Local regularity estimates for general discrete dynamic programming equations

We obtain an analytic proof for asymptotic H\"older estimate and Harnack's inequality for solutions to a discrete dynamic programming equation. The results also generalize to functions satisfying Pucci-type inequalities for discrete extremal operators. Thus the results cover a quite general class of equations.

Apoptosis is a well-defined cellular process in which a cell dies, characterized by cell shrinkage and DNA fragmentation. In parasites like Leishmania, the process of apoptosis-like cell death has been described. Moreover upon infection, the apoptotic-like population is essential for disease development, in part by silencing host phagocytes. Nevertheless, the exact mechanism of how apoptosis in unicellular organisms may support infectivity remains unclear. Therefore we investigated the fate of apoptotic-like Leishmania parasites in human host macrophages. Abstract The use of automatic systems in the analysis of medical images has proven to be very useful to radiologists, especially in the framework of screening programs, in which radiologists make their first diagnosis on the basis of images only, most of those corresponding to healthy patients, and have to distinguish pathological findings from non-pathological ones at an early stage. In particular, we are developing preprocessing methods to be applied for pulmonary nodule Computer Aided Detection in low-dose lung Multi Slice CT (computed tomography) images.

The outcomes of national literacy programs on basic reading skills in familiar language among Zambian early graders

In Zambia the Ministry of General Education implemented two national literacy programs in order to improve low levels of reading; the Primary Reading Program (PRP) implemented from 1999 to 2014 and the Primary Literacy Program (PLP) piloted in some schools in 2014 before being scaled up. This research examines the acquisition of basic reading skills among learners in familiar languages at the end of grade 2 in the two national literacy programs. Makrofāgu funkcionālā programmēšana vēža šūnu sferoīdu klātbūtnē

Audzēju makrofāgu (tumor-associated macrophages, TAM) pārprogrammēšana ir daudzsološa vēža imūnterapijas stratēģija. Maģistra darba ietvaros tika izveidots un raksturots jauns in vitro 3D modelis makrofāgu programmēšanas pētījumiem vēža sferoīdu klātbūtnē. Pirmkārt, tika parādīts, ka 3D kultivētajiem makrofāgiem citokīnu, hemokīnu un virsmas marķieru profils būtiski neatšķiras no monoslānī kultivētajiem makrofāgiem. Otrkārt, tika izpētītas makrofāgu pārprogrammēšanas iespējas 3D apstākļos. Iegūtie dati liecina, ka pārprogrammēšanas rezultātā tiek iegūts jaukts makrofāgu fenotips, kas ekspresē gan imūnsupresīvus, gan pretvēža imūnstimulējošus faktorus. Developments in computer hardware and programming languages, in this case C++, have made it feasible to write models of concurrent systems under verification in the programming language, instead of some established modelling language such as Promela. While this does not reduce the usefulness of modelling languages, it offers new possibilities that may be advantageous, for instance, when teaching state space ideas to newcomers or when experimenting with new scientific ideas.
