Overview and experimental analysis of MC SPWM techniques for single-phase five level cascaded H-bridge FPGA controller-based

This paper presents an overview and experimental analysis of the MC SPWM techniques for single-phase cascaded H-bridge inverter. The multilevel power converters are an alternative to traditional converters known as “three-level converters”. The voltage waveforms and the related frequency spectra, which have been obtained by simulation analysis in Matlab-Simulink environment, are here reported for all the proposed modulation techniques. The simulation results have been experimentally validated through means of a DC/AC, five-level, single-phase converter prototype with an appropriate test bench.

Abstract Fires or electrical hazards and accidents can occur if vegetation is not controlled or cleared around overhead power lines, resulting in serious risks to people and property and significant costs to the community. There are numerous blackouts due to interfering the trees with the power transmission lines in hilly and urban areas. Design and implementation of a long-range low-power wake-up radio and customized DC-MAC protocol for LoRaWAN

In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a long-rage wake-up radio (WuR) and customized duty cycled (DC) MAC protocol for wireless IoT devices. The WuRx achieves a sensivity of −70 dBm by consuming just 0.032 mA, thereby optimizing the energy consumption of battery powered long-range wireless IoT devices. Reducing the power consumption of these devices minimizes the overall costs when deployed in large scale.

This chapter presents the Agent Based Architecture developed within the research project, titled "Process and Production Planning in manufacturing Enterprise Networks". As mentioned in Chapter 1, the architecture has been developed to support “added value services” in neutral linear e-marketplaces, i.e. in virtual districts. In this chapter the architecture will be described from a functional and dynamic point of view by using the formalisms used in the project. In particular, from a functional perspective, the architecture is described by using the IDEF0 formalism, while its dynamics are specified by UML activity diagrams.

Optimization of a Time-to-Digital Converter and a coincidence map algorithm for TOF-PET applications

This contribution describes the optimization of a multichannel high resolution Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) in a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) initially capable of obtaining time resolutions below 100ps for multiple channels. Due to its fast propagation capability it has taken advantage of the FPGA internal carry logic for accurate time measurements. Furthermore, the implementation of the TDC has been performed in different clock regions and tested with different frequencies as well, achieving improvements of up to 50% for a pair of channels. A microcomputer-based laboratory system for controlling stimulus presentations and data acquisition in classical conditioning experiments is described. The system comprises an Intel 386/486-based microcomputer and a commercially obtained low-cost counter/timer board with input/output lines for stimulus timing and external device control. The aim of our work is to implement a system of motion estimation in image sequences processing on DSP's: fast motion estimation based on Gabor spatio-temporal filters. A reconfigurable architecture for autonomous visual-navigation

This paper describes the design of a reconfigurable architecture for implementing image processing algorithms. This architecture is a pipeline of small identical processing elements that contain a programmable logic device (FPGA) and double port memories. This processing system has been adapted to accelerate the computation of differential algorithms. Breedbot: An Edutainment Robotics System to Link Digital and Real World

The paper describes Breedbot an edutainment software and hardware system that could be used to evolve autonomous agents in digital (software) world and to transfer the evolved minds in physical agents (robots). The system is based on a wide variety of Artificial Life techniques (Artificial Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, User Guided Evolutionary Design and Evolutionary Robotics). An user without any computer programming skill can determine the robot behaviour.
