The abandoned remains of the Gulì textile factory in Palermo stands today as memory, from which it is possible to still read the history, through the spaces and construction techniques used, of an example of absolute innovation for that time. The paper presents the outcomes of a studio research conducted by the University of Palermo, aimed at defining the history and characteristics of the industrial complex. Il principale motore di questo libro è stata la volontà di non lasciare che un secolo di storia di un complesso edificato andasse in fumo insieme a storie di mestieri e vite, vissute nei luoghi descritti e talvolta interrotte proprio a causa di quei mestieri. Una realtà produttiva di Palermo che ha costituito un orgoglio per la città per tantissimi anni e che adesso giace in stato di completo abbandono. Il mio compito è stato sicuramente allietato e reso più semplice dalla mia vicinanza a persone che nella Manifattura hanno speso gran parte delle loro vite, e che mi hanno consigliata e guidata nel percorso di conoscenza.
