Finely Tuned Temperature-Controlled Cargo Release Using Paraffin-Capped Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles

[EN] Trapped: Mesoporous silica nanoparticles were loaded with a fluorescent guest and functionalized with octadecyltrimethoxysilane. The alkyl chains interact with paraffins, which build a hydrophobic layer around the particle (see picture). Upon melting of the paraffin, the guest molecule is released, as demonstrated in cells for the guest doxorubicin. The release temperature can be tuned by choosing an appropriate paraffin. The first important hypothesis in the prediction of properties of synthesized molecules is the structural hypothesis. In the study of drug-receptor interactions, the case where the three-dimensional structure of the receptor is known allows the application of molecular simulation and energy calculations to estimate the binding affinity for a proposed series of compounds. The chemical topological hypothesis permits the description of molecular structures without using concepts such as force or energy. Abstract Densities of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium octylsulfate ([bmim][OcOSO3]) solutions in water and 1-propanol have been measured with an oscillating-tube densimeter at temperatures from 278.15 K to 328.15 K. From these densities, apparent molar volumes Vϕ of [bmim][OcOSO3] in both solvents have been calculated, and its dependence on the molality has been treated with the Redlich and Meyer equation. Debye–Huckel limiting slopes for 1-propanol at working temperatures have been calculated, and apparent molar volumes of [bmim][OcOSO3] at infinite dilution V ϕ ∘ in both solvents have been evaluated. Conductivity, density, heat capacity, enthalpy of dilution, and osmotic coefficient measurements of water−sodium perfluorooctanoate (NaPFO)−sodium dodecanoate systems were carried out as functions of the surfactants' total molality (mt) at different mole fractions (XNaPFO). From conductivity data, the critical micelle concentration (cmc) and the degree of ionization (β) of the micelles were derived. The cmc's of the micelles are higher than those of the pure surfactants while β depends linearly on XNaPFO. The apparent molar mass of a partially quaternized poly-2-vinylpyridines (degree of quaternization 4.3% < Q < 35%) in 1-propanol is measured by light scattering at low ionic strength (10–6 M < cs < 10–3 M) as a function of polyion repeat unit concentration (7 × 10–5 monomol/L < cm,p < 4 × 10–2 monomol/L). No dialysis was applied prior to measurements. The apparent molar mass under “salt-free” conditions is smaller than the true molar mass by an order of magnitude, while approaching the true value at higher ionic strength. Apparent molar volumes VΦ,S were determined for sodium octyl, decyl, and dodecyl sulfates in water at 2 and 19 MPa from 25 to 130 °C. The shapes of VΦ,S vs the surfactant concentration curves depend on the surfactant alkyl chain, temperature and pressure. The standard partial molar volumes were calculated from data in the premicellar region whereas the partial molar volumes of the surfactant in the micellar phase were obtained from data in the postmicellar region. Densities of ethanol + water + strontium chloride mixtures have been measured with an oscillating-tube densimeter over a large range of concentrations of the salt and ethanol, at 298.15 K. From these densities, apparent molar volumes of the electrolyte in these mixtures have been calculated, and partial molar volumes at infinite dilution have been evaluated.

Abstract Densities of 1-pentanol aqueous solutions were measured by using a vibrating tube densimeter especially designed and equipped to perform accurate measurements from ambient conditions up toT=423 K andp=80 MPa. The densimeter was tested by measuring densities of NaCl (aq).
