Prevalence and Risk Factors for Anal Human Papillomavirus Infection in Human Immunodeficiency Virus–Positive Men Who Have Sex with Men
2018
A correction has been published:The Journal of Infectious Diseases, Volume 218, Issue 8, 15 October 2018, Page 1350, https://doi.org/10.1093/infdis/jiy315; International audience; Background:We assessed prevalence and risk factors for anal human papillomavirus (HPV) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive men who have sex with men (MSM), who are at high-risk of HPV-related anal cancer. Methods:APACHES is a multicentric, prospective study of anal HPV infection and lesions in HIV-positive MSM aged ≥35 years. At baseline, participants underwent anal swabs for HPV and cytology, plus high-resolution anoscopy. High-risk HPV (HR-HPV) was tested by Cobas4800, with genotyping of HR-HPV positiv…
Inverse Comorbidity: The Power of Paradox in the Advancement of Science
2013
Abstract: Research on comorbidity and multimorbidity is finally receiving the attention it deserves, particularly considering the magnitude and impact they have on health and the delivery of healthcare [1,2]. Numerous studies have demonstrated that individuals with Down’s syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, diabetes, anorexia nervosa, Alzheimer’s disease, allergy related diseases, multiple sclerosis or Huntington’s disease (among other health problems) are protected against many forms of cancer, including solid tumors, smoking-related tumors and prostate cancer. This apparent anti-cancer effect, which we have termed inverse cancer comorbidity, has been obse…
Clinical and biochemical markers of visceral adipose tissue activity: Body mass index, visceral adiposity index, leptin, adiponectin, and matrix meta…
2018
Context: The correlation between aggressive prostate cancer and obesity mainly based on body mass index (BMI) and pathology after surgery remains controversial. Aims: The aim of the study was to correlate BMI, visceral adiposity index (VAI), and the plasmatic levels of leptin, adiponectin, and matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), and biomarkers of adipose tissue function, with the detection of Gleason patterns 4 and 5 at biopsy. Subjects and Methods: Consecutive patients with prostate cancer at 12-core transrectal biopsy were enrolled. BMI, waist circumference (WC), blood samples to evaluate the plasmatic levels of triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL), adiponectin, leptin, …
Stress Hyperglycemia as Predictive Factor of Recurrence in Children with Febrile Seizures
2020
Stress hyperglycemia and hyperlactatemia are commonly referred to as markers of stress severity and poor outcome in children with severe acute illness or febrile seizures. Our prospective study aimed to explore the risk factors for stress hyperglycemia and the predictive value of stress hyperglycemia for febrile seizure recurrence. We evaluated as risk factors for blood glucose level, serum lactate, acid&ndash
Post-infectious myocardial Infarction: Does percutaneous coronary intervention improve outcomes? A propensity-score matched analysis
2020
Acute infection is a frequent trigger of myocardial infarction (MI). However, whether percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) improves post-infectious MI prognosis is a major but unsolved issue. In this prospective multicenter study from coronary care units, we performed propensity score-matched analysis to compare outcomes in patients with and without PCI for post-infectious MI with angiography-proven significant coronary stenosis (>
Maternal risk factors of urinary incontinence during pregnancy and postpartum: A prospective cohort study
2021
Highlights • Urinary incontinence after delivery affects every fifth woman. • Urinary incontinence before pregnancy is a risk factor of postpartum incontinence. • Primiparous women are at a greater risk of urinary incontinence after birth.

Pre-Operative Modeling of Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement in a Surgical Heart Valve Bioprosthesis
2020
Obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) is a common complication of transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR). This procedure can determine an elongation of an LVOT (namely, the neo-LVOT), ultimately portending hemodynamic impairment and patient death. This study aimed to understand the biomechanical implications of LVOT obstruction in a patient who underwent TMVR using a transcatheter heart valve (THV) to repair a failed bioprosthetic heart valve. We first reconstructed the heart anatomy and the bioprosthetic heart valve to virtually implant a computer-aided-design (CAD) model of THV and evaluate the neo-LVOT area. A numerical simulation of THV deployment was then deve…

Commentary: Preliminary Evidence for Training-Induced Changes of Morphology and Phantom Limb Pain
2019
The aim of this study was to investigate whether a special prosthetic training in phantom limb pain patients aimed at increasing the functional use of the prosthesis leads to neural morphological plasticity of brain structures and a reduction in phantom limb pain. For chronic pain disorders, it was shown that morphological alterations due to pain might become at least partially reversed by pain therapies. Phantom limb pain is a chronic pain disorder that is frequently followed by neural plasticity of anatomical brain structures. In our study, 10 patients with amputation of the upper limb participated in a two-week training with a myoelectric prosthesis with somatosensory feedback. Grip stre…
