ethical and social competences and gives importance to interdisciplinary education in real contexts. To this aim, all the academic modules that form part of this degree programme devote 25% of their teaching time and evaluation to the development of an interdisciplinary project. This paper will describe one of these projects, entitled "Solve a real problem", the design of which is informed by service-learning and problem-b…
Modelling in Physics: A matter of experience?
2012
This study is focused on analyzing experimental results obtained due the use of different types of problem statements. It analyzes characteristics of problem-solving processes in subjects who have different levels of experience in solving physics problems. The problem-solving process is assumed as a process of modeling where different levels of representations are built. It is proposed a comprehension model for Physics problem-solving that assumes the existence of three levels of representation with different ontological elements and different levels of abstraction: A Situation Model (referential, non-abstract world representation of objects and events), a Conceptual-Physics Model (abstract…

Micellization and Micellar Structure of a Poly(ethylene oxide)/Poly(propylene oxide)/Poly(ethylene oxide) Triblock Copolymer in Water Solution, As St…
1997
The micellization of the triblock copolymer Pluronic P85 (poly(oxyethylene)27/poly(oxypropylene)39/poly(oxyethylene)27) in aqueous solution was followed vs temperature and addition of aliphatic alcohols, using the spin probe technique. Different types of probes properly chosen (spin-labeled (SL) poly(oxyethylene(4))nonylphenol, SL-Pluronic L62, TEMPO-laurate, TEMPO-hexanoate, CAT 4, CAT 8, CAT 11, CAT 16, and 5-, 7-, 10-, and 12-doxylstearic acids) provided information about the micellar structure (polarity, viscosity, and order degree) at different radial locations. Micellization was found to be low at room temperature, even for 10% aqueous solutions, but strongly increasing with temperatu…
Probing the internal environment of PVP networks generated by irradiation with different sources
2010
Poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) hydrogels have been synthesised from the aqueous solutions of the same linear polymer by two different radiation sources: electron beams and UV rays. The present investigation couples conventional hydrogel characterisation techniques with the study of the partition equilibria, fluorescence behaviour and release of two different molecular probes, 1-anilino-8-naphthalene sulphonate (ANS) and Thioflavin T (ThT). The two probes have comparable molecular weight and different structural and optical properties. The chemical networks produced upon irradiation in different experimental conditions presented quite distinctive mechanical spectra, yielded to different…
Arbitrarily shaped plates analysis via Line Element-Less Method (LEM)
2018
Abstract An innovative procedure is introduced for the analysis of arbitrarily shaped thin plates with various boundary conditions and under generic transverse loading conditions. Framed into Line Element-less Method, a truly meshfree method, this novel approach yields the solution in terms of the deflection function in a straightforward manner, without resorting to any discretization, neither in the domain nor on the boundary. Specifically, expressing the deflection function through a series expansion in terms of harmonic polynomials, it is shown that the proposed method requires only the evaluation of line integrals along the boundary parametric equation. Further, minimization of appropri…
Branch-Price-and-Cut for the Soft-Clustered Capacitated Arc-Routing Problem
2021
The soft-clustered capacitated arc-routing problem (SoftCluCARP) is a variant of the classical capacitated arc-routing problem. The only additional constraint is that the set of required edges, that is, the streets to be serviced, is partitioned into clusters, and feasible routes must respect the soft-cluster constraint, that is, all required edges of the same cluster must be served by the same vehicle. In this article, we design an effective branch-price-and-cut algorithm for the exact solution of the SoftCluCARP. Its new components are a metaheuristic and branch-and-cut-based solvers for the solution of the column-generation subproblem, which is a profitable rural clustered postman tour …
A comparison of two different formulations for Arc Routing Problems on Mixed graphs
2006
[EN] Arc routing problems on mixed graphs have been modelled in the literature either using just one variable per edge or associating to each edge two variables, each one representing its traversal in the corresponding direction. In this paper, and using the mixed general routing problem as an example, we compare theoretical and computationally both formulations as well as the lower bounds obtained from them using Linear Programming based methods. Extensive computational experiments, including some big and newly generated random instances, are presented.
Arc routing problems: A review of the past, present, and future
2020
[EN] Arc routing problems (ARPs) are defined and introduced. Following a brief history of developments in this area of research, different types of ARPs are described that are currently relevant for study. In addition, particular features of ARPs that are important from a theoretical or practical point of view are discussed. A section on applications describes some of the changes that have occurred from early applications of ARP models to the present day and points the way to emerging topics for study. A final section provides information on libraries and instance repositories for ARPs. The review concludes with some perspectives on future research developments and opportunities for emergin…
