Optical sensing responses of CrIIICl(TPP)(H2O)-based coatings obtained by an atmospheric pressure plasma method – Application to the detection of vol…

2014

Food spoilage processes are a considerable concern for both the food industry and the consumer, due to financial, food quality and food safety aspects. A primary issue is the prevention/monitoring of the formation of biogenic and volatile amines, such as occurring in fish and in other microbiologically unstable food items rich in proteins, produced by e.g. oxidative decarboxylation of amino acids. One strategy for their monitoring is the development of films with colorimetric sensing properties that are able to indicate food spoilage. The aim of this investigation was the development of a novel metalloporphyrin-based coating allowing the sensitive detection of typical volatile amines, such …

Physicochemical properties of Ru(bpy)32+ entrapped in silicate bulks and fiber thin films prepared by the sol–gel method

1999

Silicate porous xerogels doped with ruthenium bipyridine (Ru(bpy)32+) complex have been obtained in the bulk form and in thin films on optical fibers. The hypsochromic shifts in the absorption and emission maxima are accompanied by fourfold increase in the lifetimes of the entrapped complex. The temperature-dependent lifetimes reveal that silicate xerogels induce two competing thermally activated processes in the excited state decay of the immobilized complex. The excited state lifetimes of the doped bulk xerogels and the fibers coated with thin films containing Ru(bpy)32+ are virtually identical to those obtained for the fibers coated with additional gas-impermeable layers.

A new gas sensor electronic interface with generalized impedance converter

2008

A new gas sensor conditioning circuit that allows a direct resistance-to-frequency conversion, as well as the procedure for the design, is presented. The generalized impedance converter (GIC) proposed is configured as a variable capacitor connected with the capacitor timing terminal of an astable multivibrator implemented by a PSoC (programmable system on chip) microcontroller device. The GIC effective input impedance, which is controlled by the gas sensor resistance, controls the astable output frequency. Good correlation of the experimental output frequency, which depends on the gas concentration, is achieved. The circuit is a simple gas sensor digital interface with frequency output.

TLMCO-simulation for an open source MPSOC platform under STARSoC environment

2008

In the last decade, the embedded systems become more and more complex. This complexity is due to the fact that these systems contain more heterogeneous hardware and software components (CPUpsilas, DSP, IP, etc.). Such systems called multiprocessor-on-chip (MPSoC) require new design approaches in order to satisfy several constraints, verification time, cost and time to market.

Opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome attributable to West Nile encephalitis: a case report

2014

Introduction Opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome is a very rare neurological disorder associated with some viral infections and exceptionally with the West Nile virus. Case presentation A 57-year-old Caucasian woman presented with fever, dizziness, balance difficulties, vomiting, dancing eye, altered speech, tremor, generalized myoclonus and failure to rise or stand. Our objective is to describe a patient with West Nile infection, which was identified both in her serum and cerebrospinal fluid and was associated with encephalitis and opsoclonus-myoclonus-ataxia syndrome. Conclusions Opsoclonus-myoclonus-ataxia syndrome continued for 4 weeks after onset, when she died. There was no evidence for any…

Ocular Motor Paroxysmal Events in Neonates and Infants: A Review of the Literature

2021

Abstract Background Ocular paroxysmal events can accompany a variety of neurological disorders. Particularly in infants, ocular paroxysmal events often represent a diagnostic challenge. Distinguishing between epileptic and nonepileptic events or between physiological and pathologic paroxysmal events can be challenging at this age because the clinical evaluation and physical examination are often limited. Continuous polygraphic video-electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring can be helpful in these situations. Methods We review ocular paroxysmal events in newborns and infants. The aim is to improve clinical recognition of ocular paroxysmal events and provide a guide to further management. Usin…

Rapid prototyping platform for stream-oriented reconfigurable computing applications

2010

In this paper we present a methodology and tool for rapid prototyping of real time image processing applications. We describe our design flow of multiprocessor system on chip (MPSoC) architectures based on hardware/software components. This methodology provides automated methods to specify, generate the hardware, software, and the architectural interfaces between them. Our methodology starts from system level specification of the application with parallel processes described in C-code. The processes communicate through an abstract channel called streams. We describe also the solution that we proposed to synthesize a custom bus architecture for the reconfigurable computing applications, whic…

Latent tubercolosis infection in patients with cronic plaque psoriasis: evidence from the Italian Psocare Registry

2015

SummaryBackground The nationwide prevalence of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in Italian patients with psoriasis has never been investigated. Objectives To estimate the nationwide prevalence of LTBI in Italian patients with psoriasis who are candidates for systemic treatment. Methods Data were obtained from the Psocare Registry on those patients (n = 4946) with age > 18 years, systemic treatment at entry specified and tuberculin skin test (TST) performed according to the Mantoux method. LTBI diagnosis was based on a positive TST result in the absence of any clinical, radiological or microbiological evidence of active tuberculosis. Results Latent tuberculosis infection was diagnosed in…
