Organization of the major and minor capsid proteins in human papillomavirus type 33 virus-like particles.

1995

The organization of the major (L1) and minor (L2) proteins in the human papillomavirus capsid is still largely unknown. In this study we analysed the disulphide bonding between L1 proteins and the association of L2 proteins with capsomers using virus-like particles obtained in insect cells by co-expression of the L1 and L2 genes of human papillomavirus type 33. About 50% of the L1 protein molecules in these particles (1.29 g/cm3) formed disulphide-bonded trimers. Reduction of the intermolecular disulphide bonds by dithiothreitol (DTT) treatment caused disassembly of virus-like particles into capsomers. This indicates that disulphide bonds between capsomers at the threefold symmetry position…

Robust control in uncertain multi-inventory systems and consensus problems

2008

Abstract We consider a continuous time linear multi–inventory system with unknown demands bounded within ellipsoids and controls bounded within polytopes. We address the problem of ∈-stabilizing the inventory since this implies some reduction of the inventory costs. The main results are certain conditions under which ∈-stabilizability is possible through a saturated linear state feedback control. The idea of this approach is similar to the consensus problem solution for a network of continuous time dynamic agents, where each agent evolves according to a first order dynamics has bounded control and it is subject to unknown but bounded disturbances. In this context, we derive conditions under…

Langerinneg conventional dendritic cells produce IL-23 to drive psoriatic plaque formation in mice.

2013

Psoriasis is an autoinflammatory skin disease of unknown etiology. Topical application of Aldara cream containing the Toll-like receptor (TLR)7 agonist Imiquimod (IMQ) onto patients induces flares of psoriasis. Likewise, in mice IMQ triggers pathological changes closely resembling psoriatic plaque formation. Key cytokines like IL-23 and type-I IFN (IFN-I), both being produced mainly by dendritic cells (DCs), have been implicated in psoriasis. Although plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs) are the main source of IFNα and thought to initiate disease, conventional DCs (cDCs) appear to maintain the psoriatic lesions. Any role of cDCs during lesion formation remains elusive. Here, we report that selective ac…

Pulmonary surfactant protein C containing lipid films at the air-water interface as a model for the surface of lung alveoli.

1995

The pulmonary surfactant lines as a complex monolayer of lipids and proteins the alveolar epithelial surface. The monolayer dynamically adapts the surface tension of this interface to the varying surface areas during inhalation and exhalation. Its presence in the alveoli is thus a prerequisite for a proper lung function. The lipid moiety represents about 90% of the surfactant and contains mainly dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and phosphatidylglycerol (PG). The surfactant proteins involved in the surface tension adaption are called SP-A, SP-B and SP-C. The aim of the present investigation is to analyse the properties of monolayer films made from pure SP-C and from mixtures of DPPC, DP…

1983. Las elecciones locales en la Comunidad Valenciana. 8 de mayo de 1983. Mayoría socialista

2014

Visceral adiposity in patients with psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis alone and its relationship with metabolic and cardiovascular risk

2020

Abstract Background Fat mass distribution, especially in the abdominal visceral region, has been rarely evaluated in patients with PsA or psoriasis (PsO). Methods Patients with PsA and patients with PsO alone were evaluated and compared with control subjects (1:1 ratio in each patient group) matched for age, sex and BMI category. Body composition and fat distribution (android and visceral fat) were evaluated by DXA. Anthropometric measurements, disease activity and the systematic coronary risk evaluation (SCORE) cardiovascular risk were assessed. Metabolic parameters (insulin, homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance), serum adipokines [total and high-molecular-weight adiponectin…

Alpha-1-antitrypsin-induced inhibition of complement-dependent phagocytosis.

1981

Abstract In a previous investigation, inhibition of complement-dependent rosette formation by alpha1-antitrypsin (α1-AT) was observed, and it was demonstrated that α1-AT interacts through its carbohydrate portion with C3 and its fragments. In the present study, the effect of α1-AT on the complement-receptor-mediated phagocytosis by human peripheral blood monocytes was examined. Purified α1-AT inhibited in a dose-dependent manner phagocytosis of C3-carrying yeast particles. Inhibition was selective, concerned only C3-receptor-mediated phagocytosis, neither Fc-receptor-mediated phagocytosis nor uptake of untreated yeast particles was blocked by α1-AT. It was demonstrated that α1-AT exerted it…

Essential role of surface-bound chemoattractant in leukocyte migration

1977

MANY chemotactic factors, usually proteins or peptides, have been isolated and studied, but little is known about the basic mechanism of leukocyte migration. This movement is termed chemotaxis if its direction is determined by substances in the cells' environment1. The chemotactic agent is assumed to convey information to the leukocytes by interaction with receptors. The subsequent sequence of events thus triggered in the cells is unknown but metabolic changes such as activation of an esterase have been reported as occurring as the cells move forward (for review see ref. 2). A role for surface-bound chemoattractant in cell locomotion was suggested by the observation that mouse fibroblasts m…

Survival time and differences between dementia with Lewy bodies and Alzheimer’s disease following diagnosis: a meta-analysis of longitudinal studies.

2019

Objective: To synthesize the evidence across longitudinal studies comparing survival in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies comparing survival in clinically diagnosed DLB to AD. Longitudinal cohort studies were identified through a systematic search of major electronic databases from inception to May 2018. A random effects meta-analysis was performed to calculate survival time and relative risk of death. Results: Overall, 11 studies were identified including 22,952 patients with dementia: 2029 with DLB (mean diagnosis age 76.3; 47% female) compared with 20,923 with AD (mean diagnosis age 77.2; 6…

New functional ligands for ficolin-3 among lipopolysaccharides of Hafnia alvei.

2011

Ficolin-1 (M), ficolin-2 (L), ficolin-3 (H) and mannan-binding lectin (MBL) activate the complement system and have opsonic activity. The specificity of ficolin-3 is poorly characterized and currently limited to a few ligands only. We present new specific targets for human ficolin-3, identified among lipopolysaccharides (LPSs, endotoxin) of Hafnia alvei. The interaction was restricted to LPSs of four strains: 23, Polish Collection of Microorganisms (PCM) 1200, PCM 1203 and PCM 1205 and limited to their O-specific polysaccharides (O-specific PSs) composed of different numbers of oligosaccharide (OS) repeating units (RUs). Moreover, these LPS/ficolin-3 complexes activated the lectin pathway o…
